Asus ProArt 32UCX VS Apple Pro Display XDR http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23242/asus-proart-32ucx-vs-apple-pro-display-xdr Fri, 13 Dec 2019 07:48:11 +0000 jonpais 23242@/talks/discussions While awaiting delivery of my Asus PA32UCX-K this afternoon, I thought I’d compare a few of the features and specs of the two displays, bearing in mind that the XDR has not yet been tested.

The XDR boasts 6K, while the Asus is a 4K monitor; however, only the 2019 Mac Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro can run the XDR at full 6K resolution. Both the Asus and the Apple are true 10-bit displays.

Apple claims 500 nits for their display in SDR mode and 1,000 nits sustained and 1,600 nits peak brightness in HDR mode. The Asus can deliver anywhere from 620-656 nits in SDR and from 1,400-1,534 nits maximum brightness in HDR, depending on which reviewer you read.

The Pro Display XDR has 576 local dimming zones, whereas the Asus has 1,152.

On his YouTube channel, Marques Brownlee says his Pro Display XDR is virtually silent, while the Asus is supposed to get quite noisy.

According to Asus, the maximum viewing angle of the PA32UCX-K is 178 degrees in the horizontal and vertical (Apple claims 180 degree viewing angle for the XDR), and according to tests, hue, saturation, brightness, contrast and color temperature remain virtually unchanged even at extreme viewing angles. I expect Apple’s display will be no slouch in this department either.

As far as connectivity goes, Apple’s monitor has one TB3 port and three USB-C ports. The Asus comes with dual TB3 ports, one DisplayPort and three HDMI 2.0 ports.

The Apple Pro Display XDR runs $6,500 in the USA when purchased with stand and AppleCare+. Throw in the nano-texture glass option and that figure skyrockets to $7,500.00. In Vietnam, the ProArt 32UCX-K costs half as much ($3,300.00) and comes with stand, a three-year warranty and an X-Rite i1 Display Pro colorimeter (value $250.00 in USA, $325 in VN). With the Asus, you will however have to factor in another grand for Blackmagic’s UltraStudio 4K Mini. Ouch!

Best way to edit 4K footage to HD output Premiere Pro iMac http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15728/best-way-to-edit-4k-footage-to-hd-output-premiere-pro-imac Wed, 14 Sep 2016 16:33:10 +0000 webarchitect 15728@/talks/discussions Greetings, and thanks to all who contribute here. I learn something almost daily. While I've read posts in several places on this topic, I've not found consensus, but have run into issues. Here's the scenario:

I'm shooting 4K with the GH4 for all the benefits including punch in, pans, etc. Final output is 1080p. Occasionally I'll mix in some HD footage.

The last project I did was 6.5 mins, but much to my surprise was really dragging down my computer. I wonder if some of you with more experience can suggest a better workflow. I'm hoping to avoid buying a new computer for another year, but will do what I must when I can. Here's what I'm working with:

Premiere Pro CC iMac (Retina 5K, 27 inch, Late 2014) 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5 16 GB 1600 MGz DDR3 AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2048 MB

To create a sequence, I've simply dragged the the first 4k clip to the timeline and let Premiere handle the settings accordingly. I edit, then export as HD.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and advice!

I'm selling an Apple wireless keyboard. This is the current model being sold by Apple (model number MC184LL/B). I bought this from the Apple Store a few months back, but after a few days I didn't like it versus the old keyboard, so it's been sitting in its box. This is basically a new in box unit, other than the fact that it was used for a few days, then put it back in the box. It's in perfect condition. Cost is $49 and that includes shipping in the US. (They sell for $69 at Apple Store.)

Thanks, Matt

I am selling my fully loaded MacBook Pro Retina. It has all the updates available at the time I purchased it such as fast processor (2.7GHz turbo boost to 3,7GHz), 16GB Ram and 512 SSD. It comes boxed as new with all the original packaging. It is in perfect working order and looks brand new. Since the day I bought it it has had a rubberized case on, a Moshi keyboard protector, Moshi trackpad protector and Moshi palm rest protector on. I can leave these on for you or remove them. I bought the laptop in Korea so as well as the normal western alphabet there is also the bonus of korean symbols on.

