I have some issues with my GH2. I am going to use it mainly as an webcam these days with an hdmi usb capure card. The problem i have is that in the live view mode in any other mode except for inteligent auto autofocus does not work ! I usually use A or P , neither one playing with all the settings possible in live mode autofocus did not worked, maybe i am doing something wrong or it's some sort of "bug" ? Probably they work after hitting the record button but i am speaking only about live view and out though hdmi cable. Thank you in advance !

Having *finally* (is almost 2021!) upgraded my YouTube vlogging camera from a Panasonic G6 to a GH4! http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24824/having-finally-is-almost-2021-upgraded-my-youtube-vlogging-camera-from-a-panasonic-g6-to-a-gh4 Thu, 03 Dec 2020 10:22:10 +0000 IronFilm 24824@/talks/discussions Have loved the Panasonic G6, such a big upgrade from the original Panasonic GH1 (thank you VK! This forum was fantastic for me with the GH1) which I started this filmmaking journey with (although technically it was my girlfriend's Nikon D90 or my sister's Canon T2i that I borrowed for the first handful of shoots), but in recent years I've been considering an upgrade. First to the Panasonic G7, simply to get 4K, but as the price of the Panasonic G85 kept on coming down on eBay that tempted me instead for the better low light, the live HDMI out, and of course the IBIS! But this is a slippery slope, because as I wait... then the Panasonic G9 got that big 10bit firmware update, and their prices were coming down with time too. (& more firmware updates came out too, such as better AF for the G9, and being a USB webcam for the G9)

Never really seriously considered the Panasonic GH5 or GH4, as they always got the most attention, thus I felt they always kept up the highest prices on the secondhand market, compared to the value that the Panasonic G series offered instead. But I still kept half an eye on the GH4/GH5 sales, just in case. Even considered a few alternative options such as Fujifilm, or for instance the Panasonic S1 that I bid on last week until the price shot up far too high for my tastes. In the end I kept on coming back to Panasonic MFT as offering by far the best value for money. (& the fact I already owned MFT lenses helped too)

However, today I won an action for a Panasonic GH4 for only NZ$417! (less than US$300) That was a price too good to ignore (but I doubt I'd have bid a penny higher), thus to my surprise I find out I've settled with the old Panasonic GH4 as the upgrade from the G6 I'm going with. Even though I'd like the IBIS / better high ISO / etc of the G85 or G9, it isn't such a bad thing to have settled for this cheap deal of a GH4 because it is just going to be for casual vlogging usage to create simple content for my YouTube channel. (https://www.youtube.com/SoundSpeeding/)

One very small benefit of going with the Panasonic GH4, is that when the price of the Panasonic G9 finally tumbles down to sub US$300 (right after the Panasonic G12 gets released?), then I'll be able to use the same Panasonic DMW-BLF19 batteries in both! (which wouldn't have been possible if I'd got a G7 or G85)

Now, how many more years until I upgrade my "big camera", the Sony PMW-F3? The F3 is a truly fantastic camera! I still think there isn't a better 1080 camera at this price point (but the world is moving onto 4K). Had it a fair few years, unfortunately the F3's popularity didn't last too long because the Canon C300mk1 got released shortly after and the C300mk1 just dominated the low / mid end professional work for that generational cycle. (interesting how the secondhand F3 has seen a bit of renaissance in 2019/2020 thanks to Caleb Pike & others)

Been wanting to do the natural upgrade to a Sony PMW-F5 for a while now, but can't justify it because as a Sound Mixer I don't do a high enough volume of camera work. The FS7/FS5 or even a secondhand FS700R might very well make more sense! (I like for instance all the work done with the FS700R by this guy: https://vimeo.com/paulbates However the FS700 isn't as nicely ergonomic as the FS5! That compact size is fantastic)

Just keeping my eyes open for the right secondhand deal, in absolutely no rush whatsoever. (as I'm still primarily by far a Production Sound Mixer, as what I do day to day)

GH5 AF Lock with an external monitor http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24682/gh5-af-lock-with-an-external-monitor Mon, 02 Nov 2020 10:55:08 +0000 LongJohnSilver 24682@/talks/discussions I switched my AF setting to AF Lock ON and AF Lock Hold ON as I've always done since GH2 but now I have an external monitor.

It doesn't work with an external monitor connected: I'm in AFS and a single press of the AF Lock button should focuses the subject and lock the focus.

I press the button, I see AFL on the display but the camera doesn't focuses. I shut off the external monitor or I disconnect the hdmi cable and everything works again.

