We've seen some of this stuff in the past, but now he's made it available as a 4k release -- making him probably the first to sell a 4k feature to the public.

'Always Shine', made with a GH series or a mirrorless? Sun, 19 Mar 2017 21:15:25 -0600 Manu4Vendetta 16611@/talks/discussions The look remember me a GH series, I have curiosity about. IMDB dont have camera's specification and nothing about in internet. The movie look was a very low budget, for post they needed a kickstarter campaign of a goal $18,000 ended in $22,483.

Anyway, my curiosity is that seeing it I suspect it was with a GH, although they could use some Sony or a JVC camcorder M4/3, and even Samsung, but I lean more to the possibility of a GH.

The cinematography is from Mark Schwartzbard, first first assistant camera of 'Borat', camera operator of 'Brüno' and additional camera operator of 'Up in the Air', 'The Departed', 'Little Children'.

Anamorphic Footage - Kowa PL Primes, Sedna, Etc Wed, 29 Aug 2012 04:38:58 -0600 kholi 4400@/talks/discussions (not a typo)

3.55/Non tweaked version

From the vimeo description: > WARNING: CAMERA SHAKE

I had to hold up NDs while trying to handheld and focus at the same time. You have been warned.

Music: Anma Mama - Eureka 7: Astral Ocean

Hot Rod Cameras PL mount Kowa Anamorphics (40, 50, 75, 100) from Blacklist Productions GH2 w/Sedna Q20 Hack @ 1080/24 and 720/60 Smooth

Composed with TVLogic 5.6" w/2.40 stretch (close enough)

Just grabbed some whatever-kinda-footage to test out the new old set of Kowas. Really like them, much better than the set of Lomo squarefronts that I've used. Not Hawks or Panavisions but I'm considering shooting my next few projects (feature film included) on this set.

Stuff was lightly tweaked in final cut, just a straight log and transfer no 5DtoRGB this go 'round.

Interestingly enough I found a really cool way to rig up the Hot Rod PL mount, a Noga Arm, and a 5.6" that helps me hold it all a bit steadier...

UNFORTUNATELY... I had to hold up NDs while trying to handheld and focus at the same time as you were warned up front.

Will have to work that situation out, but it was still fun.

Desqueeze Process:

  1. Convert from AVCHD to ProRes (was probably LT honestly) in Log and Transfer
  2. Change Aspect Ratio in FCP on All Clips (drag one to the timeline, get the aspect ratio down, copy, drag all of your clips to the timeline, select them all, click paste attributes, select basic motion and distortion, click apply, drag all clips on the timeline to a new bin at once)
  3. Adjusted the image as I saw fit as far as center

The reason I did this? Didn't see any worthwhile difference or benefit to doing another file conversion just to get the aspect right, nor did I think the time spent was worth losing the ability to reframe even if it was left to right.

Others mileage may vary.

If you're interested in pictures of the rig you can ask me.

Will put some pictures up of the rig here, forgot them on the work tower.

Product shoot with Canon C300 Mk 2/MoCo Rig Tue, 31 Jan 2017 19:35:08 -0700 tubefingers 16390@/talks/discussions Here's a product shoot we recently got signed off by the client, was great working with the MoCo rig, really good experience, I think next time we use an Alexa Mini or similar rather than the C300 purely for ease of use.....or we build the desk in 3D if we can figure how to incorporate the actress, screens reflections and markers were removed using Cinema 4D (i think), graded in FCPX, very punchy but what the client wanted, opinions welcome :)

FEEDBACK ASKED: Working as a camerawoman and editor on music videos Sat, 06 Dec 2014 17:40:12 -0700 dlzn 11911@/talks/discussions I'm currently working as a videographer for like 10 months right now. Mostly 'specialized' in doing guerrilla style music videos. My goal is to achieve the high budget look, with the low budget costs (don't we all).

Gear used on both videos:

  • Panasonic GH2 cam with flowmotion hack
  • Two Minolta MD lenses, 28mm F1.8 and 50mm F.17
  • Sigma 19mm F2.8
  • Mostly shot with: a rig, tripod, table slider and handheld

My goal is to eventually work more with commercial artists and especially to learn as much as possible about cinematography and cinematic aspects used in music videos.

Would love to receive some feedback on both videos!

