Lenses for Canon FD mount http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/106/lenses-for-canon-fd-mount Wed, 18 May 2011 11:47:09 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 106@/talks/discussions
Why Canon FD? You can find many great lenses for this mount.
And thanks to the fact that this mount is completely abandoned, they can be obtained for cheaper price, normally.

I'll start from the most frequently mentioned lens - Canon FD 40mm F1.4. It had many versions.
I really do not know all the differencies, but they are not very important as far as I am aware.

I need an answer. What is the best hack for the GH2? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15581/i-need-an-answer.-what-is-the-best-hack-for-the-gh2 Wed, 24 Aug 2016 14:55:37 +0000 airchase 15581@/talks/discussions I realize there are several threads in the same vain as this, but the conclusion in every single one of them is "try a bunch, use what you like".

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or ambition to try loads of different patches, and I would really love if someone could give a solid answer as to what the best patch is. The answer of "it's a matter of personal preference" is a cop-out, and in my opinion is incorrect. A better image, is a better image.

I've done a lot of research, and it appears Moon T8 is a popular option but I've also seen this video on Youtube using the Intravenus hack which looks absolutely stunning.

So, let's put an end to the ambiguity. What is the best hack for the GH2?

135mm fast old lenses http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/108/135mm-fast-old-lenses Thu, 19 May 2011 01:53:57 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 108@/talks/discussions
They are not very populat today, but on m43 they are quite good tele lenses.

My personal favourites:
1) Vivitar Series 1 135mm F2.3
2) Soligor 135mm F2.0
3) Nikon 135mm F2.0 AI
4) Canon FD 135mm F2.0

From all this lenses I had expirience with Vivitar only, and I really like this lense.

GH3 Best Video Settings http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7091/gh3-best-video-settings Tue, 28 May 2013 18:13:57 +0000 maddog15 7091@/talks/discussions Bought a GH3 just over a week ago. So far extremely happy with it on many levels. Have an interview job coming up so I did a multi cam test with my GH2 (Moon T5 loaded) and my new GH3 (Highest setting - MOV 1080p 24, @ 72Mb/s, All Intra). GH3 as camera A - front, GH2 as camera B - profile. When I synced the two vids in Premiere Pro for a multi cam edit... things were...different. Long and short of it.... the GH2 with Moon T5 kicked the GH3's butt hands down in low light.

In a nutshell the GH3 produced much more noise than I expected. And an overall lower quality image vs the GH2 under the same shooting conditions. (Both cameras shooting with the same f-stop, S-speed and ISO)

It was recommende3d by @robbin that I try the 50Mb/s IPB setting. I did so but still don't see much improvement or change in the noise with lower light. Was shooting at ISO 400 so I should be fairly safe right? Per many other professional shooters I have Sharpness at -5, Contrast -5, Saturation -2. Noise Reduction at 0 as -5 allows too much noise and +5 seems to muddy or soften the image as a whole to me.

Any feedback is welcome on best video settings for GH3

Vintage Lenses Recommendation (Contax Yashica, Canon FD, Minolta MD / Rokkor) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15280/vintage-lenses-recommendation-contax-yashica-canon-fd-minolta-md-rokkor Sat, 25 Jun 2016 11:52:51 +0000 VortekShow 15280@/talks/discussions Hello camera nerds,

I need your help. I want to build a lens set from affordable but superb vintage lenses for cinematography. These 3 brands would be adapted via an passive adapter onto my Samsung NX1.

Focal lengths I am generally interested in: 24 or 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm

I'll need some experts opinion on which brand to go for. I don't know wether to go for Contax Yashica, Canon FD or Minolta vintage lenses so hit me up with your knowledge and recommendation. It is much appreciated.

