Rylo bought by VSCO, no more 360 cameras
  • We’re excited to announce the acquisition of Rylo, the makers of a compact camera with powerful video stabilization technology. We know demand for video editing is only growing across the industry and it is no different on VSCO. This acquisition not only enables us to further accelerate the delivery of innovative video editing features for our community, but reinforces how important video will be for VSCO’s growth and future.

In just the past year, we’ve seen video editing double on VSCO, and DSCO our GIF creation tool remains one of our most popular features. It’s clear that our users want more video tools and new ways to tell their stories through creative self-expression. Though Rylo is most well-known for manufacturing compact cameras, over the past several months the Rylo team has been exclusively working on mobile video editing tools. Building high-end video editing capability on mobile is no small feat and we believe our combined technology and focus on video will help pave new innovation for video editing tools. We can’t wait to make these new tools available to the VSCO community next year.

We are also incredibly excited to bring on board an impressive team from Rylo that includes co-founders, Alex Karpenko and Chris Cunningham. The entire team brings deep experience in developing and shipping video technology at scale, including co-creating Instagram’s timelapse and direct messaging features and iPhoto for iOS.

From the first meeting with Alex and Chris, I felt an immediate alignment around how we could help people connect with and invest in their creativity. This is probably what excites me the most about Rylo joining VSCO — we have acquired not only some of the best video editing technology available today, but an incredibly talented and humble team who share our desire to help unlock creativity for everyone.

We’re excited to welcome the Rylo team to our Oakland headquarters this week and look forward to building the next generation of mobile-first video editing tools together.
