There will be no GH5. It will be called GH6 and it will have all the full sensor redout, and 10bit internal but only on 1080p they said.

Then the other new camera will be a new GH series of camera with super 35mm sensor the varicam one. It will be expensive, but will be video orientend machine. The price of both cameras where not dislosed.

I have and idea that GH6 will be arround $1500. And the varicam GH camera arround $4500 to $5000.

From my point of view, i think ill pay arround 5k for such compact camera with the varicam sensor. And about GH6 it sounds like a winner, bummer its not 4k 10 bit internal, but sounds like a progress.

I thought in this section there should be a discussion about the Apertus Project. ( http://www.apertus.org/ )

It sounds, at least for me, very promising and down to the ground and not too hipster like the digtial bloex, (which is, with all respect, beautyful).

However, what are your opinions on it? After all, there is a lot going in the 4k sector and raw cinema development.

FORBES70 65mm Motion Camera adapter prototype http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13586/forbes70-65mm-motion-camera-adapter-prototype Thu, 20 Aug 2015 23:48:52 +0000 muntus 13586@/talks/discussions From the same brain that brought us Dog Schidt Optiks, Richard Gale has designed the FORBES70, a working prototype 65mm digital camera. Here's a link to where he discuses the basic design and shows examples of focal lengths with various medium format lenses:

It's basically a box with a medium format mount on the front and some ground glass and a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera inside. This is a gross oversimplification of the design, but those are the broad strokes. It also has 6 stops of internal ND. Although the camera is not capturing as many pixels as some of the higher budget large sensor offerings, I find the larger format visually pleasing.

Another link to some colored footage:

Since it's being captured with Cinema DNG format, you should be able to get the image exactly how you want it.

Lumixstories.ca a website for Panasonic Storytellers http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13482/lumixstories.ca-a-website-for-panasonic-storytellers- Thu, 30 Jul 2015 10:01:43 +0000 tylerknight 13482@/talks/discussions It's been a while since I've had time to post anything on the forum, but I have been holding out for something big!

I was approached by Panasonic several months ago to speak at the Canadian G7 release in Toronto on my experience with Panasonic cameras and my move to 4K video.

Since that time, more opportunities have come to light and I couldn't be more excited to share this with everyone!

Panasonic Canada has created a new website called http://www.lumixstories.ca which highlights several videographers and photographers and I was lucky enough to be featured on the site for my work with the gh1 through gh4. Have a look through the site and check out some of my work as well as some of the other talented shooters!

On top of that, I will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia this long weekend to do an in-store hands-on test day at Henry's with the G7 and new GX8 as well as teaching a 1 hour workshop on my 4K video workflow in Adobe Premiere!

If anyone is from the east coast of Canada and is interested in participating in the workshop, or would like to show me around the beautiful city of Halifax, please message me on here! The link to the workshop is here:

https://www.facebook.com/events/1608468506085767/

There is a lot more in the works and I can't wait to share it with everyone!

Best gimbal for lightweight (mirrorless) cameras http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12643/best-gimbal-for-lightweight-mirrorless-cameras Thu, 19 Mar 2015 08:20:26 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 12643@/talks/discussions Between the current economic supports which would be the better choice?

I have seen videos where the Nebula 4000 its ok, another where are deficient. The Pilotfly H1 is in the same line of Nebula, preliminary tests are encouraging, but those videos are made by the manufacturer and dont know the conditions under which they were made, it is always see better user testing in the real world, but its very new. The third option is the Came Mini, but here the price is more expensive.

Best camera for a documentary project? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13008/best-camera-for-a-documentary-project- Tue, 19 May 2015 20:48:24 +0000 tomasawyer 13008@/talks/discussions Hello everyone.

I will potentially be shooting a 'documentary-style' like shoot for a client that wants his house to be documented over the period of one year. As of now it is still a building site and the house's outer structure is almost done. The client wants the show to be stylised in the style of 'Grand Designs'.

I currently have a Lumix GH4 with 14-35 F2.8 lens.

I also still have a Sony HDR-FX1E from past projects.

The client does not care about 4K option and would want the final product be in 1080 anyway.

Might be a silly question but what camera should I use from those two? I don't want to shoot 1080 on the GH4 and the 4K transcoding and editing in 1080 would be painful especially for a project this long (and the size of the footage and backups would be exponentially bigger)

There is also a budget for a possibility to buy a new camera just for this project - any recommendations?

Thanks!

"Dream" Filter? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12667/dream-filter Wed, 25 Mar 2015 11:24:28 +0000 Psyco 12667@/talks/discussions Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to get a "dreamy" look for some shoots of my project. I want the image to be a bit softer (not extremly soft) and all highlights should have some halo/glow effect. The best professional filters I have found are the Tiffen Pro Mist (not Black Pro Mist), but they are expensive (and hardly sold used on ebay).

