I thought I'd start a thread about the monitoring headphones. I need ones that I can plug into my Zoom H1. Which ones are good value for the money? I would love to buy SONY MDR-7506, but those cost £105 (the real ones, not Chinese counterfeit). So which headphones would you recommend for sound monitoring for no-budget kind of film-making?

Must be cheap, but relatively good quality, like those cheap Chinese mics.

Any advice?

Headphone Calibration. What about it? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17475/headphone-calibration.-what-about-it Mon, 07 Aug 2017 07:46:29 +0000 RoadsidePicnic 17475@/talks/discussions Is there any real benefit of using a calibration profile in a decent headphone (let's say, Superlux Hd681 or better)?

Second, if there's actual benefit in it, when it becomes practical to spend US$ 120,00 on a calibration plugin?

Found that Sonarworks Reference 3 Headphone software and people reviewing it in the internet got me curious.

Here is a quote from their website:
"Hi-end studio sound from your headphones. Headphone calibration is the process of measuring and adjusting the frequency response of headphones in order to precisely match flat and neutral sounding studio monitors in a well treated studio. Standard studio headphones are transformed into perfectly-engineered precision devices. By giving yourself the gift of accurate sound, you can mix and master with total confidence."
https://www.sonarworks.com/headphones/

And here is a quote of a review by Matthew Weiss:
"So is this product just a fancy EQ? Well, yes and no. Essentially, it is just an EQ. However, the curves it’s recreating are not curves that you could simply dial in by ear or with simple measurement of white noise. Sonarworks notes that there is “resolution up to 16000 correction points” which is way more than any market EQ can give you."

Takstar Pro 80, now ISK HF2011 Headphones http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3982/takstar-pro-80-now-isk-hf2011-headphones Fri, 20 Jul 2012 00:42:48 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 3982@/talks/discussions Got myself three different headphones.

All three are considered best amoungs Chinese designed and manufactured headphones :-)

image

As for manufacturing quality, it is clear that thay can compete with best and pricey phones.

Sound is also very good, and different amongst all three. This is usual thing for heaphones. :-)

But my favourite is still Panasonic HTF890.

I'll write more about this phones later.

Not pricey, available at ali:

ISK HF2010 headphones

Really good looking headphones, and made to the same high standards as Pro 80.

As for comfort, they are very similar due to similar design. Ear pads are more comfortable on 2050.

Same thing must be said about large head. Be very careful, as these can be uncomfortable if you have one.

This ones have most pronounced sibilance. They are quite bright with punchy bass. Less monitor like, compared to Pro 80.

But sound is very good.

Very interesting headphones from Takstar, quite cheap (<$60 shipped, usually).

Mostly at Aliexpress - http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=Takstar+TS-671&catId=0&manual=y

They are really big and very comfortable. Thick soft ear pads. One of the most comfortable headphones I had.

TS-671 are good example of really open headphones. They sound really airy.

From all Takstar headphones these are most involving. They kind of make most music fun to listen.

Of course, they have minuses, main being bass. I really suggest to use equalizer with them with some bass boost on your preference. They have bass, and quite deep one, but it is really recessed.

Main plus - they present music as spacious and involving (I said it again :-) ). More spacious than AKG K702 known for their sound stage.

Of course, they lack some detailing of top headphones, but I really like them.

SuperLux Headphones http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/235/superlux-headphones Wed, 15 Jun 2011 20:27:41 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 235@/talks/discussions Model name - Avelvox HD242 (this is Russian brand), widely known as Superlux HD668b.
I'll tell about second phones later.
But this are quite good.
Cheap, quite comfortable (but I wish they had been larger), with good full sound.
Really low price - usually below $60, you can find sometimes for as low as $30.
My only complain is that they lack clarity common for open designs (they are semiopen with much higher isolation).
Primer of review - http://www.headfonia.com/superlux-hd668b/ (you can find plenty of others)

Other models are also not bad.
You can look at slightly cheaper Superlux HD681 also.
