Your rights as a photographer in US http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/927/your-rights-as-a-photographer-in-us Mon, 12 Sep 2011 06:05:31 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 927@/talks/discussions Your rights as a photographer

  • When in public spaces where you are lawfully present you have the right to photograph anything that is in plain view. That includes pictures of federal buildings, transportation facilities, and police. Such photography is a form of public oversight over the government and is important in a free society.
  • When you are on private property, the property owner may set rules about the taking of photographs. If you disobey the property owner's rules, they can order you off their property (and have you arrested for trespassing if you do not comply).
  • Police officers may not generally confiscate or demand to view your photographs or video without a warrant. If you are arrested, the contents of your phone may be scrutinized by the police, although their constitutional power to do so remains unsettled. In addition, it is possible that courts may approve the seizure of a camera in some circumstances if police have a reasonable, good-faith belief that it contains evidence of a crime by someone other than the police themselves (it is unsettled whether they still need a warrant to view them).
  • Police may not delete your photographs or video under any circumstances.
  • Police officers may legitimately order citizens to cease activities that are truly interfering with legitimate law enforcement operations. Professional officers, however, realize that such operations are subject to public scrutiny, including by citizens photographing them.
  • Note that the right to photograph does not give you a right to break any other laws. For example, if you are trespassing to take photographs, you may still be charged with trespass.

Mixing a PAL GH2 24p with 25p footage http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/855/mixing-a-pal-gh2-24p-with-25p-footage Sun, 04 Sep 2011 21:53:25 +0000 leoj 855@/talks/discussions
i had this shoot last week and it consisted of 3 canon's PAL (5D and 2 7D's) ..they all shot in 1080p 25 but my GH2 was hacked and using the 44mb 24p. Because i got a card write error on 1080i and 720p 50 when using the Sandisk 45mb 16GB my only option was 24p SH, is there anyway to change the clips to 25p with cinema tools and not have a 4% speed up in audio ? or just drop it in a 25p timeline and render out ? this final will be out on DVD

Independent creators working in this space are classic underdogs, attempting to overcome obscurity and low budgets with sheer talent and determination, and it’s exciting to see them break through. What we don’t talk about, however, are the folks who don’t succeed at breaking through to the next level.

Last month, Jonathan Nail, the writer, creator and star of the independently produced Solo, announced that he and his team would not be producing anymore episodes of the sci-fi comedy series. The blog post announcing the decision is a heartfelt thank-you letter to everyone who was involved in the show’s production, but it doesn’t go into detail about the reasons behind Nail’s decision. However, those reasons, as Nail explained during a phone interview, aren’t hard to guess: Like many who bet their time and money on creating an original series, Nail was dissatisfied with producing his own content and receiving minimal reward, and as a result he has decided to move on.

It's specifically about Photoshop but you can apply the ideas to any editing software:

I just installed the hack the other day and everything I have shot so far has been fine with the exception of the first couple of seconds of every video having the "blip," but today it figures when I go to shoot something important the video looks fine on the camera but when I do a log and transfer in FCP7, the video has constant choppiness and "blips" all over the place. It is now completely unusable. I thought that the problem might be log and transfer but then I tried to convert it with Toast Titanium and had even stranger results. The .mts file is almost 600mb but when I drag it into Toast, it says it's 2mb and when I export it, it just exports a 1 second clip of just solid green...?? What the heck!? There must be some way to save my video! I mean if it looks good on the camera playback then the file must not be the problem right? Someone PLEASE help me out here!! I was using recommended settings of 42000000 in 24H mode if that helps...

Thanks for any input]]>

Post-Production Options for Converting 30p MJPEG to 24p? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/481/post-production-options-for-converting-30p-mjpeg-to-24p Sun, 24 Jul 2011 18:34:13 +0000 qwerty123 481@/talks/discussions
Given the new exciting possibilities w/ MJPEG (like Lpowell's recent contribution) I think it's worth starting a topic on ways to convert 30p mjpeg to 24p IN POST. (I know that this cannot be achieved with the hack (yet?)).

Hunter Richards posted this a while back: http://bit.ly/nBc2tZ I haven't tried his method yet, in no small part because I don't have "Shake" and it looks hard to find.

Perhaps we should use thread as mainly for (1) listing or linking to methods of conversion and (2) examples. Also important is (3) how to get this kind of conversion to work flawlessly with types of audio recording

Let's try to keep discussions of "why would you want to do this, etc" out of this thread unless you think there's something really important to state. ]]>

1. Always get on-camera sync sound (as a minimum)
2. Leave some pre- and post-roll time.
3. Check the shot afterwards and redo it if you need to
4. Be clear about what you want to achieve in the time available.
5. Make sure you have full batteries and enough recording media
6. Get the focus, exposure and colour balance as accurate as you can.
7. Use the minimum of equipment you need.
8. Operate safely.
