They also have coupon that is easy to find on internet for free shipping in US (and use Shipito for the rest of the world!)
Reason - refurbished. In reality they are like new, sometimes even better configuration then stock.

Drobo http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3684/drobo Sun, 24 Jun 2012 09:08:50 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 3684@/talks/discussions image

Quite sad story:

When I came into work a couple of days ago, I cringed when I saw an all too familiar problem — my drobo cycling on/off over and over again. It doesn’t mount, and I can’t access my photos — essentially it’s a brick. Again.

In fact, this was the fourth recorded incident Brad and I have had with drobo so far. And while you’re waiting for your new drobo, you cannot access any of your photos or files on your bricked drobo. You’re basically locked out.

When my photo assistant Brad called their tech support for me, they told him my dead drobo is out of warranty. To get my photos back, I would have to pay nearly $300 for drobocare (an extended warranty program). So basically, while my drobo is supposed to protect my photo archive, what it has actually done is hold my photo archive hostage for almost $300.

NAS experiences / how do you store your video footage? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1963/nas-experiences-how-do-you-store-your-video-footage Sun, 08 Jan 2012 15:27:57 +0000 RRRR 1963@/talks/discussions I'm curious for your experiences with different NAS solutions for video.. and some help (if you know any good solution).

I am personally looking for a 8-12TB max capacity storage server which performs well for both mac and pc, preferably there should be DLNA support (television access - to display material for customers).

It would be great if there was a solution to (eventually) connect locally through thunderbolt... (for editing stations) and cloud / remote access with good function would be good to have.

Basically, in an ideal world it needs to perform so well locally that it is possible to edit (without big loss of performance) material without copying.

And most important of all - it should be easy to use!

As always, it's a relation between cost and function - I've calculated a budget around 1000 euros for solving the matter (in other words - including some, if not all 8-12tb storage space..)

However, what I need should be secondary here (although I suspect some of you have similar needs) - the real question is what you use for backing up / storing files?

Formatting external 1TB Drive - NTFS or ExFAT? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3520/formatting-external-1tb-drive-ntfs-or-exfat Sat, 09 Jun 2012 05:10:25 +0000 pundit 3520@/talks/discussions I have just purchased an external 2.5" 1TB USB 3.0 hard drive. The drive will primarily be used to backup GH2 MTS files from SD cards while on location. It will be connected to a Win7 laptop but also needs to connect to a Win XP PC. (I have installed the Microsoft ExFAT driver)

I would also like to be able to connect the drive via USB to my Dune Smart D1 media player. Currently the Dune will not directly read my Sandisk 64g 95mb SD cards which I think maybe a Dune/ExFAT incompatibility issue.

I believe the GH2 formats SD cards to ExFAT.

After searching for a definitive answer I'm still not certain whether to format the hard drive to NTFS or ExFAT. Advice needed - TIA

I need a new CF card and I would like to be sure that it works for All-I Compression too. Is there a need for SanDisk ExtremePro 90MB/s or is the SanDisk Extreme 60MB/s fast enough? I did some short test with my existing 45MB/s and it worked fine but I would not rely on that in all cases. Price difference 60 vs 90 MB/s is 90€ for a 32GB card.

I also tested some EX3 50Mb footage on a Transcend .. works two.

Card formatting for better reliability http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/685/card-formatting-for-better-reliability Tue, 16 Aug 2011 15:00:35 +0000 allenswrench 685@/talks/discussions it is my first post so be gentle.
Ever since the hack came out, I have mostly been trying the highest bitrate settings and have spent most of my time with 65000 with no card read/write errors. This was really great since I only have 1 card.
I have used my card for other things too (watch movies reformatting to NTFS etc) and have noticed the performance going down....
To cut the long story short, if you need (and I know you do) your card to be as good as new or better, you need to do a THOROUGH format every now and then. Use the CCleaner's Drive Wiper option (takes about 25 minutes on my one and only great 16GB card) and it really will wipe the s**t out of it. Then you just pop it into your GH2 and format to it's heart's desires and it is fast as hell.
CCleaner is free, you just need to go to the "drive wiper" section and format your card.
Hope this helps, as many people have been complaining about the write/read errors and I have never had them. My card is the el cheapo Transcend 16GB 10 class BTW.
QUESTION: Anyone has this card in the 32GB version? Please advise if the performance is the same.
Thanks all and all the best!]]>

Why not write files >4GB to SDXC cards? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3040/why-not-write-files-4gb-to-sdxc-cards Sat, 28 Apr 2012 14:06:45 +0000 karl 3040@/talks/discussions I understand that the "spanning"-feature is required to allow recordings bigger than 4 GB on SDHC cards - since they use FAT32 filesystems, files cannot get bigger.

