Bit misleading saying its 'Churches'
50% is actually higher than I thought even considering a percentage is Mosques and Synagogues. At least when people go now its less likely to be tied to cultural habit and more genuine faith. I bet if you did this for Europe it would be much lower...At least for Churches anyway.
By backing Trump the evangelicals have lost a lot of moral credibility and this may have long term consequences much like the Catholic Church in Ireland is now experiencing the payback for its past moral failures. It may be that in the long run, for ordinary people, moral credibilty is far more important than intellectual credibility.
This is a subject that continues to perplex. It's clear that the younger you are, the less likely you are to identify with any organized religion. Still, a lot of millennials, especially women, have a strict unspoken moral code that varies (vegetarian, vegan, or ...) by region and social class. There is a large unserved market in what organized religion provides, and someone will eventually fill it. When that happens, the decline of traditional churches will accelerate.
