Playback Menu Issue

I bought a used GH4 recently. I am having a peculiar issue with the camera. When i scroll down to the PLAYBACK option and then use the right ARROW key to enter the PLAYBACK menu's many options the screen goes black for a second (similar to the black screen delay which happens when we go from the MENU to the LIVE DISPLAY mode which is normal). Also if i go from the Live Display mode to the MENU by clicking the center button and if i had exit the MENU screen last from the PLAYBACK menu then again the slight delay black screen thing will happen if i toggle to the PLAYBACK menu's options. This does not happen when i scroll to the other Options in the menus like SETUP, MOTION PICTURE, CUSTOM etc. or if i enter MENU screen from Live Display mode in these options or Vice Versa. I also updated my firmware to 2.2 but it did not help. And NO, i am not accidentally placing my hand in front of the EVF of the camera which is causing the black out.

Is it some issue with the camera or is there some option in the menu that can fix this? Thanks

GH2 Smudge in EVF.

I picked up my GH2 today, I have had it for about a week. When looking inside the EVF, I saw a brown smudge. It is quite small ( covers about 50 pixels). At first I thought it was just on the outside, so I cleaned the glass. but that did not fix anything. As you can see in the image, the smudge is located in bottom right.

There is also a weird parallax effect with the smudge. Ie if the angle of the eye is not perfectly perpendicular to the glass, 2 smudges appear, 1 infront of the other (that is why there appear to be 2 smudges in the photo) .

How do i get rid of this? Is it a common problem?

GH4 cinema 4K mode non-existent!

I bought a 6 month old used GH4 today. For some strange reason when i switch to the 24hz cinema mode, I get no Cinema 4K or any 4K option!! All i get is the Fulll HD 24fps mode. Also, the AVCHD and MP4 options are greyed out in this mode and i only get the MP4(Lpcm) and MOV modes to select from. I am using fast cards so that is not an issue. I am in Movie Mode. Also, its the same story in MOV (No 4K or C4K option). Does someone know what is happening here?

GH2 Video Settings vs. D5200 Video Settings

This is not intended to ask the question "which is better" or "this is better" - just an observation I've noticed to see if anyone has more ideas of what may be going on. I've been trying to shoot some comparison footage between my GH2 and D5200, both using the stock zoom lens. I'm shooting with shutter priority and shutter speed of 1/50. I did this because I think these were good base settings for 24p / Sanity video recording on my gh2. What I'm getting though on my GH2 is a tremendous amount of noise, even in well-lit indoor scenes - and in low-light (subway) it is almost unbearable. I tried similar settings on my d5200, and the difference is literally night and day. Now I know the d5200 has a toshiba sensor that handles low-light much better, but I feel like there must be something else I'm missing. I keep on trying to pick up my gh2 and shoot video on it, and I feel like in basically every scene the ISO is like off the charts. AFAIK, it also appears that it won't even tell me what ISO it is using, it juts says "auto". Any thoughts or ideas if I'm doing something wrong? Or does the GH2 really require that much additional light.

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out if there is a setting somewhere within the GH2 that switches the screen orientation to be reversed when flipping the LCD around to face towards the talent (same direction as the lens is pointing)?

I've got a camera from someone who shoots vlog-style video all the time and she thinks she bumped a button recently while focusing, making it so that now she sees an inverted image.

I've looked high and low through the camera menus, as well as searched extensively on Google, and I am stumped. Does anyone know if this is a capability the camera has?

LX 100 as an A Camera

It has been many months now since the release.

On paper it has the perfect specs. fast Leica lens, 4K video with 100Mbps bitrate to name a few.

The question in my mind is - Can it really be used as a A camera for broadcast quality documentary production? (I am not concerned about the audio)

So... my LCD got broken, it's not cracked but is clearly damaged with bright colors and back regions. I need to get it fixed.

Anyone replaced a GH3 screen before? I see em on eBay for $50. Or any recommendation of good cheap service in USA?

Hi,

I just received my GH3 from Samys and my FN4 button does not work. I'm think it might be a rare case but since I live abroad and it took two weeks to get it from the US it is pretty annoying. I can still go back in the menu by using the touch screen but it is quit inconvenient.

My question: Did anyone ever came across such an issue with any other DSLR? Is it possible to repair it locally (cheap?) I am not a technician but I am guessing it is either the wiring or a lose contact. So I would like to avoid sending it back/or sending it in to Panasonic for repair. Also: If there is no other solution and I have to send it to panasonic, what are the usual repair times? any experience?

Any advise? Thanks in advance!

Im wondering what settings and pic profile does everyone use? Im guessing cinelike D? im going to film some of the gumball3000 this year and want to know what I should be using since this will be the first time using the gh4 for video work since ive had it.

I have a GX7 and LX100 that I use for stills and video. I'm trying to set it up to allow me to readjust focus using auto-focus (AF-S) when shooting video. When I had my Olympus cameras, it was quite easy to reset the focus automatically when recording was ongoing, but after many tries, I cannot get this functionality working on my Panasonic cameras!

I have AF-S setup to work on the back AF/AE Lock as well as the shutter half-press. It works correctly with both cameras in AF and MF (manual switch) mode BEFORE starting recording, but as soon as I start recording, neither button will cause the camera to refocus.

Under Motion Picture Menu I have: AFS/AFF/AFC : AFS Continuous AF: On

Under Custom: AF/AE Lock : AF-ON Shutter AF : ON Half Press Release : OFF Quick AF : OFF Eye Sensor AF : OFF Focus/Release Priority : RELEASE AF+MF : ON MF Assist : BOTH Constant Preview : ON

First multicam music video using 2 GH4's

I finally got the chance to shoot something that I wanted to for a friend who's brother passed away. He wrote this song in memory of that friend and we went out at 5am to start shooting and came out with this wonderful video.

