Canon has unveiled the EOS C300 Mark II, a new 4K Digital Cinema Camera allowing filmmakers and broadcast producers to realise their creative vision in stunning cinematic detail.

Building on the unprecedented success of the acclaimed EOS C300, the more rugged EOS C300 Mark II features an advanced imaging engine with Dual DIGIC DV5 processors, new professional codecs and outstanding dynamic range, making it the most capable, flexible and accessible Cinema EOS video camera to date.

SUPREME 4K IMAGE QUALITY AND VERSATILITY

With the ability to record 10-bit 4:2:2 files internally at up to 410Mbps in 4K, or 10/12-bit 4:4:4 files in 2K/Full HD, with up to 15 stops of dynamic range, the EOS C300 Mark II provides footage suitable for extensive post-production work, producing crisper images across the full colour spectrum with reduced “colour bleed”. The camera offers professional filmmakers and broadcasters alike the very best image quality, recording 4K in both broadcast (3840 x 2160) and DCI cinematic (4096 x 2160) resolutions.

The EOS C300 Mark II can record high bitrate 4K files internally to dual CFast 2.0™* media, while simultaneously recording 4K RAW files to an external recorder, offering the flexibility and universal appeal for production at the highest quality available today. Additionally, the ability to record 2K/Full HD Proxy files to an internal SD card, at the same time, further streamlines the production workflow process.

The EOS C300 Mark II features an all-new Super35mm CMOS sensor, designed by Canon, with a stunning ISO range of up to ISO 102,400. The new Canon-designed Super 35mm CMOS sensor and an increased ISO range up to ISO 102,400 deliver exceptional low light performance, allowing operators to capture low-noise footage across a variety of challenging environments without compromising on image quality.

To meet the requirements of a diverse range of shooting applications and lighting situations, the EOS C300 Mark II offers both full manual control, ideal for cinematic environments, as well as a variety of automatic modes. These include enhanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF (now covering approximately 80% vertical x 80% horizontal of the image display), Auto White Balance and Face Detection AF, all of which make it easier than ever before for independent news gatherers and documentary filmmakers to shoot on the go without having to worry about settings.

INSTANT INTEGRATION INTO PROFESSIONAL WORKFLOWS

Canon’s new range of XF-AVC H.264 codecs, designed to be compatible with industry standard Non-Linear Edit systems, makes integrating both 4K and 2K/Full HD footage into workflows effortless, while maintaining the highest image quality. The range features XF-AVC intra for 4K, and XF-AVC Long GOP and Proxy options for 2K/Full HD recording, both of which utilise H.264 codec, offering post production flexibility and ease of use. Filmmakers can select the resolution and codec type that best suits their production, with the EOS C300 Mark II capable of shooting at up to 30P in 4K or up to 120P in 2K/Full HD.

The EOS C300 Mark II offers support for a wide range of colour space options, including BT.2020, the Canon Cinema Gamut and DCI-P3. The camera is also the first Cinema EOS model to feature brand new Canon Log2 technology, which enables the 15-stops of dynamic range, significantly wider than previous Cinema EOS cameras. The camera offers new versatility for sound recording too, supporting 4-channel audio recording in 16- or 24-bit and 48 kHz

DESIGNED FOR VERSATILITY

The EOS C300 Mark II boasts the iconic Cinema EOS design DNA – a modular body that can be adapted to suit the needs of each shooter and filming situation, through the extensive range of compatible accessories. Internally, the EOS C300 Mark II also includes built-in electronically controlled glass ND (neutral density) filters, which reduces the amount of light reaching the sensor by up to 10 stops in expansion mode. Compatibility with the RC-V100 remote control and optional Wi-Fi control also enables ease of use in a wider range of locations.

A new modular body allows users to connect the EOS C300 Mark II to a host of professional accessories.
The camera’s sensor read-out speed is now twice as fast as the original EOS C300, and further reduces rolling shutter distortion, allowing for crisp image capture in a moving environment, making it perfectly suited for capturing action sequences.

Leveraging Canon’s rich heritage in lens design, the EOS C300 Mark II is compatible with more than 90 current EF and EF Cinema lenses allowing operators to use their existing EF mount lenses. In addition, the EOS C300 Mark II comes equipped with Canon Cine servo zoom lens support, delivering one of the most comprehensive selections of lens possibilities for movie and broadcast production available in the market today. For further flexibility, shooters can opt to change the lens mount from the default EF Mount, to EF Mount with Cinema Lock, or to the industry standard PL mount, as a service option.**

Solution - Canon EOS R5 - CFExpress card formatting problem. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/25098/solution-canon-eos-r5-cfexpress-card-formatting-problem. Sat, 16 Jan 2021 10:06:01 +0000 andyharris 25098@/talks/discussions You may have seen that the EOS R5 is rather fussy about CFExpress cards. Well I can confirm this is the case.

