I'm making a video with the objective to present some regional and macro-economic data info. I'm collecting references of video graphical representation of data, charts, etc. Looking for some input from you people here about what can be a good way or some place were you have seen it done good in any way.

P.S. I'm really focusing on the graphical representation thing alone, apart from the narrative or the facts illustration in broadcast news thing, but discussion of it would also be welcome.

Lenovo Y510p for 4K editing

I am a film maker and am planning to go for the Panasonic GH4 camera.

On my current setup, i tried to run some original footages from the GH4 camera and its not very smooth on the Adobe Premier Pro editing software Playback while editing (Tried setting it at FULL, 1/4, 1/8 but its laggy).

Do i need an additional 755M Graphics card (or any other cheaper, better third party alternative for it)? Or just a further upgrade of 8GB internal Memory ram would be good enough with the preexisting 2gb 755M in my Laptop for the purpose mentioned? If yes, whats the best Memory upgrade for my laptop (Third party model name of the RAM, cost etc.).

2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card (epic) failure

Wondering if anybody here has been through the 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card failure which is becoming more and more common and yet Apple inc are ignoring the issue. I was finishing a multicam project in Premiere CS6 and Premiere kept giving me errors and shutting down. Eventually the mac froze while in full screen preview in premier and I had to do a hard reset. after this the "saga" has begun...I could not even log in to the os. After checking HD, Putting back original ram,etc,etc...Everything else is fine but found out that is the Radeon that is the issue(not that card is bad but its the apple design that is plain wrong or quality control has been sedated before they release this model in a rush). After manually removing the radeon kexts I am back on line using just the motherboard intel HD3000 512mb. This emergency recovery effort came with a price of severe blue tint and lower resolution altogether plus the screen is at full intensity and it is not possible to adjust any of this, at least in the usual GUI way. Slowness is also an somehow issue(not severe as others report after the kexts fix)since I have 16gb of ram and strangely enough I can finish my project in premier without hiccups now!?! Since the computer runs on the default Intel HD 3000 video card why do I still have issues video/monitor. 512mb should be plenty to run things at a decent level meaning normal color profile etc. Not like before but c'mon the bare minimum should be covered! Any solutions/suggestions/ideas(like custom kexts,command lines,etc.) to resolve the issue will be greatly appreciated!

anyone recomend me a way to improve my macbook pro for editing

hi, was wondering if anyone could recommend me some equipment and computer parts (external graphics cards etc) in order to speed up my current editing system. im afraid im a student so spending loads on equipment is a no go, (do not tell me i need a new £5000 desktop etc as this is not practical for me) i want to add bits bit by bit as i can afford them to improve my system gradually .

i currently own a macbook pro 15" 2011 edition with: 2.2ghz i7 , 4gb 1333 ddr3 ram , AMD radeon 6750m 512mb graphics card, 500GB TOSHIBA MK5065GSXF sata hard drive.

how can i speed this system up? i am looking at getting 16gb of ram (which this series of macbook pro accepts) and a solid state hard drive of some sort with fast read write speeds i presume?

is there anything i can do on the graphics card front to speed up programs like premier , speed grade, after effects and davinci resolve lite? (i know i cant change mine as its solderd in but can i plug an external one into my system?

also my max resolution on this screen is 1440x900 - not large enough for davinci can someone tell me if there is a way to get an external moniter running from my macbook with high enough resolution to work on davinci? how do i do this?

im running lion 10.7.5 by the way.

ps sorry vitally i know this thread is a bit of a mess , but i simply do not understand computers enough to be able to find the information i need.

Check out this article. If this really does happen it seems to me that the implications for digital video would be huge.

The new codec (a program that encodes or decodes a digital video stream) is reportedly capable of filling in the boundaries between the elements in vector images. No details have been released regarding how the process works. The result, however, is moving vector-based video that is said to be equal in quality to bitmap video.

“This is a significant breakthrough which will revolutionize the way visual media is produced,” said Prof. Phil Willis, of the university’s Department of Computer Science.

The codec was developed in partnership with tech firms Root6 Technology, Smoke & Mirrors and Ovation Data Services. Commercial partners are now being sought to develop the technology further.

Cheap 2nd graphics card with 2xDual Link Dvi suggestions?

So, I have a gigabyte 660 ti 2gb ram card that is currently doing double duty as both GUI for two dual link dvi monitors and as the processing CUDA card for premiere (and resolve). I hope to free up the 660ti just for processing and run my GUIs out of a cheap second card that can handle two 27" monitors. (I could also, maybe, live with one dual-link dvi and one vga, although this isn't optimal--I see some people recommend the gt120).

Does anyone have suggestions for a 2nd card like this? I imagine that others are going to be in a similar situation to me so hopefully this question helps others. Thanks!
