Anybody else hear anything about these? They look awesome, but I'm not sure on their pricing yet... I can't find any info other than they're taking 1k Euro deposits at IBC.

If these are available for anywhere under $4k... the "big guys" are going to have a hard time selling their 4:2:0 8-bit "professional" camcorders. Look at how small their 3D rig is!!! GS2 is 2k 12-bit RAW w/ global shutter... very nice!]]>
Matching AF100 and GH2 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/740/matching-af100-and-gh2 Tue, 23 Aug 2011 08:46:00 +0000 spreegurke 740@/talks/discussions I was hoping to shoot Interviews with the GH2 as second camera if it hopefully supports 25p

In the meanwhile, has anyone already collected experience, what settings work well to match the look of both cameras?
Any help much apreciated.

Thanks.

P.S. Will there be a hack for the AF100 in the near future, or does it make sense to order an Atomos Samaurai for higher Bitrates?

Panasonic AG-AC7 hacked to 35-45 mbps? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/348/panasonic-ag-ac7-hacked-to-35-45-mbps Thu, 07 Jul 2011 13:03:14 +0000 TheNewDeal 348@/talks/discussions http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/sales_o/broch_pdf/ag-ac7.pdf
$1175 at B&H.

I love the flexibility of DSLRs, but often, when you just need to throw up a quick interview, DSLRs can be a major pain in the butt. Which can cause a risk in the real goal, which is capturing the creative spirit in the room. Especially in today's world, where I'm often the camera/lighting/sound operator and doing the interview too! I wish I had a "camcorder simple", low cost, 2nd cam that had a decent lens, O.I.S, and with reasonably higher quality compression than 17 mbps.

If there was a hack to get 35mbps or 45 mbps from this, I'd consider buying it as a second camera. No DOF, no lots of things. But I can twist and turn stuff quickly and easily in post now, when I have plenty of flexible time, after the unpredictable, easily distracted "talent" is gone. If I'm shooting interviews, or animals, or kids, or crowds, or long establishing shots, often if I can just getting shooting in five seconds, I can get a better performance from non-pro talent than any "perfect DOF" gets me.

I'm not giving up my GHs as my primary creative tool soon. But I often wish for the simplicity of my old SD GL2 "work horse," but at today's HD quality levels.

Does anyone else have another option that provides you a real usable result, at a consumer price like this? Or are we all just "toughing it out" with our DSLR complexity for every shoot? Please do tell...]]>
Getting an NTSC FS-100 for us Europeeans! http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/340/getting-an-ntsc-fs-100-for-us-europeeans Wed, 06 Jul 2011 07:04:26 +0000 Gabel 340@/talks/discussions But there is one issue: I need 24p, rather than 25p. As such I need an NTSC version.
So just import it you say!
Except there's a problem: You can't!

Sites like B&H are not allowed to sell it to Europe and I've even spoken with Sony themselves and they said that they can't import an NTSC version.
Which means that this thread goes out with the question: Does anybody here have any idea of how to import an NTSC version to Europe?

Of course, with a contact they could buy it there, but to me it just feels like there's got to be an easier way!

So this thread is dedicated to finding a solution! Of course, if one knew how to hack it into getting 24p, that could work too...]]>
View on some FS100 sides from crews.tv http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/228/view-on-some-fs100-sides-from-crews.tv Tue, 14 Jun 2011 05:13:36 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 228@/talks/discussions It would be a trifle unfair to criticise Sony’s new FS100 for not having some of the costly features of a high-end camera.

The new camera is from Sony’s NXCAM budget range, with a list price expected to be NZ$8.5K (Under US$7K) for the bundle including an E-mount 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 Optical SteadyShot Sony auto focus zoom lens.

It is a fair game to compare it to a Canon 5D Mk II though, and sure enough one was produced to sit side by side with the Sony FS100 when a group of camera and sound Crews.TV members met recently at Spoon Studios in Auckland. It’s a venue often used by Crews.TV and this time the session was to look at a pre-production FS100 sample loaned by Sony.

There are lots of spec sheets, press releases and reviews that will give you the details of the camera and cover the image quality, but for this group the discussion turned to three main usability issues, once the amusement of being able to shoot around corners wore off.

Higher Bitrates for Sony F3 and FS-100 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/216/higher-bitrates-for-sony-f3-and-fs-100 Sat, 11 Jun 2011 14:20:09 +0000 bannedindv 216@/talks/discussions Long presentation of FS100 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/49/long-presentation-of-fs100 Wed, 04 May 2011 02:15:07 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 49@/talks/discussions http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/video/collections-nab2011/video-nab2011_theater_nxcam_35mm/

This was performed at NAB 2011.

It has one more citing of 4:4:4 output capability.

Considering the price, features, image quality FS100 is better than AF100 in many applications.]]>
HMC 151 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7/hmc-151 Wed, 13 Apr 2011 10:53:11 +0000 Maciek 7@/talks/discussions I have that cam and in general i like video results it gives, but under some conditions, I mean contrast in sunny day, on the lines between highlight and shadows, HMC creates squares usually on people faces :) Maybe rising bitrate would help.

What do you think?
