Mergers: Xerox wants to buy HP, kind of http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22986/mergers-xerox-wants-to-buy-hp-kind-of Wed, 06 Nov 2019 11:02:08 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 22986@/talks/discussions

Xerox Holdings Corp. has set its sights on a takeover of personal-computer and printer maker HP Inc., an audacious move that would unite two fading stars of technology.

Xerox is considering making a cash-and-stock offer for HP, which has a market value of about $27 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. The copier maker’s board discussed the possibility Tuesday, the people said.

With a valuation of $27 billion, HP is worth more than 3x Xerox.

After a recent change at the top ranks, HP said earlier this month that it would implement a restructuring plan that would shrink the company's workforce by 9,000. Merger can triple or even quadruple this number.

The social problems of cinema and music http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23585/the-social-problems-of-cinema-and-music Thu, 27 Feb 2020 11:22:40 +0000 apefos 23585@/talks/discussions the myth of the equipment still occupies the mind of those who dream of making cinema and music. the popularization of low-cost equipment leaves the illusion that everyone who has an idea can produce.

But then the first problem comes up, the money to pay the artists, the stage objects, the clothes, the rent of the places, the transport, the food, the technicians, to find places to work without disturbing people.

And many do not realize that there is a second, even worse problem, the strength of society. An actor with great success in soap operas went to do an autograph session and when talking with a fan got punched in the nose by an unknown man and had to have plastic surgery, it was later discovered that the man was the woman's boyfriend. A group of internet artists made a video with homosexual jesus and maria smoking marijuana, and hooded men threw a molotov cocktail bomb at their office building. A horror film about a girl possessed by the devil left disgruntled religious and she was persecuted throughout her life by these religious fanatics. an actor played a character of a seductive boy who managed to convince girls to have sex with him, had to change countries due to the danger of being attacked. a famous musician loved by multitudes died in the street murdered. black women actresses suffered racist attacks on social networks from people calling them monkeys. a normal girl decided to try to sing on the internet and neighbors made a noise to not let her sleep and she had to move from neighborhood. hese are just some of the cases of social rejection suffered by artists.

envy, jealousy, intolerance, conservatism, selfishness are born in the heart, in the mind, in the soul, in the body chemistry of ordinary people when they perceive the success, the seduction, the different values of the artists. who wants to live close to a beautiful talented person near by taking the risk of being cheated by the husband/wife or having the young son/daughter seduced? and people confuse fiction with reality, thinking that the artist really is the character he plays. Many actors who play villains in soap operas and movies suffer from swearing and aggression on the street. artists are surrounded by security guards and transport themselves in armored cars and need to live in closed condominiums away from popular neighborhoods. People is much more curious about the personal life of the artist instead of about the work of the artist. And people have fun to disturb/muddle. Most times the police do not help artists because they think artists are lustful and drugged, and have ideas against the morals and good customs.

share your thoughts and stories about this, and possible solutions...

Soviet Era Documentary on Afghanistan war http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23376/soviet-era-documentary-on-afghanistan-war Thu, 16 Jan 2020 04:25:58 +0000 eyenorth 23376@/talks/discussions I'm trying to dig up a beautiful documentary film I saw years past, filmed in the Soviet Union portraying soldiers during the occupation of Afghanistan.

I can't for the life of me remember the title, and can't seem to dig it up through searches - so hoping someone might be able to help.

It is a slow-paced film, no narration, just simple, clean compositions of russian soldiers in between combat in Afghanistan. 4:3 format as I remember. Not much in music or dialogue either. Very quiet and beautiful film.

Anybody have an idea?

The UK's biggest high-street camera retailer, Jessops, has gone into administration, putting 192 stores and 2,000 jobs at risk. The company's website is not accepting orders and administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers has said vouchers and returns would not be honoured at present. The company, that has been slow to respond to competition from internet retailers, was rescued in 2009 by HSBC, which bought into the company in return for writing off some of its debts. However, increasingly stringent credit terms imposed by suppliers (a common move when there is doubt surrounding the future of a company), and predictions of further falls in camera sales led to the administrators being called

“Filmmaker Mode™” UHDTV http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22504/filmmaker-mode-uhdtv Thu, 29 Aug 2019 15:59:50 +0000 jleo 22504@/talks/discussions LG Electronics, Panasonic and VIZIO. no Samsung?

Watch your movies and TV shows the way the filmmakers intended. New TV picture mode on supported UHD TVs to preserve creative intent and provide cinematic experience.

Filmmakers, Hollywood Studios, consumer electronics companies and the UHD Alliance have collaborated to make this next-level home theater viewing experience possible. By disabling all post-processing (e.g. motion smoothing, etc.) and preserving the correct aspect ratios, colors and frame rates, Filmmaker Mode enables your TV to display the movie or television show’s content precisely as it was intended by the filmmaker.

Press Release

The UHD Alliance (UHDA) along with leaders in consumer electronics, the Hollywood studios and members of the filmmaking community announced today their collaboration on a new viewing mode for watching movies and episodic TV called “Filmmaker Mode™”.

“When Paul Thomas Anderson, Ryan Coogler, Patty Jenkins, Martin Scorsese, and Christopher Nolan reached out to the UHDA about extending the cinematic experience into the living room, we were eager and ideally situated to engage in the conversation,” said UHD Alliance Chairman, Michael Zink of Warner Bros. “The Ultra HD TVs from supporting CE members are capable of delivering a range of viewing options and the addition of Filmmaker Mode for cinematic content, which is based on input from a broad range of preeminent filmmakers, provides a way for consumers to better experience the filmmaker’s vision.”

Current TVs use advanced video processing capabilities to offer consumers a broad range of options in viewing various types of content, ranging from sports to video games. Filmmaker Mode will allow viewers to enjoy a more cinematic experience on their UHD TVs when watching movies by disabling all post-processing (e.g. motion smoothing, etc.) so the movie or television show is displayed as it was intended by the filmmaker, preserving the correct aspect ratios, colors and frame rates.

“The thing that sets Filmmaker Mode apart is it will be a pure, clean expression of what the movie was meant to look like when it was made,” said Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the soon to be released, Knives Out.

LG Electronics, Panasonic and VIZIO announced support for Filmmaker Mode and expressed their interest in delivering creative intent to the home. Specific product and implementation plans will be announced by each company at the appropriate time.

Like many here i believe that IP is a brake to creativity, technology evolution and human developement. I think it's even anti human, just look at your children in a kindergarten and see how naturally they share, look at how naturally women from different cultures and languages share their food recipes, it seems naive or trivial but truth is IP is pure fruit of capitalism and corporations greed ! Historically, world people shared knowledge, yes sometimes the knowledge spread by wars but mostly it spread by sharing and improvement. What's the meaning to hold a patent and block any further dev on the product ? A patent hold in a safe and protected by lawyers is a seed who has been denied to become a tree... Enjoy the doc ;)