Gear used: Panasonic GH4 x2 Panasonic 12-35mm Pentax SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4

All shot in 4k UHD and scaled to 1080 in post which allowed for a lot of post zoom/pans, and re-framing!

GH4 Wifi problems, I need help

Hi,

I have the GH4 since well over a year. I tested the Wifi function when I got it and it worked quite well compared to the GH3. Now I had to film some squences on a crane and it would have been nice to use it, but it did not work any more. There were no previous connetions that I had before in the camera any more and when I tried to reconnect, the Panasonic Image App (Iphone 6) did not recognize the QR code and the GH4 did not provide any information (SSID and Password) for manual connection. It does not even provide a device name.

Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

Panasonic GH2 not recognizing SD card

So, I have a problem, and that is that my GH2 will not recognize that there is a card inside of it, no matter what I do. I have tried about 10 different sd cards, ranging from good to bad and small to big. Nothing works. I have even tried licking the card.

Can this possibly be fixed without disassembling the camera, or would it have to be taken apart to be fixed? and if it does have to be taken apart would I end up having to replace the whole main board?

I am incredibly sad about my GH2, so any advice would make me happy. Thanks;)

p.s I will probably only be able to reply tomorrow as it's almost late now.

I love the colors and the detail of the hacked GH1 video, but unfortunately it freezes from time time, which is really annoying. Is there any camera in the GH1 price range that does not freeze and has similar video detail and colors?

I already have a GH3, but find it tricky sometimes to use the rear screen to manual focus accurately. Could be my eyesight is not great, but I also use a loupe and still find the resolution is not conducive to snapping the lens into focus. Is the GH4 screen a big step up in this respect?

Hey all, I'm having an issue with timelapse. I've already setup the menu options according to what I've read and seen online. Then when it's done with the timelapse, the pop up option of converting it to a video doesn't appear.

I've read that a pop up option appears when it's done with the timelapse. Any one familiar have an idea what I might be doing wrong. Or if I'm not setting up the timelape long enough?

Forced to use my GH2 as i broke the flip out screen on my GH4

What a klutz. I managed to drop my GH4 and break the flip out screen, while experimenting on a monopod. What a total dick. So, sent it back to be sorted (thankfully i've got great insurance) i'm hoping it doesn't take too long as i'm shooting in two weeks. So, dusting off the GH2, i have to say the image on the Moon T7 hacked GH2 still looks absolutely marvellous. The grain is there, particularly in low light, but so organic. Yes it doesn't have all the helpful features we now need (peaking, zebras, amazing time-lapse, 4k, curves etc), but the EVF is good and the image with Moon T7 is really really splendid. Will make the weeks go by still able to shoot lovely stuff. I remembered that the GH2 has a 'cine' mode. Forgot about that, never used it as we were all hung up on 'Smooth'.

I've got Aunty Driftwood and Uncle Vitaly to thank for the fact that this auld camera still shoots lovely imagery after all this time. Much obliged.

Motion qualities of Panasonic GH1,2,3,4 series

Greetings all, long time no see or rather.. type.

I got burnt out for a while and am thinking of getting back into things.

I have a GH1h, GH2h, GH3.... and honestly the GH3 had motion characteristics I didn't like compared to the GH1 which was the most filmic and the GH2 hacked which was the most detailed sharpest of the bunch.

I still look back on my Saturday with the the dogs and can't believe the GH1 shot that.

Now it's a bitch to mix these cameras cause the all look different but I have pulled it off. I have used the GH3 least of all.

Is there any point now to go to the GH4 for the supposed 4K (downsampled) editing... or has the time of the dslr faded and should I be looking at something new. I have the 14-140 stock lens (sharp as hell but needs light, the pancake, and to 40-100 panny (which I hate with the more cropped GH3)

Ideas? alternatives? Suicide?

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending a workshop/demo at Panasonic HQ in Toronto. The day was split into 3 separate time slots and I attended the first one. Geared towards people who had never used the GH4 or any of their lenses, I was the only one there who currently used the GH4. It was amazing to see the look on peoples faces though when they handled it for the first time and put the camera through its paces at a variety of different shooting stations.

Upon arriving at Panasonic, attendees were given a brand new Panasonic 16gb uhs 3 card to use in the cameras for the day so that they could go home and work with the files after the fact. Professional photgrapher Johan Sorensen was the lead photographer running the portrait station where they had a live model doing poses and we had the ability to try out the full lineup of lenses they had to offer. It was my first time shooting the Nocticron 42.5 f1.2 and wow was it a great experience. Check out Johan's work at http://www.johanphoto.ca/ where he is now fully using Panasonic cameras for all of his work.

There were stations dedicated to 4k Photo Mode, and macro/still life shooting which was great. I actually tested out the new 30mm f2.8 Macro and WOW it is a seriously sharp lens with the fastest focusing of any Panny lens I've used to date.

I had the chance to chat with them a bit about video as this was more geared towards photography, but they were really interested to hear that people are using the GH4 for video in a professional setting so much. I gave some feedback to them in regards to things I felt were missing and what was great about the camera and everyone was really engaging to hear the feedback.

I also asked about the rumoured AF-200 and got a smile and said they didn't know anything about it so I guess we'll have to wait and see!

I will share some of the photos from the event as soon as I get some edited to show off that new 30mm macro!
