I have seldom used a FD lens before but I have two lenses on order in FD mount (One Vivitar 55mm 2.8 macro and a Tokina 28-80 A27). I was wondering what will be the best FD lens adapter for m4/3. I hear a lot of good things about this Poland made one..

Hi everybody. I'm a new GH-2 owner just starting to get my feet wet. Which means I'll probably say or write something stupid pretty frequently. Looking to take advantage of some bits of glass I have laying about; I'm itching to play with my trusty Switar 1.6 10mm on the GH-2. Are there any warnings / suggestions you can offer regarding my choice of adapter? I've already sent one back (cheap e-bay junk) that was poorly machined and would not fully rotate so it would lock, so the camera complained... Thanks in advance! Dave

Hi, can anyone recomend a good eos adapter that can control aperture. All i see is the kipon one and its cheap knock offs that has the iris built in. Even though it looks fancy, something tells me its more gimic than functional ie loss in IQ. Anyone used these or anything else and what are your thoughts. I am looking to mount a canon mp-e to a gh

Fotga Nikon G to m4/3 adapter

I have bought this one on Dx for 20$ something, shipped from Hong Kong.

When I attached Tokina 11-16 to it, first thing I noticed is very tight fit, no wobble at all, between lens and adapter, and between adapter and GH2 as well. That is the only good thing about it.

Lens does not focus to infinity, actually it does not focus at all, somewhere in the middle the focus scale it does, but it is useless. Than I measured it and it is 0.8mm smaller than the Voigtlander Nikon F - m43/ that I have.

Then I tried to hack/fix the adapter. I have made some kind of nano washers, drilled tiny holes in pieces of metal around 0.5mm thick and inserted them on small screws in between lens mount ring and adapter body. That way I've increased flange distance to the point where lens could focus to infinity (and beyond :)).

But the small screw in the adapter that pushes the aperture lever of the lens now got 0.5mm above the lever, so I had to push something on that too to make it working.

After that I proudly attached the lens and gotten outside only to find out that I have enormous light leaks inside the adapter. The pin that holds Nikon lens has a HOLE to clear it's lever when pushing it. When the pin gets in the lens, hole gapes open. Great thing for lens whacking light leaks experiments.

Then I wrapped some velcro cable ties around, to prevent light from entering the adapter.

Aperture control ring on the adapter is off by few degrees, so it does not reach it's lock position at 'open' side. So i had to unscrew the lens from the adapter for few degrees to allow that ring to open the aperture all the way. So the lens does not click to the adapter, but that tight fit and cable ties hold it quite well.

Now it works.

What a waste of money and time.

I just shoot a couple offers to a well known (for the adapter's quality) seller, and he refused my $320 final offer.

His price on ebay was $450, but with the "make a proposal" option, and the adapter had a support bracket.

I understand the Lomo prices madness (I just bought a set of lens for ridicolous price here in Italy, that was luck), but i would like yours opinion about spending $450 for an adapter. And this seller is the factory, no middle men in the business.

I bought from him an oct-18 mount when he haven't the "make an offer" yet, that makes, in my opinion, a factory less serious. The fact is, i saw another seller from same country, and maybe i'll go for a less expensive one.

The bottom line is: people here works for free to do the best things for MFT, and other people are making money on this.

I hope that some factory in China will join the adapter business, i bought from pchood here (Cinematics) and you see you're dealing with serious people. Please share your thougths.

How-to: Fix lens to adapter looseness

So I figured out a way to get rid of the looseness between lenses and their adapters. Since most of us use still lenses that tend to fit a little loose in their mounts and then wiggle and move when focused. This can cause the frame to shift slightly and it's very noticeable when rack focusing. I found very thin adhesive PTFE(teflon) sheets that can be cut out to the same shape as the mounting face and used to shim the lens to make a tight fit. I just cut out a piece large enough to cover the face of the mount and then trimmed the PTFE to the OD and ID of the mount face. Teflon is of course very slick and has a bit of pliability to it so that it won't mar the mounting surface of your lens. In any case, I make no warranty about this so do it at your own risk. :)

What I used was .005(PN 2208T21) and .01(PN 2208T111) thick sheets of adhesive PTFE from McMaster-Carr supply:

I'm not sure where you can get sheets of adhesive PTFE in other countries though. I assume there are industrial supply companies that have raw materials like this.