WorkHorse http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11079/workhorse Wed, 20 Aug 2014 05:27:17 +0000 apefos 11079@/talks/discussions WorkHorse patch for GH2 hack, the result of developing after my three previous threads here in the Top Settings (check last posts to download the final versions):

This is the best thing I loaded to my GH2. Stable, reliable and excelent image quality in all modes, works for cards with 24/30/36/45MBps constant write speed or above depending on the version loaded. Best option is to use 45MBps cards and above, which I used for the tests.

setg is the recomended version, safe and great quality. seth and seti are for lower speed cards, but does not have same quality of setg. setj has more aggressive settings for even better quality.

four versions: (use setg if you have proper card, it is safe and avoids all mosquito noise and texture mud in the high bitrate modes)

setg: for cards with constant write speed 36MBps and above, I frames compression = 3

seth: for cards with constant write speed 24MBps and above, I frames compression = 4

seti: for cards with constant write speed 30MBps and above, I frames compression = 3.5

setj: for cards with constant write speed 45MBps and above, I frames compression = 2.5

The base is FlowMotion 2.02 from LPowell because he did a great careful job to tweak the quantization, matrices and tables and get perfect image quality in all modes with quiet camera or camera movements.

The modifications are in datarate and gop to make it completely stable and reliable without stop recording in all modes. For best image quality use the 24H, SH, FSH and HBR. The 24L, H, FH does not have the same quality and are for save memory space and for you to try in lower speed cards if needed.

The bitrate is very well distributed among the I, B and P frames giving a fluid random texture and noise in all modes and isos, The gops and datarate are well balanced to each other with the benefits from the quantization, matrices and tables from FM202.

In the setg 24H, SH, FSH and HBR, the texture is beautiful, noise is homogene, no macroblocking, no mosquito noise, no texture mud. Great use of the 8 bit codec in dark areas, excelent high iso performance which cleans ok with neatvideo and with a small amount of film grain you cannot tell it was shoot in high iso. Optimal results for blu-ray output and big screen projection.

720p 60p upscaled to 1080p works great for slow motion, just use your skill to denoise, sharp and upscale it. Apply film grain to your taste. If you like the feel of the original noise, just keep it, or just remove a little bit of chroma noise keeping the luma noise, and no need film grain.

No stop recording in all tests with setg. tested with green grass under sun and shadow and also tested in all modes with the four Stray's colour death charts. Tests done with 6400 iso which is very difficult to the hack to handle and it worked ok. Tests also done in the end of card space (3 minutes left) and no stop recording also. Sandisk 32GB SDHC 45MBps was used.

The audio has Pasadena settings, from FM202.

Spanning was not tested with this patch. Also it needs transcoding with 5DtoRGB free software before editing to avoid the diagonal pattern (rain). It is clean after converted to Apple ProRes. I Converted to the LT version with great results and smaller fle sizes.

If somebody wants to test spanning I recomend to use the lower bitrate modes and tweak the TOP and BOTTOM datarate limits in the advanced settings for testers in PTool.

Enjoy!

There is a hack for GH2 or H3 for shooting video in Raw? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13623/there-is-a-hack-for-gh2-or-h3-for-shooting-video-in-raw Sat, 29 Aug 2015 10:46:06 +0000 jollyvideos 13623@/talks/discussions Hi, I ask this question because it is very difficult to understand on the web or not if there is a hack that can do video Raw (es. DNG) for Lumix GH2 and GH3

So I ask accurate information so as to take away any doubts.

There is a hack to shoot video in RAW or GH2 GH3? If you his name and where you can download?

I have seen on various web video of those who say they could do tests.

Also if you can be the best hacks for GH3. And the best hack with video quality and extremely stable for the GH2.

Thank you very much who will give me a hand.

And since (in theory) the GM1 have almost the same internals, maybe the settings could work for both - if we discover that it is not the case, a separate thread could be made.

Feel free to share the settings that you are using and the results - unfortunately I did not have enough time myself to make some research yet :)

Second body to compliment GH2 - Eos M or else http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8262/second-body-to-compliment-gh2-eos-m-or-else Fri, 27 Sep 2013 21:41:24 +0000 cmountman 8262@/talks/discussions Hello

I have a GH2 with the following lenses:

Sigma 30mm F1.4 Sigma 18-50 F2.8 Panasonic 14mm and 20mm

I also have a Shneider 18-90 F2 lens which I am having made into a Four Thirds lens

I am looking for a cheap second body that will give me footage that will compliment the hacked GH2

I am unsure of which Panasonic Body with hack will best compliment the GH2

Also is the new G5 and G6 planned for hacks? If so they would be perfect choices?

I am also considering the Eos M with its f2 lens although I am concerned that the h.264 format is being replaced next year and if this will make this camera obsolete or if they will offer the new improved codec/format a firmware upgrade?

