As everyone knows already, the hotshoe becomes loose on the GH3, the sad news is that the screws come completely off. This weekend on a trip to San Francisco my hot shoe became really loose I had 2 wireless transmitters on it, so this morning I decided to open my gh3, yes I know very stupid!!!!!!!! Do not do this!!!!! it's not easy to do this and parts can easy break. After opening the camera I discovered that taking out the viewfinder is not easy, one bolt is blocked by the board and taking out the board was a bit too much for me, so there is one particular bolt that stayed out, yes .... I did not put it back because it is too difficult to put it back in without pulling out the board, so back to the hot shoe, the hot shoe seems to be screwed by two bolts on each side, incredibly both bolts came off, and the sad news is that one is probably inside my camera moving around because I only found one :-( so what I did is that I used a bolt from the outside of the body and put back two bolts on the hot shoe, but another sad thing I discovered is that this part of the camera is really weak, I honestly cannot see that much metal around here so my advice to people is: Do not put anything too heavy on there. Another sad thing is that yes the bolts that hold the hotshoe do not have locktite so that is why they come off so easily, all these small screws are not tight too much because if tightened too much they give out. Honestly it's sad to see such expensive camera made so flimsy in the inside, I have 2 GH3 and I hope they last me a good time cause I paid premium for these cams. The first picture has a red circle around the area where both bolts came off.

When pulling out the back plate, I broke a part of the chasis, I think I was suppose to take out the dial and take a screw out from there, so be aware if you simply pull the back as I did, you will brake this part too. The camera is back together and working, I tested it and all seems to be ok even though I did break some parts :-(

So there you have it guys, these hot shoes will come loose eventually unless panny fixed the issued on a different batch, I bought mine in November of 2012.

Sony FE lens aperture control failure http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16300/sony-fe-lens-aperture-control-failure Sat, 07 Jan 2017 22:09:03 +0000 vstardust 16300@/talks/discussions Hi Guys,

I'm on my once in a lifetime around the world trip and my Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS broke down in middle of nowhere in Philippines.

The problem:

  • Camera body (Sony A7sII) does not recognize lens aperture and it cannot be controlled. When switching lens on and off and flicking camera power the camera might show the right aperture just for 0,5 seconds and then disappear into -.

  • Lens aperture sometimes randomly "hunts" between aperture fully open and closed until it always gets stuck in closed (~f36).

  • Focusing works very randomly. Focus mode cannot be changed due to "Lens not attached properly or not supported"

  • Still photos can be taken (not in focus) but no video cannot be recorded.

  • There is a strange ticking sound inside the lens when camera power is turned on and lens attached.

Tried fixes:

  • Contacts are cleaned and no physical damage can be seen on the lens. Other lenses Sony FE lenses work fine with the camera body.

Have you guys experienced similar problems with Sony FE lenses??

I'm truly getting desperate. :(

Panasonic GH1 SD Card Door http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15579/panasonic-gh1-sd-card-door Wed, 24 Aug 2016 08:44:32 +0000 adamxp12 15579@/talks/discussions OK so I have been a reader on this forum for quite a long time, even before I made an account, but this is my first post, I have a GH1 which I still think is an awesome camera for the work I do, I don't see the point in spending lots of money on a newer model if the GH1 does all I want + without the stupid EU 30 minute time limit thanks to the hack, I like to do timelapse's and so the no limit recording time is a feature that only a brand new GH4 can support but £1k is way too much for a 17y/o to spend on a camera

So that's where this comes in, the SD card door on my GH1 recently broke, not sure how but it has, it don't latch properly at the front of the camera making it protrude, I saw a post about this on personal-view where someone fixed it by gluing a needle to it, but with quite vague directions, the only other solution I can think of is either buying a used G1/GH1 just for a door, or to somehow figure out how to fix my door

Does anyone have an idea of how it can be fixed? pictures would really help here as I have no idea what a non broken door looks like, its not one of them things I really paid attention to before it broke

GH2 display cable repair http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15158/gh2-display-cable-repair Wed, 01 Jun 2016 15:53:49 +0000 mk47 15158@/talks/discussions Not sure where i should post this, but here goes:

The display on my GH2 is dying. The problem is most likely in the flat cable that goes through the rotating hinge. First the image wouldn't rotate when i flipped it all the way, now it just dies if i open the display too much.

Did anyone face similar problems? The camera was used quite a lot over the last 4 years, probably like 2-3 times a week for a few hours a day.

I was looking at the replacement parts, and the cable with the hinge costs around 60€ (ebay, ali) which i think is too much for a camera that is worth about 200-300€.

Is anyone aware of some other alternative? If someone owns a broken GH2 i would be willing to make a deal for that part, or the whole cam. :)

Thanks!

Looking to find a broken GH2 or shell http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14653/looking-to-find-a-broken-gh2-or-shell Thu, 25 Feb 2016 16:11:10 +0000 Timx98 14653@/talks/discussions Does anyone have a GH2 shell or a broken GH2 (as long it's broken internally and not cosmetic) that they wouldn't mind donating or selling at a cheap price? I want to turn it in to something for a friend as part of an art project I'm going to do.

