m43 to MD lens adapter problems? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11832/m43-to-md-lens-adapter-problems Sun, 23 Nov 2014 16:01:10 +0000 einstein7 11832@/talks/discussions Just wondering if anyone can give some insight as to why a Minolta md lens adapted to the RJ speedbooster for the bmpcc with a dumb adaptor ring doesn't work? The flange distance is correct because i have a md-m43 dumb adaptor and the total flange distance is the same. My md lenses work fine so after getting the RJ speedbooster .71x I then got a dumb md-eos adapter ring thinking it would work fine and nada.. lens is focusing past the sensor? They make a md-eos adaptor with glass but not sure why that would be necessary when md's work fine on m43 with no glass and no focal reducer.

FS: New Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera $850 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11560/fs-new-black-magic-pocket-cinema-camera-850 Wed, 15 Oct 2014 17:04:28 +0000 majoraxis 11560@/talks/discussions Brand new, unopened, Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera. I am selling this without a warranty as this was a replacement camera as my BMPCC had a bad sensor so they gave me a brand new one, but told me I have now only a 3 month warranty. As I believe the warranty is not transferrable, it is being sold as is.

Recently there were a number of cameras stolen from Black Magic - this is not one of them - this is a legit deal. I can show you my email exchange with Black Magic about the warranty swap out etc.

It comes with 2 batteries - one from the original and one that I assume is in the unopened box.

If you would like me to included a 25mm f 0.95 c-mount lens I will do both the camera and the lens for only $1100.

I have a number of additional c-mount 1" Super 16 mm lenses for sale that will work with this as well.

PM me if you are interested. I am in Sunnyvale CA.

Thanks!

Atomos Ninja Blade vs Ninja 2 vs other recorder/monitor? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11494/atomos-ninja-blade-vs-ninja-2-vs-other-recordermonitor Mon, 06 Oct 2014 00:09:59 +0000 IronFilm 11494@/talks/discussions I'm going to at last get a monitor, not just for the bigger display, but for the focus peaking and zebras (to name just a couple of reasons why).

Now the first question I need to resolve, is do I get just a monitor by itself (such as one of the SmallHD monitors) or get a combined monitor/recorder (such as from Atomos).

Currently my situation is I'm using a Nikon D5200 plus a BMPCC that has just arrived with future upgrading plans of maybe perhaps getting a Panasonic GH4 in a few months from now. (slim possibility it might be instead a Sony A7S, or even a Samsung NX1. Could even be something that hasn't be released yet! I'm in no rush, I'll wait and see) So whatever I'm picking should be suited for what I've got now (& in the near future).

Am thinking I've narrowed down my decision to Ninja Blade vs Ninja 2.

I'm leaning towards getting the Atomos Ninja Blade (it is worth it over the cheaper Ninja 2???), for a few reasons (let me know if they're good reasons or not! I'm just presuming here): a) I'm thinking using SSDs could be better than SD cards in the BMPCC (though not being able to record CinemaDNG raw to SSD is a pity) b) having the ability to tag good/bad takes on set with AtomosOS seems like it could be a big time saver when doing rush edits. c) no time recording limit with the Nikon D5200 (if I got just a monitor, I expect I'd then get a Blackmagic Design: HyperDeck Shuttle as well. Well, or maybe maybe wait a few months to see if NikonHacker removes the recording time limit on the D5200)

But on the flip side the Ninja 2 is significantly cheaper.... so I wonder, is the older Ninja 2's screen satisfactory for pulling focus or is the Blade's high resolution screen going to be a huge bonus here?

Probably the biggest point of confusion I have between the two is how the Ninja Blade and Ninja 2 run different version of Atomos OS (with the Blade having the newer version of course), as I can't seem to clearly find any info on what specifically is the benefits of that. (such as around workflow around tagging clips on set and then in post)

Thoughts/criticism/suggestions? I'm all ears!

Fear of Girls Web Series Episode 4 Kickstarter http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7649/fear-of-girls-web-series-episode-4-kickstarter Wed, 31 Jul 2013 22:22:37 +0000 Brian202020 7649@/talks/discussions So a good friend of mine Director Ryan Wood is doing a Kickstarter for the next episode in his popular web series Fear of Girls. If he gets the funding, which I'm sure he will since it isn't even 24 hours yet and he's 1/3 there, I will be shooting it on the BMCC MFT and BMPCC. Check it out especially if you're into the whole RPG thing. There are 3 episodes (I didn't shoot any of them, but was the first AC on the third one) and they are funny, witty, and entertaining. All three episodes are on the Kickstarter page. If you like what you see and want to see a forth episode, back his Kickstarter, you can donate as little as $1 if you want. Thanks.

Just got my BMPocket, need a lens for specific use http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11191/just-got-my-bmpocket-need-a-lens-for-specific-use Thu, 04 Sep 2014 07:40:37 +0000 rockroadpix 11191@/talks/discussions Ok, what I am looking for is a wide angle lens that has a low profile, preferably a wide zoom for when I go skiing. What is the best choice? 12-32, 14-42 or whatever? the power zooms? Inquiring minds. If it's fast, that's just gravy, but I don't really need 2.8 or the like.

As an aside, not so happy with the crop when using my Voigtlander 25, but that's another thread...

Custom WB with BMCC Speedbooster is a bad idea on GH4 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10905/custom-wb-with-bmcc-speedbooster-is-a-bad-idea-on-gh4 Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:50:51 +0000 0range 10905@/talks/discussions This little bastard...

I now own 3 cameras. The GH2, BMPCC and the GH4. For the Blackmagic I bought the BMCC Speedbooster, so I can use it on the BMPCC and the GH4, if I would buy it any time soon. And I did - today. Excited about the Speedbooster working with my Nikon Glass and getting away with no vignetting in UHD mode (crop factor 2,3 becomes 1,472 like APS-C), I just wanted to give the Custom White Balance a try, since I had to dial in the correct color temperature on the BMPCC, I wanted the luxury back, to have the right settings at the push of a button.

So I was just about to flex my finger and set Custom WB... when I remembered... my GH2 always using the mechanical Shutter, when taking the custom WB. Cause I want to use the GH4 a little longer, I dismounted the BMCC Speedbooster and took the Custom Whitebalance.

Long story is short: Even with activated Electronic Shutter, the GH4 still uses the mechanical Shutter for Custom White Balance and can be damaged with attached BMCC Speedbooster. Since the SB touches the inside of the Shutter Casing and even leaves a mark there due the pressure of the adapter, when it´s attached.

So better stay with the Blackmagic way of dialing in the color temperature or use your MFT Kit Lens - if you own one - to do the work.

By the way.... am I the only one who sets custom WB? Cause I didn´t read about this issue anywhere else. At least the BMCC Speedbooster Users don´t care much about it and stick with automatic WB ;-)

That´s it for today!

Cheers from Austria! Stefan

The Kowa anamorphic lens is a 58mm screw mount lens that needs a screw mount adapter kit which clamps on to your lens of choice. So far I have got the Helios 44-2 58mm, Focal MC F2.8 135mm, & a MIR-1B F2.8 37mm lens. These are all VERY reasonably priced on eBay. Works very well on the Blackmagic Pocket. With 800g, it's lightweight enough to be used on the camera without additional lens support. Optically, it's better than for example Canon's V6/V7 zooms.
