4K UHD editing - GH4, G7 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14188/4k-uhd-editing-gh4-g7 Fri, 11 Dec 2015 17:14:42 +0000 apefos 14188@/talks/discussions Simple question: is it possible to edit the 4k UHD mp4 or mov files from gh4 and g7 using the native files without transcode and get a good playback performance in timeline? or the playback will be choppy? or transcode is a must have? Is adobe premiere the best solution for 4k uhd editing using native files? thanks.

FCP7 Editing 4K in smaller resolution and conforming it later. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12826/fcp7-editing-4k-in-smaller-resolution-and-conforming-it-later. Sun, 19 Apr 2015 00:19:41 +0000 tomasawyer 12826@/talks/discussions Hi everyone, I have a question regarding editing my 4K footage on my FCP7.

What I do now is I transcode the 4K footage (H264) to 4K (ProRes) and edit away on a 1080 sequence - if the delivery asks for 1080.

The problem is that once I render the sequence and decide to change some small things around or add/trim clips, I have to render again for every step that I change and overall it can be very time consuming.

Is there a way to for example transcode the 4K original footage to a 720p small files JUST FOR THE EDIT and then once the sequence is a lock, conform the clips in the sequence back to their original size (4K) and export the sequence in 1080 and 4k?

Thank you so much.

S☢☢C skoria series and quasi linear editing http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10791/sc-skoria-series-and-quasi-linear-editing Mon, 14 Jul 2014 09:02:52 +0000 maxr 10791@/talks/discussions Hey there PV comrades =)

Gonna try to cut long story short. Wanted to do something with video where I hadn’t have to spend big time in complex editing/grading platforms and also very important addressing all this footage it accumulates and grows like dust & mold over a cat’s head – :P – and I just love rests

Anyway I went back to my beloved quicktime and quasi linear editing. So just took a tiny bit of each clip and copy-pasted them in a blank movie window. Very fast, no regrets, no undos, plain straight forward. Then simply cut a matching length clip of music and added to sequence always in QT. Deleted 90% of footage. Much fun =)

01 – used solely panny 14-140mm f4-5.8
02 – used solely rokkor 50mm f1.4 MC // genustech eclipse variND
03 – used solely panny 20mm f1.7
05 – used solely panny 20mm f1.7 (some ETC mode) - rigorously chronological, almost in-camera edit.

Smart Sound Editing to Strip just the Voice-over from Mixed Audio? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5353/smart-sound-editing-to-strip-just-the-voice-over-from-mixed-audio Sun, 02 Dec 2012 03:53:01 +0000 goanna 5353@/talks/discussions This must have happened a dozen times: a client asks me to sub-title a documentary which has so much voice-over commentary I feel obliged to tell them they need to re-voice-over the commentary part [and sub-title only the interviews, pieces to camera, signage. etc]. This is standard process.

However, the client seldom manages to come up with the un-mixed multi track copy, yet gets the producer's permission to go ahead.

So-oo, I'm just wondering whether anybody has had any luck trying to erase the voice alone from mixed audio which might have a background of sync sound, maybe music and atmos,. [No, the budgets these clients propose do not extend to the painstaking re-creation of all audio tracks].

Since I'll be laying down another language voice-over, largely on top of where the original voice-over existed, I'm thinking maybe I could get away with reducing the original voice to a mere murmur and the new voice might cover up the old one.

Sound edit tutorial? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3399/sound-edit-tutorial Tue, 29 May 2012 06:04:40 +0000 tonalt 3399@/talks/discussions So I have now quality video, pro color correction, good microphone & recorder. But what about audio editing?

  1. What audio edit program you recommend for Windows? Is Pro Tools any good?
  2. Is there some basic rules that you should remember in audio editing? E.g. what the volume should be and how to measure that.
  3. Some tricks you should do? I heard about compressing and limiting but not quite sure what that means.
  4. Good tutorials (in video) online?