I"d greatly appreciate if someone could part with one if its just laying around and you are looking for a reason to get rid of it.

thanks!!!

GH2 Smudge in EVF. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13338/gh2-smudge-in-evf.- Tue, 07 Jul 2015 07:31:38 +0000 Italianshox 13338@/talks/discussions I picked up my GH2 today, I have had it for about a week. When looking inside the EVF, I saw a brown smudge. It is quite small ( covers about 50 pixels). At first I thought it was just on the outside, so I cleaned the glass. but that did not fix anything. As you can see in the image, the smudge is located in bottom right.

There is also a weird parallax effect with the smudge. Ie if the angle of the eye is not perfectly perpendicular to the glass, 2 smudges appear, 1 infront of the other (that is why there appear to be 2 smudges in the photo) .

How do i get rid of this? Is it a common problem?

Thanks for all of your help.

Panasonic GH2 not recognizing SD card http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12875/panasonic-gh2-not-recognizing-sd-card Sun, 26 Apr 2015 14:52:11 +0000 ilia310101 12875@/talks/discussions So, I have a problem, and that is that my GH2 will not recognize that there is a card inside of it, no matter what I do. I have tried about 10 different sd cards, ranging from good to bad and small to big. Nothing works. I have even tried licking the card.

Can this possibly be fixed without disassembling the camera, or would it have to be taken apart to be fixed? and if it does have to be taken apart would I end up having to replace the whole main board?

I am incredibly sad about my GH2, so any advice would make me happy. Thanks;)

p.s I will probably only be able to reply tomorrow as it's almost late now.

Strange marks on video - Damaged Sensor? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6782/strange-marks-on-video-damaged-sensor- Tue, 23 Apr 2013 11:03:34 +0000 DaleCampbell 6782@/talks/discussions So a mark/blotch has appeared on my videos recently! I think it happened after a lens change and there was some dust/dirt on the sensor as well which was visible with a loupe. However the mark in question doesn't seem to be visible when looking at the sensor?! It is present when using different lenses/no lens even It moves in ex-tele mode (to a position which would seem to correlate with the sensor crop of that mode) If I shoot a scene which has an over exposed section it will disappear as I move the camera to place the mark onto the over exposed area- i.e. no present when over exposed

I have tried a blower to remove the dust and also swabbed the sensor with a cleaning kit which removed all the dust etc. but this mark remains!!!

So what does it look like to you and has anyone encountered something similar?

Thanks in advance all!

Collimating anamorphic lenses, m43 body request http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3070/collimating-anamorphic-lenses-m43-body-request Tue, 01 May 2012 15:20:05 +0000 shane 3070@/talks/discussions I am hoping to ship one to Olexandr of Olex Camera Services in Ukraine so that he has a body to use for more accurate anamorphic lens collimation for my GH2 -- and all anamorphic lenses to be used on GH2s in the future! I have been speaking to him and he doesn't need a working model, just something to help him calibrate more accurately.

Can I give some money to someone to ship their dead/damaged/non-functioning GH2 to him?

Check your SD Cards for PHYSICAL Damage http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2851/check-your-sd-cards-for-physical-damage Fri, 13 Apr 2012 05:58:34 +0000 CRFilms 2851@/talks/discussions Well...I usually GENTLY place the SD card into my GH1, but the FIRST time I jammed it in...something happened. It started feeling weird coming out, then the camera would start having shutdown fail errors with no card in the slot while it would stay on before. I checked the card and found a jagged sliver at the edge missing. Now it started jamming up with another good card. I managed to find the service manual online, but the screws were so tight on the back body I was afraid I would strip them. Finally I took a bread twist tie, stripped it to the wire and was able to fish out the plastic scraps jamming it up.

Be gentle folks...gentle.

Gh2 Broken LCD!!! Options? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2803/gh2-broken-lcd-options Sat, 07 Apr 2012 12:55:34 +0000 kupchenpo 2803@/talks/discussions While traveling in Asia last month my tripod was toppled over (stupid setup, my fault) with the lcd out and it shattered some of the plastic and crippled the touch screen capability. I basically used some gaffers tape to hold things together for the rest of my trip (displays fine). Now that I'm home, I decided to take things apart and see what was causing the touch features to not work. As you'll see in the picture, the fall pulled a cable receptor off of the board, I'm guessing that is what enables the touch function? I tried making the contact by pressing it in place, but it had no effect. When I took the lcd off the body of the camera, what remaining functioning plastic that holds things together (screw holes) crumbled making it not possible for me to reattach properly.

image

MY QUESTIONS FOR YOU ALL:

  1. Can this be fixed? How? Where to get the necessary parts/materials? Can anyone do it for me at a reasonable price?

  2. If it's a lost cause. Where can I find a replacement LCD? I've scoured the web and thus far come up completely empty. Even if I get a new LCD, I'd need the plastic housing too.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. For now I'm just using the EVF and an ext. monitor, but I miss the functionality of that LCD big time.

Thank you.

Any hint would be appreciated and then it's probably time to shut this thread down.

Thanks for all the awsome work, donation to follow.
