    Issue is that you have high voltage backlight signal next to low voltage data signal. Bad things happen if something connects theml like moisture :-)

    Most fun thing that designers for years understood the issue, and even on modern notebooks you hac have flex cable where backlight is far far away and lot of contacts are not used between. Best notebooks have two separate cables even.

    I am not talking about famous Apple spill resistance, or total lack of it. I personally saw internals of lot of Thinkpads and Lenovo Yogas and some of them are superb in this regard (you need to literally drop computer in water for this to happen).
