    This is very disturbing news, which I got in writing just few minutes ago.

    In short USPS will not want to ship ANY Lithium battery after May 7. That means no iPhones, no cell phones, no iPads, Kindle or notebooks.

    I am trying to find out if they might do some exceptions as this really seems like very harsh rule.

    I just wanted to post it here ASAP. In case you plan to ship some electronics do it before the deadline.

    Japan had been quite known for this idiotic rule already.

    Yep, idiots galore.
    Btw, their proposed solution is... change the agreement.
    Considering current situations, most probably solution had been lobbied by manufacturers, as US market is major source of gray imported electronic goods.
    Most important here are tablet and smartphone markets. As price difference can be dramatic here.

    Problem is that source is very good.
    It is one of the largest intermediary.

    Another bad news for electronic customer just like me. I used to buy some of rare synths and lens in Japan and it's a pain in the ass to pay for a separated battery shipping by the sea. It's obviously that's been done for economical reasons. I'm quite sure they fired up those famous laptops their selves to create that myth. Our prices are usually 2x of other world prices and it's no surprise we've been pushed to pay it.

    This rule is likely a result of the recent cargo plane crashes. I believe 1 went down in the Middle East was due to fire from Li-ion batteries. I recall there was an another more recent near crash event when some shipped Li-ion also caught fire.