But what is the slicing of recordings good for when writing to SDXC cards? They use ExFAT, thus files can get much bigger than any existing SDXC card.

Do you know why Panasonic chose to slice the files into pieces, anyway?

And do you think that the hacked firmware could just avoid to open a new file after 4GB (for people using SDXC, only)?

(BTW: BluRay disks use the UDF filesystem, and there files not only can get but are in fact often much bigger than 4GB - so "compatibility to BluRay players" cannot be the issue, here.)

interesting thing for us/settings GH2, for example SDHC667 (667x) but minimum 16MB/s so min. 16x8=128Mbit/s !!! for now already on the market and selling on xstra.eu see link below: "Pretec 16GB SDHC Card 567x Class 16" for €45,55 and there is 32GB version of this SDHC. BUT also on pretec the website there is SDXC 64GB, the cards all Class16, AND NOT the older versions (class10, 6, 4 etc.), here are the links:

http://www.pretec.com/news-event/press-room/item/press-room/worlds-fastest-cf-and-sd-cards-from-pretec http://ultimatephotographyguide.co.uk/pretec-announce-worlds-fastest-compact-flash-and-sd-cards/ http://www.ephotozine.com/article/pretec-announce-world-s-fastest-compact-flash-and-sd-cards-18707 http://www.pretec.com/products/memory-cards/sd-card

The minimum thing of Class16 means minimal trasfer speed of 128Mbit/s maybe this can help us the minimum limit (on the lower side) is 128Mbit/s AND up to it's higher limits (specifiation of Pretec).

Now we can do guaranteed minimum of 128Mbit/s ??!! Sounds good, BUT the also the "64GB SDXC 567x" and the upcoming "16GB SDHC667 667x". Maybe helpfull for "GH2-settings" and data is not lost when power is down!!!

It started feeling weird coming out, then the camera would start having shutdown fail errors with no card in the slot while it would stay on before. I checked the card and found a jagged sliver at the edge missing. Now it started jamming up with another good card. I managed to find the service manual online, but the screws were so tight on the back body I was afraid I would strip them. Finally I took a bread twist tie, stripped it to the wire and was able to fish out the plastic scraps jamming it up.

SDHC/SDXC Card Reports Idea http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2706/sdhcsdxc-card-reports-idea Tue, 27 Mar 2012 13:58:52 +0000 jrd 2706@/talks/discussions I know: that there are already at least two threads on card performance (SDHC, SDXC). Neither thread, unfortunately, provides much in the way of actual performance results with the most recent high-bit rate Driftwood settings.

To summarize as best I can, there are 3 categories of Class 10 Sandisk cards currently under consideration, as identified by the manfacturer's claimed transfer rate -- 30mbs, 45mbs UHS-1, and 95mbs UHS-1.

Here then is a request for a thread devoted to nothing but reported performance results, with respect to the new Driftwood settings. No technical discussions, no test results for lower bit-rate settings which are already known to perform with a variety of SD cards, no "what should I buy" or "should I return the product" questions. Just recording and spanning results on the most demanding settings, specifying the setting used by name and the shooting mode, and (ideally) a photo of the card, since manufacturers' product numbers appear to cover more than one line, and web sites photos often don't reflect the card actually being sold.

Is this possible? Can we start here?

Basically, would have gone with the Sandisk 64G 95mb/s cards, but I don't really need to do super high rate stuff at the moment, and wanted to split it up.

Basically, from everything I've been able to find, the 32GB 30mb/s sandisk class 10 (extreme hd video) cards were the thing to get... and I remember reading a number of posts saying to avoid the 45's.

Well... I ordered the 30mb/s, and they sent me the 45's.

  • the expensive Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s is the card to chose for best performance
  • our gh2 doesn't support uhs-1 technology

but the aforementioned Sandisk card is based on uhs-1 technology, so the gh2 seems to benefit somehow from it.

So far so good...

What I find confusing is that other uhs-1 cards seem, on the contrary, to be not any better than standard class 10 cards on our beloved camera, so my question is: what makes the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s so good on the gh2?
