Possible to disable video recording start/stop on GH2 main shutter button?

Is it possible to disable the stop/start video recording function of the GH2's main shutter button? When I'm shooting video, I'd like to use that button just to change focus while filming. But it's so sensitive -- if I press just the tiniest bit too hard the camera stops recording rather than just refocusing. (I do practice, but still end up missing shots.)

I am hoping that I just missed a setting somewhere and that it's possible to set it up so that the red video button handles the stop/start, and the main shutter button does focus only. It wouldn't be the first time I've been confounded and confused by the settings!

So, if you want to express your personal opinion, you are welcome.
Any sign of not expressing your personal view, but blatant AF100 marketing compain, that is strongly going on few leading sites, will be eliminated.
Reason?
Panasonic thrown unprecedented amount of money on AF100 marketing. And it is long known for heavy forums usage.

Strange marks on video - Damaged Sensor?

So a mark/blotch has appeared on my videos recently! I think it happened after a lens change and there was some dust/dirt on the sensor as well which was visible with a loupe. However the mark in question doesn't seem to be visible when looking at the sensor?! It is present when using different lenses/no lens even It moves in ex-tele mode (to a position which would seem to correlate with the sensor crop of that mode) If I shoot a scene which has an over exposed section it will disappear as I move the camera to place the mark onto the over exposed area- i.e. no present when over exposed

I have tried a blower to remove the dust and also swabbed the sensor with a cleaning kit which removed all the dust etc. but this mark remains!!!

So what does it look like to you and has anyone encountered something similar?

I'm curious about the timecode features of the GH3. Is it possible to accept or receive timecode to/from another device? Or does the camera just record its own clock time? It's most useful if I can sync time to an external recorder.

Pretty disappointed with how my GH2 footage turned out. I shot a live band performance from side stage, and gave up on trying to fix it in post. The venue was very well lit, but I remember being at around ISO640. Was it overexposed? No matter what I do to the image color correction and grading-wise, it looks terrible.

Any tips on how to not do this again in the future would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Transferring Super 8mm Film: Best GH2 picture mode for accurate color reproduction?

I have collected several reels of Super 8mm film over the years and I finally picked up a transfer 'box' from eBay. Most of the footage is color and general 'home video' stuff (Christmas, somebody's wedding, some kid's birthday, etc), so what is the best picture profile on the GH2 to accurately reproduce the original color of the film?

I typically shoot with 'Smooth' all at -2, but that's so I get a very flat, gradable image. I will probably transcode the AVCHD files straight to an internet ready H.264 file, but I have no plans of grading any of it.

Which lens to use for a stablizer?

I notice my gh2 is shaky when I record. I see stablizers out there, but I have a MANUAL forcus lens on my GH2, a canon FD 50mm.

This wont work as I have to focus manually.

right now, it defaults to shutter speed...and then i have to push wheel to switch to aperture.

seems like there should be a way to set it so it starts on aperture and not shutter speed...

This is a bit of a weird post. I have a small army of GH2s and completely love them. I run them all hacked and use on every paid gig. However, I am going to purchase the Panny X 14-42mm lens for an upcoming concert (not a paid gig, just one I am attending) and noticed that for a few hundred above the cost of the lens, I could get the 14-42mm WITH a GF3/5 or GX1! THEN, I noticed the GX1 is supported by the hack..

Do you all have an opinion on a nice SMALL M43 camera supported by the hack? This would likely be a B camera on future shoots, and would be a great travel/family camera. The GX1 looks nice. If the hack allows me to get great footage and manual app controls over filming, then I would be THRILLED!

Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated. I love my hacked GH2s... Vitality has done amazing work.

replacing GH2 PCB main board

i have a dead GH2. authorized repair shop report it's the main board. $350 for the main board and $120 labour plus tax, over $500 canadian, not really worth it. just wondering if anyone has done this on their own. main board is $250 from Panasonic canadian parts supplier.

GH2 can't playback after being returned to stock firmware

I have a GH2 that was hacked and running the 88 patch. While shooting the battery ran out and the camera shut down. When I put in the fresh battery, I could record no problem, but i could no longer do any playback. When I got home I returned the camera to the original firmware, but not matter what I do I cannot get the camera to go into playback mode. Every time I hit the playback button the screen goes black and I get the SLEEP CANCEL" message. When I try and change the settings in the playback menu, it won't let me and the menu mode closes and goes back to shooting mode. I've tried everything, card reformatting, shooting in different modes, and resetting all settings, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?

Panasonic GH2, Faulty Shutter Release Button.

