Some very respectable names on the video talking about the lenses, especially Matthew Duclos, who helped with the optics design!

GH5 Focus via USB-C http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20047/gh5-focus-via-usb-c Thu, 12 Jul 2018 02:25:30 +0000 robinvalk 20047@/talks/discussions Hi,

i just wondered if it is possible to focus on the GH5 via USB-C? Either with a bought device or by building the controller by yourself. Since the Ronin S can do it i am quiet sure it should also be possible for others?

Thank you!

Electric FF under $1k? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18642/electric-ff-under-1k Wed, 03 Jan 2018 22:52:11 +0000 upwithmike 18642@/talks/discussions I'm looking for an electric FF that I can use with a thumbwheel on my gimbal and shoulder rig, wireless is great but wired is also fine. Would be nice if I had the option to add a wireless remote with wheel and hard stops at a later time.

There seem to be several on the horizon, like the Tilta Nucleus-M and Nucleus-N, Zhiyun's mechanical FF, and the Filmpower Nebula FF all sound great but when are any of them actually going to be available? I'm also looking at some of the Ikan and Redrock FF systems, but they're a little outside of my budget. Any others I should be aware of?

GH5 Focus Transition things to come http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16989/gh5-focus-transition-things-to-come Tue, 23 May 2017 05:34:09 +0000 alcomposer 16989@/talks/discussions With the addition of GH5 Focus transition, (a feature borrowed from the AG-DVX200) this has got me thinking:

  • Focus Transition really only works well for lenses that don't breath- or breath minimally.

  • Possibly Panasonic may realise that there is a market for Video Centric MFT lenses

  • Panasonic will have to come out with more Video Centric glass to really utilise this feature. Also ParFocal Zooms would be nice!

  • If Panasonic created a USB-C follow focus protocol (with accompanying hardware- or allowed other companies to make) it would make me much more interested in native Panasonic glass.

  • If Panasonic are 'not' interested in making more Video Centric MFT glass then why put this feature into the GH5 at all? I'm sure it was not simple to code this into the firmware of 'fly-by-wire' lenses.

Motorized zoom lenses http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16303/motorized-zoom-lenses Sun, 08 Jan 2017 12:55:34 +0000 Brian_Siano 16303@/talks/discussions Does anyone know of any lenses, or kits, that run the zoom through a controllable motor? There's a project where I'd really like to have a long, slow, and smooth zoom. And while I could use a follow-focus rig to run the zoom ring, it'd be a bit jerky. Are there kits that enable motor control of a focus- or zoo ring, with highly variable speeds, so I could make my zoom last as long as I want?

GH4 + cine mini-primes: good Matte Box and Follow Focus options? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11997/gh4-cine-mini-primes-good-matte-box-and-follow-focus-options Sat, 20 Dec 2014 11:50:14 +0000 lseerveld 11997@/talks/discussions I'm looking forward to receiving the new Veydra set when they ship. Up til now I've been using the Panasonic 12-35 and 35-100 zooms (with a variable ND when needed) on an Indisystem shoulder rig (with TV Logic 5.6" monitor when needed). I would like to have the option to add a Matte Box and single sided Follow Focus. Does anyone have suggestions for quality, light weight MB and FF that would work well with these primes and possibly also the zooms?

FS: Genus Bravo Follow Focus http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9826/fs-genus-bravo-follow-focus Mon, 10 Mar 2014 04:21:41 +0000 Illusionist_Films 9826@/talks/discussions Hi everybody,

I am selling my Genus Bravo Follow Focus. It has done a good job over the last years but has now been replaced by a newer version.

The dampening fluid of the FF was replaced recently and it turns buttery smooth now. The only drawback is that it has a backlash of about 20 degrees when changing focus direction. I assume this is caused by a problem inside the gear box that could probably been solved by someone with good fine mechanics knowledge. The Follow Focus is built like a tank and is in a very good condition aside from some marks and spots around the rod mount.

I'm based in Germany and I'm asking 200€ incl. shipping anywhere in EU or 250$ + shipping for anywhere else in the world. If you've questions please send PM.

Just writing to say I bought the Lanparte FF02 through the deal offered here and it is great. Arrived in a week and everything was just as advertised. It took a bit of time to get things set up with my rails and some small Nikon primes, but it was easy to flip the gear around so that it fit with my setup. Focusing is smooth and there is very little give in the setup. I highly recommend this product and give thanks to Vitaliy for saving me a big bucks from the price in other places.

Follow Focus and drift-- advice? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6626/follow-focus-and-drift-advice Sun, 07 Apr 2013 11:35:44 +0000 Brian_Siano 6626@/talks/discussions Last night I shot a theater performance with my GH2. But the event was lit for theater, not video, so it was very dim. So I borrowed a fast Lumix 20mm prime lens. This also meant a shallow DOF, so this was a chance to try using the Fotga follow-focus rig.

I ran into a problem. I marked the furthest and nearest focus points on the Fotga's white wheel. That way, I could focus based on the distance on the wheel marks. However, I tried racking the focus back and forth a bit, to get a feel for the thing... and the settings drifted. I'd rack the focus to the mark for the back of the stage... and it wasn't in focus. Same thing for the nearest point. I'd recalibrate, but the points would drift again.

Now, there's a bit of play with the Fotga follow-focus-- and I was using a small 12mm lever that added a little more play-- but I'm wondering if there's some issue with the lens or camera settings that may have contributed.

(One thing I did learn: as you rack focus during shooting, the GH2 displays a line on the screen, i.e., mountains versus flowers. I wound up making an estimate of focus based on the indicator on that point. Seems to me that I could apply cellophane tape to the screen, mark the points on that, and use the screen's focus indicator as my follow-focus marker.)