The SanDisk Extreme PRO 512GB card is on the supported list, but my R5 refused to recognise it, even after formatting in MacOSX and Linux. I raised a support call - who suggested that I made a 'long format' on Mac OSX.

However, since Big Sur (and perhaps before), the longer option for Solid state devices have been removed.

So I used the following to write zeros at every position on the card:

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/disk3
dd: /dev/disk3: end of device
1000215217+0 records in
1000215216+0 records out
512110190592 bytes transferred in 20238.107872 secs (25304252 bytes/sec)

As you can see this took nearly six hours! It worked, the card is recognised by the camera and I can now use video with the R5.

If you need to use this yourself ... you need to be ABSOLUTELY sure that the /of=your_card_disk_device is correct - otherwise you run the risk of unrecoverable wiping of one of your disks.

You may need to unmount the disk first, I used:

sudo diskutil unmount /dev/disk3s1 <- this is the formatted partition on the disk.
- Volume R5EXFAT on disk3s1 unmounted

I have the Fotsay one which is a $20 Amazon one and I really hate how the EOS lens wiggles on the adapter. Can any recommend one that is nice and solid with no wiggle?

Second body to compliment GH2 - Eos M or else http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8262/second-body-to-compliment-gh2-eos-m-or-else Fri, 27 Sep 2013 21:41:24 +0000 cmountman 8262@/talks/discussions Hello

I have a GH2 with the following lenses:

Sigma 30mm F1.4 Sigma 18-50 F2.8 Panasonic 14mm and 20mm

I also have a Shneider 18-90 F2 lens which I am having made into a Four Thirds lens

I am looking for a cheap second body that will give me footage that will compliment the hacked GH2

I am unsure of which Panasonic Body with hack will best compliment the GH2

Also is the new G5 and G6 planned for hacks? If so they would be perfect choices?

I am also considering the Eos M with its f2 lens although I am concerned that the h.264 format is being replaced next year and if this will make this camera obsolete or if they will offer the new improved codec/format a firmware upgrade?

If anybody has any thoughts on this I would be grateful to know your opinions

GH3 is still too expensive

Thanks

Smoothest hack, intra, macroblocking... Noob questions ! http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7420/smoothest-hack-intra-macroblocking...-noob-questions- Wed, 03 Jul 2013 18:17:07 +0000 TruHype 7420@/talks/discussions Hello,

Attention, noob questions ahead !

I would like to know a few things : - Which is the smoothest hack on the GH2 ? (All the detail, no macro-blocking) - What does "Intra" or "AVC-Intraa" mean ? - What is Auto Quantitizer ? I'm not sure if a higher number means a better image (lower compression) or it's the inverse. What is better, AQ0 (all to motion), or AQ4 (all to details) ? - What does GOP stand for, and there is "Low-GOP", but then does that mean there's "high GOP" ? What are 12/15 GOP, 3 GOP and 6 GOP ? - What are P-frames, B-frames... ? - What is "Matrix" and "444 Matrix" ? - On some settings there's written "14-16 QP", or "QP16". What does QP mean ?

I've not seen much smooth looking GH2 videos on Youtube (unlike the canon videos), lots of them have a lot of macroblocking or whatever and causes the video not to be smooth, and sometimes there are some sort artifacts (I think it's because of the compression or something...). I'm a bit of a pixel-peeper :P Could someone explain me the causes of the un-smoothness, and why are some videos really clean compared to others ?

Example of smooth videos I've found :

(his videos are all smooth and clean)

PS : Can someone give me the link to download the 244mb/s hack ?

And here on EOSHD there's an article about Intra :

http://www.eoshd.com/content/4452/gh2-gets-avchd-intra-at-176mbit

But I still don't understand the difference between the 176mbit so-called "Intra" hack and any other one ! I'm confused...

Please answer !

Thank You.

Canon Inc. today announced that the company is developing a new-concept EOS-series digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. Incorporating an enhanced version of the video-capture capability offered in the current EOS-series lineup, the new camera will be ideally suited for cinematographic and other digital high-resolution production applications. The model will be equipped with a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor and, enabling the recording of 4K video* (at a frame rate of 24P, with Motion-JPEG compression), will make possible the type of exceptional image quality and sublime imaging expression to be expected from the next generation of "EOS Movies."

The announcement coincides with the launch of the Cinema EOS System, marking Canon's full-fledged entry into the digital high-resolution production industry. The new professional digital cinematography system spans the lens, digital cinema camera and digital SLR camera product categories.

Further details regarding the new EOS digital SLR camera currently under development, including the product name, specifications and scheduled launch date, have yet to be decided.

* Cropped to APS-H-equivalent size (dimensions measuring approximately 80% vertically and horizontally of a 35 mm full-frame sensor) when recording in 4K.