Tokyo People Mon, 19 Dec 2016 01:58:50 -0700 GMC 16202@/talks/discussions Strolling around Tokyo, there is a strange but fascinating mood in that city which is hard to explain. A certain loneliness inbetween all these people - "alone in the crowd", but after a while it turns around and you feel part of it. Initially, I wanted to discard the whole film entirely (it was more me testing my new Samyang 135mm f2.0), but then I stumbled across this song "crossed wires" by Neil Williams and Gerard Presencer at the site - and that was it, that was the mood. Hence, what the heck, I uploaded it ;-)

I AM ALWAYS HAPPY to hear feedback, as thats what helps you to improve, hence keep it coming!

Hi guys, this is a 10minute short movie - i did the music on. It's a sub 10k production - "many people work for the project - not for the money" kind of thing. And it is organized and done by a group of students from my university. It was shot with anamorphic lenses on a Red Epic.

It's in german, but there should already, or will be, subtitles. (U should get the plot anyway - it's more about images.)

Enter the Void {Drone, Motorbike, Flare} Tue, 06 Dec 2016 00:34:49 -0700 prorevolution 16141@/talks/discussions Hi there,

This was my first time working with a drone it's DJI 3, it came out remarkably well. Along with a A Camera Sony FS700.

I always thought drones were a bit of a gimmick, but with a wide open landscape, an action that is difficult/expensive to repeat. Stoked with how it came out. Would love to see any epic drone footage anyone else has. Please, link!

I was impressed with the picture quality though, requires a lot of light.

What's your experience?

Overheard at Thanksgiving - Short comedy vid shot entirely on the GH2 Mon, 28 Nov 2016 16:30:40 -0700 stampfli 16115@/talks/discussions Decided to do a last minute shoot for Thanksgiving weekend on my Panasonic GH2. Still a big fan of the camera for low-cost shoots.

We used the Panasonic 20mm for the opening shots (would have preferred the entire shoot on this lens but we were in a time crunch) and the Panasonic 14mm-140mm for everything else. A couple focus issues, but overall happy with the content from such a short time frame.

Here is the final product:

Ninja Warrior or Climbing? Fri, 25 Nov 2016 07:16:39 -0700 mpgxsvcd 16102@/talks/discussions Some people might remember the climbing videos I posted in the past. I haven't done one of those in a long time. The kids are all still just as into climbing but I just didn't have the time anymore to put into making the videos.

However, one of the parents of a climber decided to build a pretty spectacular American Ninja Warrior course in his backyard. Here is what opening day looked like.

This was filmed with the GoPro Hero5 Black and the Panasonic LX100. Most of it is UHD/4K @ 30 FPS or 2.7k @ 60 FPS. However, some clips were 1080p @ 120 FPS converted to UHD/4K @ 60 FPS. There is one 720p @ 240 FPS clip for the super slow motion. The compression artifacts are terrible but 240 FPS is really cool for slow motion.

If you have any questions about the GoPro 5 please let me know. I know it doesn't look that much better than the Hero4. However, it still is a fabulous camera for what it is designed to do and its price is actually quite reasonable.

There is no color grading done at all. This is footage straight out of the camera pieced together and sometimes slowed down or sped up. No other changes except for just a little general sharpening throughout the video. This is the first 4K @ 60 FPS video I have done for youtube. I don't have the ability to make HDR videos yet. However, I am really impressed with the true HDR videos youtube now has.

The land of the Tiger - a mini doc shot in central India with the Sony A7sII Mon, 07 Nov 2016 05:23:56 -0700 GMC 16007@/talks/discussions A mini documentary about the Tadoba Nationalpark in central India, where a population of tigers can still be seen in the wild. Already last year I made a little film about that area, which I find absolutely amazing:

This time it was monsoon season, which makes it especially difficult to track and see tigers, as they can easily hide in the jungle, and are not forced to come to the few water holes where you can typically see them. We were the only jeep on that weekend which spotted a tiger walking into the jungle. This posed a little problem for my film, as I had almost no footage.

My friend and colleague Parag Aklujkar, who made the whole trip possible and showed me around finally was helping me out with tiger shots which he did earlier already. Hence, a big "thank you" goes to Parag, without him there would not be any tiger shots in the film about the tigerland ... Also, he was borrowing me his Canon 100-400mm lens, which was really helpful!

I hope you enjoy the trip, let me know what you think in the comments below!
