My review:

From hardware standpoint long time ago it was good cheap LCD screen for movie makers.

Processor : MST719DU-LF LCD : CLAA102NA0ACW (1024x600 resolution, LED backlight) Battery : 7.4V 2300mAh

Two speakers and headphone output (with good metal socket) to check sound. I don't go to tuner, USB input, SD card player, etc as it is not very important here. To be short, you can check your JPEG files just by inserting SDHC card. But you better not to.

Image quality:

Average for portable devices. I like the colors (only for specific LCD panel used, later ones seems to be worse). Unit has ability to set color temperature (four presets, not VGA it is adjustable very precise) and many other parameters for HDMI input. Menu can be set to be almost transparent and position can be adjusted.

From software standpoint it is not all good. First. HDMI connection must be slightly improved by manufacturer. I suggest to set HDMI format to 720p60 in GH1 menus (as this works fine most of the time). Sometimes GH1 go to 2-10s cycle trying to establish HDMI connection (turn modes wheel to go out of this and try again) on 1080i or auto modes. Same happens with my HD cameras. After all screen flashes it starts to work fine. Second and most important. Unit has small overscan. So, framing is slightly off and also sharpness is not perfect (but ok for focusing). Using VGA it don't have any overscan, so it is firmware related HDMI only thing.

My unit is mounted on telescoping arm.

I really suggest to check much better monitors at

If you are bored with price hike and shipping delays with other follow focus model, it can be very good deal.

I am looking for a proper, but affordable multi gear including rails and follow focus, ideally with shoulder mount for the GH2. It should work with various lenses, steel or gum focus ring. I'd also like to use a view finder. It should also easily be mounted on a tripod or used hand holded.

Is there a system you would recommand? Whats your experience.

I looking forward to your reply!

Uncompressed recorder for cheap? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5/uncompressed-recorder-for-cheap Tue, 12 Apr 2011 00:59:04 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 5@/talks/discussions Thing will be called HyperDeck Shuttle.

With $345 announced price.

BlackMagic recorder

Something tells me that selling old facioned cameras like AF100 for 200% profit will be tougher and tougher.

Bad thing is that BlackMagic is famous for paper announcments, like their H.264 recorder that had been postponed for almost a year.

Good thing is that making uncompressed recorder is not so complicated as proper H.264 encoder, contrary to common beliefs spreaded by camera manufacturers.

Modular cameras are real future.

Which tripod to get for my needs? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/812/which-tripod-to-get-for-my-needs Tue, 30 Aug 2011 13:19:53 +0000 Gabel 812@/talks/discussions I'm somebody who shoots mostly tripod-mounted and a good tripod is very important for me.

The rig I'm using is a GH2, with old Nikon AI-primes, a TrusMT follow focus and matte-box and a SmallHD DP4, all mounted to a Gini Rig with just the rods (I remove the shoulder pad and handles when on sticks I should add).
This is my base rig. I need a tripod that is good and will handle this. However, I want some future proofing too. Right now, I rarely shoot with a barebones kit and if I do, it's never any jobs, so my demands for this is smaller.
But as I'm shelling out a bit on it, I don't want something that I'll have to get rid of once I upgrade my camera. It won't need to handle a RED or an Alexa, but I'd like something that at the most could take an F3 with Compact Primes, using the same setup for the rig.

I'm also adding a Kessler Crane KC8 crane. So I will be mounting the head on top it.
I live in Sweden and will order from the UK or Germany (if you find any of these cheaper, let me know!)

My alternatives:
E-Image 7083
(£525)
http://www.proav.co.uk/E-image-EI-7083-AA-Video-Tripod-Kit/p26789.aspx
Pros: The cheapest of them all, 100mm, the legs can take a crane. Handles the most weight (13kg/26lbs), supposedly great quality for the price.
Cons: Still an "off-brand", so I'm not 100% about it, not much less than a Vinten, current rig might be too light!

Vinten Vision Blue
(£610)
http://www.proav.co.uk/Vinten-Vision-Blue-Tripod-System/p29084.aspx
Pros: A real Vinten that is supposed to deliver anything one could expect from that. Pretty cheap too!
Cons: Smallest weight range at 2kgs to 5kgs (4lbs to 10lbs) and don't know if it could handle a larger camera and screws to adjust the tripod!

And then there's Sachtler. They have some kits over at Creativevideo with the ENG 75/2 D legs, which I saw and they didn't impress me. I need some legs that are a bit sturdier. So I thought, why do I need their legs? I could get a nice head and then pick up a decent set of legs (E-Image or Libec) over at ProAV anyway (suggestions here are welcome)!

Sachtler CineDSLR
(£506 for the head)
http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/index.php?t=product/sachtler_cine_dslr_head
Pros: Designed for my needs, could balance up to 9.7 kgs (20lbs!), so it should work! Oh and it's a Sachtler.
Cons: Ehm... Legs might be worse? Still haven't seen it with a bigger camera.

Sachtler FSB6
(£589 for the head)
http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/index.php?t=product/sachtler_0407
Pros: It's a Sachtler. Alternative to the CineDSLR.
Cons: Don't know if it's better or worse than the CineDSLR. The most expensive of the bunch.

Other suggestions are welcome!]]>

Fast and Ultra Fast Lenses Discussion http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/93/fast-and-ultra-fast-lenses-discussion Sun, 15 May 2011 07:54:06 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 93@/talks/discussions
So, I am making this topic and add small bits of my expirience

Note! Only F1.4 and faster lenses are discussed here. Exceptions being fastest lenses in their focal ranges (like ultrawide and telephoto).

My own expirience is not very big.
While I like my Samyang 85mm F1.4, I rarely use it wide open.
My tests with various F1.2 and F1.4 50mm lenses showed that I really do not need them and do not like their quality in open state.
Sigma 30mm F1.4 is also not for me. I'll try to test Samyang 35mm F1.4 soon and hope that it'll be more suitable.
I do not own Nokton 25mm F0.95 and do not have any intention to have it. Looking at reviews it is fine lens, but it have many similar things with AF100 - same heavy marketing trying to sold pricey lens to people who do not need it. I can only prise PR department of Cosina sending amazing amount of lenses to bloggers and leading shooters for review. Many companies need to learn from it.]]>
