50mm lenses, fast ones

my bad, 1.4. I know it's old but I've been using one to fill that range and it looks pretty good to me...well, the outside of the lens looks like shit but the image looks good! :)Think you can get one for around $100 on ebay.

1.4D? How's manual focus on it and how would you rate the image wide open at night? ...Sigma seems to have better ratings, so it's a bit of a toss up. Thx

where did you see the old ai nikkor rated against the newer glass? I have one if you want to borrow it to check out. I actually don't use it that much. I just step forward with my Rokinon 35mm :)

Rokinon is huge man, the Nikkor 50 is nice and compact (comparitively)

I've got a few fast 50s. Here's an old test clip comparing a Nikkor and Takumar. I should try comparing these with some Rokkors I've aquired since then.

A 50mm lens keeps you creative. For the cost, most 50mm 1.8s are insanely good lenses. There is no zoom, there is only you, sou have to frame your images the right way from the right distance. For a portrait, you’ll need to get close, for a cityscape, you’ll have to step back a bit.
