Rockstar Games, the creator of Grand Theft Auto, has made an estimated $5bn in operating profit since the release of Grand Theft Auto V in 2013

Top management got $3.4bn from 2009 to 2019 via bonus payments.

Nice.

Camera managers are much more humble, but you still pay up to 20% of camera price that is various form of payments to them, including bonuses and their stock buybacks (if you also plus here managers of suppliers).

Finally proper and cheap wireless products from lectrosonic http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/21825/finally-proper-and-cheap-wireless-products-from-lectrosonic Mon, 01 Apr 2019 09:25:52 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 21825@/talks/discussions image

Bucking the trend towards making everything smaller and smaller, Lectrosonics is introducing the Big Series™ transmitters. The new BS transmitters boast multiple powering methods for extreme run times and a host of additional advanced features including language translation, on-board high-density data storage, fuzzy logic, artificial intelligence, a neural network, quantum computing, the Internet of Things and much more.

The recently developed Multipower™ module allows a multitude of powering methods including three, four, or six D cell batteries depending on the model, and propane, kerosene, compressed air, and user-cranked flywheel. By offering these various powering methods, users will be able to ensure continuous operation even in remote, undeveloped and inhospitable regions of the world where standard batteries may not be available. Run time with 6 D cell batteries is 48 hours, and with one quart of kerosene or one pound of propane, the BS units can run for 12 hours. If the user cranks the flywheel once every few minutes, continuous operation can be achieved. To keep the weight of these units reasonable, Unobtanium alloy is used for all metal parts.

By employing a neural network using quantum computing and fuzzy logic, the new BS Series transmits and simultaneously translates the incoming dialog or singing into multiple languages in real time with extremely low latency. The units auto-detect the incoming language and then choose the output language based on local area using GPS information crossed with a geolocation database. The optional MultiLanguageDiversity™ module enables multiple languages to be transmitted on several frequencies simultaneously. Latency for the translation and transmission is 0.001 ms.

Information about the detected local language, translations chosen, GPS data and other information, but not audio, are stored on the BS Series units’ 20 TB solid-state drives on board. An IOT interface allows the units to be accessed by smartphone or other IP device from anywhere in the world.

“We realized that we were limiting the functionality and flexibility by making our transmitters so small,” states Karl Winkler, VP of Sales at Lectrosonics. “People want features and so we’ve got ‘em in there! The large size makes just about anything possible.”

Models available include the BSBP (3 D cell) and BSDBP (6 D cell) belt pack transmitters, the BSHH handheld unit, and the BSHM plug-on unit. Available to order now, pre-backordered to April 1, 2020.

Confessions of an ex gear addict http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9421/confessions-of-an-ex-gear-addict- Wed, 22 Jan 2014 12:32:12 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 9421@/talks/discussions

Thank God, I am now a gear minimalist focused on photography and a big fan of Limitation creativity (you are more creative with less)….. But here’s the truth, I used to be a huge gear junkie, basically having GAS as soon as I got a new camera. I had this problem since the very beginning but now I am cured. In one sense I am trying to help those who know they have GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome) to stop having it and trying to prevent others from having it.

I might sound preachy and maybe harsh but please know that I am preaching and being hard on myself first because I wasted a lot of money and time because of my gear addiction. I hope this helps you in some way and I wish someone was there to tell me these things.

We lie best to ourselves, because we believe ourselves. I didn’t need all these cameras but bought them. I had reasons, I told myself, to buy them. I had GOOD reasons too, I told myself, to sell them. The line that always got me was “It’s an investment”, all my cameras were investments in my mind. But investments are worth nothing without commitment. Buying that that 4×5 was “an investment” into my landscape photography. Nevermind that I never really actually took landscape seriously. The only “landscape” I got out of that camera was a scene of an empty school yard at nautical twilight. That shot is still in the readyload sheet. So is my two rolls of 120 film, a bunch of 35mm cans and all of my 110 film canisters.

The truth is we don’t need much gear, only the minimum for what we do. Street Photographers need less than wedding photographers for example. The truth is, there is no perfect camera only compromise. What I think is the best camera might be annoying to you and vice versa. It’s all about dealing with idiosyncrasies. Every camera will have issues but it’s not the end of the world. Just deal with it. Throughout all the years of buying and selling cameras and loosing time and money, I could have been such a better photographer. I wouldn’t understate it if I said all I needed (except for maybe the paid work) for my photography was one camera. My Ricoh GRD IV would have been perfect, but seriously, any camera would have done great, even an obsolete one.

US DHS warn of catastrophic power grid outages http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/21118/us-dhs-warn-of-catastrophic-power-grid-outages Thu, 13 Dec 2018 03:10:31 +0000 jleo 21118@/talks/discussions

In a new report from the President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council and published by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the government is urging the public to prepare for the up to six months without electricity, transportation, fuel, money, and healthcare.

The report, titled Surviving a Catastrophic Power Outage”, warns that an attack would likely come with little to no notice and could cause complete chaos for at least a half a year, “Long-duration, lasting several weeks to months (at least 2 months, but more likely 6 months or more) due to physical destruction to equipment, such as transformers or transmission lines; or the severity of the event resulting in limited workforce to repair damage, or inability to create or transport replacement parts,”

.

draft power outage study from a group of White House advisers calls on the Trump administration to develop incentives for state and local governments to shore up their ability to withstand weeks or months without electricity.

http://governorswindenergycoalition.org/white-house-advisers-warn-of-catastrophic-grid-outages/

The risk posed by a catastrophic power outage, however, is not simply a bigger, stronger storm. It is something that could paralyze entire regions, with grave implications for the nation’s economic and social well-being.

A prior government report also recommended presidential action to protect the grid from attacks.

Failure to maintain technological dominance or freedom of operations in EMS ( Electromagnetic Spectrum) can diminish or stop a modern nation’s broad civil and defense activities. Based on the totality of available data, the task force contends the second- and third-order e ects of an EMS attack may be a threat to the United States, democracy, and the world order.

RIP Stan Lee, Marvel Comics, Marvel Studios http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20875/rip-stan-lee-marvel-comics-marvel-studios Mon, 12 Nov 2018 20:57:28 +0000 jleo 20875@/talks/discussions Stan Lee, the avuncular, controversial longtime writer and publisher of Marvel Comics, died Monday in Los Angeles. He was 95 years old.

Popping a big character death on people like that was just the kind of thing Lee liked. “Stan Lee—dead! No! No, it can’t be!” The man who first understood that with great power there must come great responsibility? The man who alongside comics greats like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko created or co-created basically half of comic-book superhero-dom? Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Iron Man, Black Panther, Thor … I could go on! Lee certainly would have.

https://www.wired.com/story/rip-stan-lee-the-man-who-made-comics-cool/

Working primarily with artist Jack Kirby, Lee — writing as many as a half-dozen titles or more a month — transformed Marvel Comics into a powerhouse, featuring socially relevant stories that spoke to young readers in a way the form hadn’t previously. Those works, largely created during a wildly productive stretch in the early 1960s beginning with Fantastic Four, a squabbling and at times reluctant team of superheroes, were part of what came to be known as the Silver Age of comics.

The titles Lee authored included those featuring Spider-Man (with artist Steve Ditko), the Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, Daredevil, Captain America, and the Avengers — all of which have been turned into major features.