The strange thing is that the setting I normally use for macro (AF-Lock: AF-ON) works perfectly. I found several post on the net. It's not the cable and not the monitor. Do you know if a workaround exists? I have the latest fw.

P.S. I forgot to say I'm a underwater videographer, so the camera is inside an uw housing hence no magical Jedi tricks as touch screen AF or manual focus for WA shots.

I use touch AF with MF and when I touched the screen to chose the focus area, instead of focussing, it displayed the magnified section of the image and didn’t focus up. I looked everywhere in the menus to see if I could change this, but no luck. Second one happened when I start recording, as well as the blinking red dot, the Motion picture record quality icon flashes red too. Looked through menus again to no avail. I tried doing a reset but nothing changed.

September 25, 2018- Leica Camera today unveils five major announcements at photokina including a groundbreaking L-mount, a new mobile application - Leica FOTOS, the Leica S3, a new color option for the Leica CL, and firmware updates. Each announcement, on their own and collectively, both raise and challenge the bar for what innovation, craftsmanship and ingenuity mean in the photography industry.

The Next Evolution of the Leica S-System

The launch of the Leica S3 marks the tenth anniversary of the launch of the Leica S2 at photokina 2008. Among an array of cutting-edge technical advancements, the new medium format camera, which utilizes the Leica ProFormat developed especially for the Leica S-System, features a striking increase in resolution, from 37.5 to 64 megapixels, and impeccable performance in any lighting situation. Subjects can be composed in the large and bright SLR viewfinder, focused sharply with the fast and reliable autofocus and captured at a continuous shooting rate of three frames per second. The entire sensor area enables not only full-HD videos, but, for the first time, also 4K cinema resolution, including the characteristic medium format look.

The S3 will be available beginning in Spring 2019 at Leica Stores, Boutiques and Dealers, for more information, please visit www.leicaca

Hacked GH2 for live streaming and recording at the same time? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24126/hacked-gh2-for-live-streaming-and-recording-at-the-same-time Thu, 23 Jul 2020 10:27:14 +0000 thiswayup 24126@/talks/discussions I'm helping a local music studio with a live stream show that is usually between 30-45mins. They don't have much budget and I thought a hacked GH2 would be perfect for this.

I was hoping to record and stream at the same time, plus need to bypass the 30min recording limit. I am using my own GH5 and use the CIne-V colour profile and if possible recording at 422 All-I.

Would like some advice on: - Which hacked firmware to use? - Any experience with this setup? - What alternatives which I could potentially use with my M43 lenses under £400 / $500 secondhand?

Panasonic G9 issues topic http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18876/panasonic-g9-issues-topic Sat, 27 Jan 2018 00:41:22 +0000 Eno 18876@/talks/discussions I bought the Panasonic G9, it's nice and all but like any other camera is has issues.

I started a topic where users can write their discovered problems in the hope that someone at Panasonic reads those forums and acknowledges them.

Below I will present what I found wrong on the G9 so far:

  • At higher ISO values I see more than several hot pixels in both Panasonic G9 cameras that I’ve bought. They don’t go away with the Pixel Refresh options (most of them are random). Please Panasonic implement a better way to mask them via a firmware update. It’s really annoying to have hot pixels in my images most of the time. It's hard to understand how important aspect was so easily overlooked!?
  • The auto ISO feature with minimum shutter speed option is not working properly. If for example I chose to set a minimum shutter speed of 1/100 seconds, I expect to get that setting no matter what! In the current implementation, the shutter goes below the limit I set after the camera reaches it's maximum ISO limit and considers it’s too dark. I what my camera to respect my wishes and never go below the minimum shutter speed I set when that setting is on!
  • It doesn't feature at all minimum shutter speed in video mode like the Gh3 and 4 had.
  • The video function flkr reduction can only be activated in still modes and not the video modes. :)) (should I laugh or be sad).
  • I can't set ISO 100 on the auto ISO option, why?
  • The joystick is a nice addition to the camera (in theory), but the way it operates makes it useless for moving the focus point! First, the speed is way too slow, second it only moves horizontally or vertically and we also need it to go in diagonals.
  • The AF (although very quick) in photo mode, in lower light values it hunts a lot and it's not that reliable (I had no problems with the GH4 in the same conditions).
  • Very annoying! In video mode I can't change from the main dial the focus type, continuous or single mode cause Panasonic decided to implement that feature on another menu (burred deep in the video menus) and that overwrites the back AF dial on the camera.
  • In RAW mode at ISO 200 (the so called base ISO in still mode), if the camera is underexposed a bit, the image has a huge magenta cast in the shadows (after exposure recovery). The problem only manifests itself at ISO 200, at ISO 100, 400 etc the camera works properly (I attached an example below). The big problem is that in auto ISO mode, in good light the camera most of the time will chose the minimum ISO 200 (where the problem is). If Panasonic can't correct this, at least they should give the option of ISO 100 in auto ISO mode, to avoid it (somehow).
  • The orange light that illuminates the top LCD fades away after a few seconds even if you are still changing settings that you want to see on the camera.