If anybody has any thoughts on this I would be grateful to know your opinions

GH3 is still too expensive

Thanks

Best of Personal-View http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7308/best-of-personal-view Thu, 20 Jun 2013 18:41:02 +0000 Walker 7308@/talks/discussions I've been reading personal-view.com since its beginning and realize some comments, threads or (articles) stand out from the others. Some are special because they're timeless, others because they were timely when published and some because they contain the definitive explanation for something.

P-V.com has become big (enormous!) and almost un-browseable. To access the best treasures within the site, I was thinking that , (rather than the sticky flag you get on forums) a Best of Personal-View could be produced and published as, say, a Pay-Per-View revenue earner on a different site, an e-Book, even a paper book or a yearly mag.

This site seems to use a content management system which I recognise and which would allow an extra field (for us users, a button), which would allow PV-ers to click on a particular post and have that post submitted to, (say, an Editorial team) for mediation and inclusion.

I'd like to see pictures, videos and footnotes from the editor explaining why the item has made it to the Best of Personal-View list.

I know this has been discussed over and over but I don't find a simple answer to that. What is the best cinematic hack, with best quality image (I have 95mb/s 64gb card) I just need to know.

I'm shooting a short tomorrow with quite a lot of VFX and I tried some hacks and from what I've read Canis Majoris is the best? I also tried Sedna Q20 which I liked but I'm not sure...

Can someone assist?

NEED HELP to find the best (set of) Settings for my Project http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5474/need-help-to-find-the-best-set-of-settings-for-my-project Thu, 13 Dec 2012 06:21:30 +0000 MetaControl 5474@/talks/discussions Hi guys!

Once again I am pondering a decision to which I would like to inquire on this forum's awesome knowledge of all things GHack2 related.

So what is this all about? You see, I am in pre-production for a no budget webseries called JÄSØN (http://creativemonkeys.org/jason/), a satire about a failing wannabe serial killer klutz. The style I am going for is grimy dark and dusky narrative. A lot of Se7en and 8mm. The first episode has a long low steadicam shot going through several rooms of Jäsøn's trashy apartment, showcasing his failed and broken life. There are moments of serenity, when light breaks through barred windows and plays with dust in its path, there are many dark corners and an overall low saturated, mid/hard contrast range and a wicked eeriness I want to achieve. Then there is a low light scene in a bathroom with flickering fluorescence light, and one ultra slow motion moment.

Our DoP will light it properly, I have no doubts, but I would like to have the proper Hack for the right shot prepared. I thought about getting a couple of cheap and slow SD cards and store different hacks on them and use them on set as we need them.

But here is my problem: My DoP is not familiar with the GH2 - he has a 5D MKII he suggested to use, but I think the GH2 has a nicer film look - and I want to make it as easy for him as I can, by having the best settings ready. And since I am not so good with cameras to understand the finer details as much as many of you do. This is why I am turning to you for help.

I need a set of 3-5 hacks that I can swap on set when needed, to accomplish the best shots. The premises are:

Best Quality - The best possible image quality. Is 2k HD MotionJPG an option? Any other suggestion? Film Look - as close to narrative cinema (80/90ies) as possible. I am considering to use anamorphic lenses here and there, so that should work too. Slow Motion and Ultra Slow Motion - I don't mind using 720p and upscale it later for those shots. How much difference is GOP1 and GOP3. Good Low Light - I do have light, so I am not too worried about low light situations, but I might want a shot were we deliberately do not use any light and for that, I would like to be prepared. Equal Quality/Equal Style - All the hacks need to work and/or work together flawlessly. 25FPS - Living in Europe, I have to adjust to the 50Hz issue. This is why I am opting for 25FPS, but IIRC it should work just as well with 24FPS as long as the shutter is set to 50/100 etc. right? [Edit] Greenscreen - For some effect shots, we will use a greenscreen and a good setting for that, to preserve as much color and details as possible, would be great too.

I am looking forward to your suggestions (including in-camera settings, workflow etc.) and thankful for your help.

PS: I forgot to mention: I have a 64GB 45MB/s SanDisc Ultra and currently no budget to buy the 95MB/s version, as I have to put the few bucks I have into other things, but spanning is irrelevant for me, as there are no shots that should be longer than 3-4 minutes. Thoughts?