I'll get some pictures of them up soon.

Emailed Conrus after seeing their adapter for the NEX camera - they have plans to release a version that will support canon eos lenses on the m4/3 format in Q2 of this year. If this is like the NEX adapter it will support electronic iris control and canon's image stabilisation, all powered from the camera.

Extend physical (not focal) length of lens?

I buckled down and bought the Voigtlander 25mm f.095 and I love it. But now it's time to put a follow focus on it. As anyone who owns this lens will know, the focus ring has old-school ridges that make it tricky to put a focus gear on, but right underneath it is a "smooth" area that I am convinced could be made to turn with my iDC System Zero follow focus (if not by itself, then with a standard office ziptie or something similar).

The problem is, the shape of this device puts the rubber about a millimeter shy of where it needs to be. It's so close, but it doesn't quite touch:

If I could find a way to add even 1/8 of an inch to the lens, I think that it could make contact and possibly work. But my problem is that all adapters tend to do something. I want one that does not do anything. Since it's a manual lens to begin with, I won't be losing any functionality.

Does anyone know of anything like this, or another workaround?

Where ever the sender moves, the receiver follows.
Panning and tilting.

So if you do not have a cameraman but move in front of the camera, this is ideal.

The problem is, that it omly works with smartphones, preferably IPhones and light point and shoot cameras up to 6 ounces.

So my question is:
Does anybody know of a similar product, that would work with a GH2 ?

Vladimir-- built an Arduino-based pass-through ring (translated) which intercepts automatic lens controls. It’s meant for use with the Canon EOS lenses which have their own electronics allowing control of things like focus and zoom.

It seems like part of the motivation here was to uses the lenses with other brands of cameras. But Vladimir does also talk about the possibility of improving on some of the sensors that don’t perform well in certain climate conditions (think of how crystal oscillators will drift as temperature changes).

The machine translation is a bit rough to follow, but it seems the adapter ring still uses the settings sent in from the camera but has the Arduino clone to translate them into a format that the lens is expecting. In addition to this there is a set of buttons on that small PCB beside the lens which allow for fine tuning the aperture.

It would be nice to translate GH-2 lens focus commands to say Canon. Then we can have our autofocus and aperture control on a wide range of adapted lenses.

Maybe a Russian speaker can e-mail him to see if he can adapt to M43 to canon rather than Sony to Canon.

One of the issues with still lenses is that they are in many ways not well suited for film, but I have some ideas on what to improve them! Most of this comes not from improving the lenses, but the adapter between them. My ideas so far would be an adapter like this:

1. Mounted sideways: This way the focus mark and aperature all end up mounted sideways, like a cine-lens. Makes life for your focus puller easier.

2. Extra tight lock: As we saw in another thread, adapters tend to be a bit loose at times. While there are ways to improve it, I would not mind and extra lock screw.

3. Ability to set flange to focal distance (shimming more or less): This might not work in practice, but this would be to make sure the focus marks are on, but as they might be off on the lens, this might be rendered moot.

And if possible a back that has a bokeh filter holder added, for getting anamorphic bokeh at a wide-angle.

Do you think this would be doable? Because an adapter like this could help a lot for us that use a focus puller and to adapt still lenses for better work for video!

Looking at old TV cameras, you can see some that have three lenses mounted which rotate. Since Micro 4/3 needs an adapter anyway, why not make where you can attach three prime lenses and rotate them while filming? I would buy one!

I Shot this Ex tempore piece with my 44Mbit 6GOP 24P settings and a Class 6 card. Although not quite art, I'm quite happy with it. :) Most of the shots were underexposed, then color corrected to something interesting. :) Used the 14-42 Kit lens with a Richarm 0.45x Adapter. The kipon mounts get pretty expensive look them up at adorama or ebay i think i got the canon one on ebay for over 100 plus shipping but i'm flexible if my guess is too high. It would be perfect to sell all 3 to the same person for an easy ship. I know you can find cheaper stuff but these are quality! As a result try to be fair with your offers ? i'm open to best offer on them =)