It works flawlessly with video production or graphic design. I run Davinci Resolve on it and also the whole Adobe Creative Cloud as well as FCPx.

I am only selling because I recently upgraded to an iMac 5k so I have no need for a laptop anymore.

I am also throwing in a Hyperdrive with 128gb micro sd card. This fits in the SD card slot flush and provides additional 128gb storage. perfect for documents or storing movies on leaving the SSD available for more intense applications.

I am selling for 1400GBP. I will post via Hong Kong Post or DHL via express and trackable method with insurance.

Email me directly if you have any further questions. (stuart.howe@gmail.com)

ASUS Zenbook UX303LB-DS74T/UX303LN-R4274H: Anything Better Than This? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13025/asus-zenbook-ux303lb-ds74tux303ln-r4274h-anything-better-than-this Thu, 21 May 2015 09:29:52 +0000 BlueBomberTurbo 13025@/talks/discussions Been searching for a more portable laptop to use than my Late 2013 rMBP 15. I don't mind losing a bit of CPU grunt in exchange for reduced size and improved battery life. The biggest hurdle I've found is finding a competitive screen. I had previously narrowed it down to the new Dell XPS 13 and Acer R13, but the Dell has issues with firmware locked adaptive brightness, and the Acer had horrible viewing angles. Beyond those, it seems like the ASUS UX303 line, specifically the LN (now LB in the US) version with the Nvidia GPU, is the best match for me. The ones listed in the title are roughly the same, just different naming for different regions and a different LCD. Here's a good review with specs:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-Zenbook-UX303LN-Subnotebook-Review.137995.0.html

I really can't find any faults as far as specs, performance, or battery life. Only thing left is to see the screen in person. Is there anything else with similar or better specs at a similar price ($1299 USD w/1800p display + 512GB SSD) that can compare? I'd rather not go back to Apple, as the only reason I bought the rMBP 15 was for the hardware, and I haven't warmed up to OS X or the gimped flavor of Windows run in Parallels and Boot Camp.

Issue with Macbook Pro 13 2011/SD Card http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6161/issue-with-macbook-pro-13-2011sd-card Sun, 17 Feb 2013 16:33:50 +0000 Hakosuka 6161@/talks/discussions Hi I done a search but couldn't find anything related to my problem.

When using my Sandisk 64GB 95Mbps card and Macbook Pro I get error code 36 when trying to copy MTS files to the desktop. It's very temperamental and I haven't been able to fix it. It works fine if I use a USB card reader. The only issue is when I'm using OS X and the in built reader. Ironically the in built reader works fine when I boot into a Windows bootcamp so I believe the problem lies within OS X. Has anyone else got the same combination and have the same issue? I also get this issue with the 8GB version of this card. I've tried formatting both within camera and software.

The only way I'm able to really copy files from my card is to keep taking it out and putting it back in until it eventually copies over completely.

"As of March 1, 2013, Apple will no longer sell Mac Pro in EU, EU candidate and EFTA countries because these systems are not compliant with Amendment 1 of regulation IEC 60950-1, Second Edition which becomes effective on this date. Apple resellers can continue to sell any remaining inventory of Mac Pro after March 1,"

"The Mac Pro met the previous standards prior to the amendment 1 addition. Obviously it's a very safe and very reliable product," added the company.

At issue are the large fans within the Mac Pro. Since they are unprotected, it would be possible to touch the fan blades.

"The new requirements necessitate fan guards and some increased protection on the ports on the electrical system," explained Apple.

Another nail in the Mac Pro coffin.

Apple Report http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5884/apple-report Wed, 23 Jan 2013 20:00:50 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 5884@/talks/discussions

47.8 million iPhones sold in Q1 of 2013 represents a new high water mark

iPhones and iPads -- the latter of which sold 22.9 million units during the quarter, up from 15.4 million a year ago and 14 million last quarter.

Yet shares dropped 10% after announcment.

In Q4 2012 (I mean here actual qurter, for Apple it is Q1 2013) Apple had all kinds of problems.
Hence they use famous Nokia techniques on artifically boosting sales figures.
They use intermediates and push as much items as possible just storing them, making good numbers in reports (but not good enough still).
Reports starting from late 2012 and first month of 2013 showed that Apple removes orders accross most partners, so they could sell big existing stock.
