GH4 V-LOG contrast/gamma shift on external recorder http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16338/gh4-v-log-contrastgamma-shift-on-external-recorder Tue, 17 Jan 2017 23:03:15 +0000 AlexMcV 16338@/talks/discussions Heya,

Not sure if anyone else has encountered this, I've done a quick search and come up with nothin...

I've been using the atomos assassin with my GH4, and noticed that the footage from the assassin is slightly more contrasty/darker than footage recorded internally. I assume it's something the GH4 is doing, because it only seems to happen with V-LOG, not with standard. (I couldn't really be bothered checking with all the other colour modes...)

Here's a clip of me A/B-ing it on a premiere timeline with the scopes up. V-LOG, then standard. https://www.dropbox.com/s/hiugamp6hfbved4/gh4-assassin-contrast-level.mp4?dl=0

(obviously I don't own a colour chart, a set of pencils was the bet I could manage...)

This was recorded 8-bit, as it was the only way I could record both at the same time, but it happens with 10-bit too. At 4K as well as HD. Both the assassin and GH4 are running the most up-to-date firmware, as of Jan 2017.

Did I mess with some settings somewhere? Is my camera haunted? Is this something other people have noticed?

It doesn't actually bother me that much, I guess this is just a "what's up with that?" kinda question. So yeah. What's up with that?

The best way to control highlights and shadows in post WITHOUT LOSING CONTRAST! http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11469/the-best-way-to-control-highlights-and-shadows-in-post-without-losing-contrast Thu, 02 Oct 2014 00:54:36 +0000 TATZU 11469@/talks/discussions Hi guys i thought i should share this with everyone because it has saved quite a few shots for me recently. As some of you may know with the recent releases of photoshop there is now support for video's! But what is best about this is camera raw can now be used on video's! (As far as i know this will ONLY work in the latest cc version of photoshop.)

Now for the instructions! 1. Import your video into photoshop 2. Right click your video in the layers section and change it to a smart object (Important) 3. Now go to the filters section in photoshop and add the camera raw filter to your video. 4. Adjust the highlights and shadows as you would like then click done. 5. Go to file>export>render video>adobe media encoder>quicktime uncompressed 6. Now wait for it to render (It will take A LONG TIME) but it will be worth it none of the plugins in any of the other video suites have this much capability when handling highlights and shadows) that's why it take so much longer to render. 7. Enjoy your results and have an excellent day i really felt i had to share this because i have been trying tons of plugins and they never worked well enough. Also i should add that you can finish your grade in davinci, premiere, after fx, final cut etc. Good Luck

Sony Vegas renders over-saturated and over-contrast video? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7965/sony-vegas-renders-over-saturated-and-over-contrast-video Sun, 01 Sep 2013 03:15:24 +0000 tonalt 7965@/talks/discussions Wanted to share this, may help others.

This problem haunted me for long time. I was rendering clips in After Effects and then re-imported them to Vegas. Everytime I rendered videos from Vegas, them were over-saturated and had too much contrast.

I blamed Windows Media Player, my displays calibration, you name it... Then I finally found this video:

I had to simply just add Levels-plugin in Vegas with setting "Computer RGB to Studio RGB".

And now finally, the rendered video looks what it's supposed to look!