A small feature request: - Panasonic implemented Luminance levels of 16-255 and 0-235 but not the most useful 16-235 setting (it’s such a pity). Most players and TV's have Luminance values of 16-235 (the one that;s missing from the menu).

.................

Problems not necessarily related to the G9 but important nonetheless cause they affect the manual focus mode:

  • The current implementation of manual focus is close to useless way it is now (sorry but that’s the truth). I wish Panasonic would implement for their Lumix AF lenses, in manual focus mode a distance scale on the camera screen (basically what Fuji does)? There is a scale but without marked distance it's not very usefully. Panasonic AF lenses are grate in AF mode but are a really pain to focus manually. Can somebody at Panasonic please remove the annoying rotation speed sensitivity (or at least give an option to disable it if desire). Coming from manual focus lenses, it's very had to focus with those Lumix AF ones. So basically, I just really wish the option to have a constant reliable rotation of the focus ring (like how manual focus lenses behave) regardless of how fast or slow I turn it (in other words, I want only one speed when turning the focus by wire ring on the lenses). And an option to select the degree of the rotation (like 45, 90, 180 degrees of rotation). I understand the limitations of the continuous AF in video mode but please at least offer us a pleasant manual focus experience.

All above can be dressed in a firmware update if desired.

GH2 Mode dial stuck on Auto mode http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23785/gh2-mode-dial-stuck-on-auto-mode Tue, 21 Apr 2020 18:33:45 +0000 LawrenceDee 23785@/talks/discussions Hi there. I'm new to this forum and recently purchased a few Panasonic GH2s and patched them with Sanity X hack with plans to use them to film small concerts. One of the three that I purchased has an interesting issue where the mode dial at the top of the camera seems to be fixed in Auto mode and doesn't seem to change to other modes except for Progressive. The letter on the bottom left side of the LCD displays A mode and only changes to P when I move the mode dial to P. The camera does not seem to switch over to Movie mode or AI or any of the other modes when I turn the dial at the top of the camera. This particular issues was already present before the installation of the Sanity X hack and the issue continues to persist. I would like to use this camera for it's manual video mode in Cinema 24p and would like to know if there is a solution for this issue.

I have a quick video of both my cameras. The first camera is the one with the issue and I have followed by another GH2 which is functioning reliably and well with the Sanity X hack patched in. [

]

Ideas and/or suggestions on what I could try would be appreciated.

A big thanks to those who have placed so much effort into creating hacks for the gh2. I hope to explore the true value of a hacked GH2 as I navigate my way around this site.

Lumix GH5 get filename syntax http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23773/lumix-gh5-get-filename-syntax Thu, 16 Apr 2020 23:13:57 +0000 HarveyMushman 23773@/talks/discussions I'm trying to develop a simple capture tool that needs to know the filename of the last picture captured. I'm hoping there is a simple HTTP command that can be issued to return the last photo number. The ideal solution would return Folder and FileNumber after issuing HTTP:///cam.cgi?mode=camcmd&value=capture. I'm think a second command would return the desired value as an XML result from the camera.

Any direction where to find the answer would be greatly appreciated.

Used GH2, sensor streaking or flaring http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23748/used-gh2-sensor-streaking-or-flaring Mon, 06 Apr 2020 18:05:57 +0000 TreyM 23748@/talks/discussions Hello all,

I just bought a used GH2 from eBay. When I got the camera, I quickly noticed some horizontal magenta sensor flaring/streaking when pointing at a bright light over a dark background. I tested the same lens on a GH4 and the issue was not present, so I am certain this is from the sensor. I sent the following video to the seller and he refunded me and told me to keep the camera. Is the behavior in the video below known behavior for the GH2, or is it indeed faulty? This is the only lighting scenario where the camera does this. It is otherwise perfectly fine and usable. Admittedly, the ISO is really high at 3200, but I'm hoping it's not normal GH2 behavior.