I recently purchased a GH2 as they are selling at stupid prices and thought it would be a good upgrade from my little LX3.

My charger died after around two charges and from new my camera has had an odd feel when the shutter release button is pressed at even the slightest angle. I was starting to wonder why I randomly couldn't review my photos or access the quick menu, it seems the button is sticking at the half press position.

As the button has been popping up at an angle it has rubbed on the paint which is now starting to flake off causing more sticking problems. To date I have probably used the camera five times but I am worried Panasonic will deem it as being user error as even to me it would look that way.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with a GH2?

Lower MP images in GH2

I'm really sorry if this has been asked before but I have had a good look around the forum and others but is there any way to reduce the resolution of raw images taken in any of the modes on the GH2. My situation is that I would like to do some short time lapses by taking images rather than video. By holding down the shutter button the buffer empties in such a way that it can take 1 15MP RAW image every 2 seconds. If I could reduce the MP of the image I believe that I could reduce this time. I realise that using a faster SD card would also reduce this time, more over around 6MP would do the job just fine, please let me know if this is possible or any alternatives.

I am not sure how to get the 24p playback smoothly. Video is not smooth even when recording and playing back. Since the 24p is higher bit rate, I wish the video plays back as smooth as the manual movie. Grateful for advise from your experience as I am not well into it yet.

Using the BeachTek DXA-SLR Pro, it strongly suggest doing a test recording to listen to one's audio setup. Can someone suggest a way to do this with the GH2. All I can do at the moment is listen to the small sound from the camera, which is not adequate. Suggestions? Thank you.

Iris Tweak vs ISO Tweak

I was reading the other day about de-clicking old Nikon lenses, and people's comments about how they'd like to slightly tweak the iris "on the fly" to adjust for minor light changes. Since I have a photographer background, the first thing that came to my mind is "Why would you want to do that? Doing so will change the depth of field!". Ok. Tweaking can be interpreted as "less than a click", that is, less than 1 stop (or 1/2 in some brands). But still, my question to you guys is "Why?" Is it because it is the only basic parameter (Aperture/SSpeed/ISO) that you can change on the fly, and not via camera menus? (You wouldn't want to change the SSpeed anyway.... And for the sake of this discussion, let's pretend we are on the less noisy side of the ISO values). What are the benefits of changing Iris? If you could decide to change Iris vs ISO (which takes me back to "Panasonic: Auto-ISO in Manual Movie Mode, por favor...!!!"), which one would you choose?

Recording GH2 HDMI using MX02 & black magic intensity

Hello All and thank you for having me.

I reall need some help here. I have a Matrox MA02 and a Black Magic Intensity Pro. I also have a 2 x GH2 with the OEM firmware.

I am capturing DIRECTLY to the MX02 and Blakc Magic. 50i, that is what is on the black magic and 25i on the mxo2.

When I play the footage in premier it is all jittey and not smoth at all. If I play the Black Magic footage in windows media player it is very smooth, but no the MX02 footage.

I have read days worth online with the GH2 and using AVISnsyth and that was NO GO..

Please can someone help...... I am bangin my head against a brick wall.

I've searched for answers but came up with nothing, if there is an answer please point me in the right direction and close this thread. Forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong category.

I'm using the GF2 (hacked) for filming with old vintage lenses. I mainly use a Canon FD 50 mm 1,4 and a Canon FD 28 mm f2,8. When I try to shoot wide open the image gets all blown out (of course) and a ND-filter would help me with that. But when I shoot in any of the My colour modes the image is fine.

So what does the My colour mode (except the obvious effects) do that I can't do in manual mode? I know there's no manual controls when recording video so does it really matter what mode I shoot in? I'm thinking that the custom My colour mode (without changing any settings to the colour) is cheaper than a variable ND-filter, if the mode doesn't do something wierd with my video...

Maximum lens weight GH3

What is the maximum lens weight for the GH3? I want to use my old Tokina 28-70 lens with a nikon f adapter as my walk around lens. It weights around 600g (~1,3p). Do you think it is okay for the gh3 body or it is gonna distort/rip the mount? It just feels that the m43 mount is small and weak compared to other mounts.

Focus tips shooting first short with gh2

Hi, I've been using GH2 for a while and have been using Smooth and Nostalgic picture profiles. I thought they were the best in terms of quality. Recently, however, I came across a video by DrewNet who claims that Smooth and Nostalgic are the worst profiles in terms of quality (he says they are the noisiest and least able to pull shadows).

I've been playing around with Vibrant profile and it seems it has a lot more contrast then Smooth and Nostalgic.

What do you guys think?