  1. Does someone want to sell used Tiffen Pro Mist 1/2 or 1 filters (4x4 or 77/82mm)?

  2. How about the stocking + clear filter trick? Can anybody with experience chime in please.

As I know exactly what I want in every shot, there is no point in doing it in post, as digital effects are not on the same level as real in camera effects.

Lumix GH4 Big Noise Problem http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12612/lumix-gh4-big-noise-problem Sun, 15 Mar 2015 19:10:52 +0000 tomasawyer 12612@/talks/discussions Hi guys, I got my GH4 a month ago, and upon doing some video tests I am experiencing huge amount of noise in blacks and shadows. Even in bright daylight when i do some tests and i have something black in the video (dress, camera bag) even on ISO 400 it starts to get really big, ISO 800 almost unusable.

Anyone experiencing the same problem? Might be a faulty sensor from Panasonic? I am primarily shooting on Cine-D profile, no additional adjustments, but the problem is on Standard profile as well.

My iDynamic and iResolution is OFF.

I am really frustrated, I was expecting a better video that this noisy ants from GH4, anyone please help?

Dolly recommendations? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3257/dolly-recommendations Fri, 18 May 2012 12:05:33 +0000 sdbest 3257@/talks/discussions I'm in the market for a dolly system costing < $2,500 for a feature (see http://savingdinah.com). We're using a GH2 in a cage for most of the shots, but also a Sony EX1. There's a number of products available from Kessler Flex Track, Indie Dolly Systems, Merlin Video which fit the budget. A flex track system seems a good way to go.

So, looking for recommendations from folks who might have some experience with the products on the market.

Thanks.

Special software for stitching together bullet time photos? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12242/special-software-for-stitching-together-bullet-time-photos Sun, 25 Jan 2015 23:43:49 +0000 kraqman 12242@/talks/discussions Nikon had a 360 degree "bullet time" camera array at CES to create the resulting videos such as this

Are there any software on the market that can stitch the pictures from the camera array into the resulting "bullet time" video? Or they are all in-house software?

There is a painstaking way of doing this in NLEs. I was wondering if there are more time saving software out there.

Thanks in advance!

Video-Gear Insurance? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5674/video-gear-insurance Sun, 06 Jan 2013 00:12:02 +0000 vaitor 5674@/talks/discussions Hey, I dont know where to put this topic really but I thought someone might know. After a few years of video production and broadcast I am starting to rent out equipment but I am also traveling to more shooting locations that endanger my gear (extreme weather, sandy/humid, warzones and areas with a high crime rate). I never had major issues but I would like to get insurance for my gear. Does anyone know a good insurance company with good policies & good rates (international)? What is your experience? Is it worth it? What if expensive gear breaks in the middle of a production and you need a replacement?

thanks for the feedback! vaitor

GH4 2-axis digital level is wrong http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11860/gh4-2-axis-digital-level-is-wrong Thu, 27 Nov 2014 19:18:23 +0000 Steven 11860@/talks/discussions I got my new GH4 from B&H yesterday and the 2-axis digital level is incorrectly reporting the horizon level. If I set it on a table, it reports the horizon level as being somewhat off balance while the GH3's level is proper. I tried resetting everything and the problem, defect, or glitch still exists. I believe the firmware version is 1.1; if there's a newer one, I could try updating, but I have doubts it'll fix the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem? Any suggestions? It looks like I may have to send it back and exchange it for a replacement.

Radian: Motion Timelapse Device http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6819/radian-motion-timelapse-device Fri, 26 Apr 2013 16:31:59 +0000 andrevanberlo 6819@/talks/discussions I came across the Radian on google searching for an automatic panning device and stumbled upon their kickstarter. Their project is fully funded now and they are shipping the devices as we speak. Looks good, it says it is not meant for video panning, not meant for, but might work? Couldn't find anything about Radian on this site so figured someone might wanna have a closer look at this so i posted it...

http://radian.alpinelaboratories.com/pages/radian

This comes from their website

Radian is a remarkably powerful, yet wonderfully simple smartphone-controlled device that lets you take stunning panning and tilting time-lapses with your dSLR camera or smartphone (in conjunction with another time-lapse app). With our free iOS/Android/web app, simply upload the desired time-lapse settings to Radian, unplug, and let Radian do the rest.

From time-lapses of sweeping landscapes to stormy clouds to busy street corners, the possibilities are limitless. In fact, the usefulness of time-lapses, especially panning ones, go beyond just creative endeavors. Its uses extend from architectural/construction site surveying, to documentation of projects, to even anthropological studies in urban environments. With panning, you can now capture the entire scene around you.

Radian is small, rugged, weather-resistant, and can handle anything you throw at it. It can rotate side-to-side. It can tilt up and down (with optional L-bracket). It can dynamically speed up and slow down. And if you have a Canon dSLR, you can change exposure to capture sunrise and sunset. You name it. With our app, the sky is the limit.

*Note: Radian is not meant for video panning
