I've lost 63 pounds and a lot of it muscle. Anyway, today I shot a regulatory meeting with my usual setup. A camera locked on the speaker, B camera locked on the board of directors and a shoulder rig to catch the audience and closups. My shoulder rig is light but I found I was shaking so badly it was unusable. I was able to pan the A camera and still get most of what I wanted though. Next one I guess I'll use the monopod with feet unless someone has a better sugguestion.

IPCC releases latest climate change data. More bad news. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11696/ipcc-releases-latest-climate-change-data.-more-bad-news.- Tue, 04 Nov 2014 03:52:31 +0000 brianl 11696@/talks/discussions

EXCERPT: COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Climate change is happening, it's almost entirely man's fault and limiting its impacts may require reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero this century, the U.N.'s panel on climate science said Sunday.

The fourth and final volume of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's giant climate assessment offered no surprises, nor was it expected to since it combined the findings of three reports released in the past 13 months.

But it underlined the scope of the climate challenge in stark terms. Emissions, mainly from the burning of fossil fuels, may need to drop to zero by the end of this century for the world to have a decent chance of keeping the temperature rise below a level that many consider dangerous.

The IPCC didn't say exactly what such a world would look like but it would likely require a massive shift to renewable sources to power homes, cars and industries combined with new technologies to suck greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

The report warned that failure to reduce emissions could lock the world on a trajectory with "irreversible" impacts on people and the environment. Some impacts already being observed included rising sea levels, a warmer and more acidic ocean, melting glaciers and Arctic sea ice and more frequent and intense heat waves.

"Science has spoken. There is no ambiguity in their message. Leaders must act. Time is not on our side," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said at the report's launch in Copenhagen.

Amid its grim projections, the report said the tools are there to set the world on a low-emissions path and break the addiction to burning oil, coal and gas which pollute the atmosphere with heat-trapping CO2, the chief greenhouse gas.

"All we need is the will to change, which we trust will be motivated by knowledge and an understanding of the science of climate change," IPCC chairman Rajendra Pachauri said.

The IPCC was set up in 1988 to assess global warming and its impacts. The report released Sunday caps its latest assessment, a mega-review of 30,000 climate change studies that establishes with 95-percent certainty that most of the warming seen since the 1950s is man-made. The IPCC's best estimate is that just about all of it is man-made, but it can't say that with the same degree of certainty.

Today only a small minority of scientists challenge the mainstream conclusion that climate change is linked to human activity.

Global Climate Change, a NASA website, says 97 percent of climate scientists agree that warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities.

The American public isn't as convinced. A year-old survey by Pew Research showed 67 percent of Americans believed global warming is occurring and 44 percent said the earth is warming mostly because of human activity. More recently, a New York Times poll said 42 percent of Republicans say global warming won't have a serious impact, a view held by 12 percent of Democrats and 22 percent of independents.

Sleep-deprived delegates approved the final documents Saturday after a weeklong line-by-line review that underscored that the IPCC process is not just about science. The reports must be approved both by scientists and governments, which means political issues from U.N. climate negotiations, which are nearing a 2015 deadline for a global agreement, inevitably affect the outcome.

The rift between developed and developing countries in the U.N. talks opened up in Copenhagen over a passage on what levels of warming could be considered dangerous. After a protracted battle, the text was dropped from a key summary for policy-makers — to the disappointment of some scientists.

"If the governments are going to expect the IPCC to do their job," said Princeton professor Michael Oppenheimer, a lead author of the IPCC's second report, they shouldn't "get caught up in fights that have nothing to do with the IPCC."

The omission meant the word "dangerous" disappeared from the summary altogether. It appeared only twice in a longer underlying report compared to seven times in a draft produced before the Copenhagen session. The less loaded word "risk" was mentioned 65 times in the final 40-page summary.

"Rising rates and magnitudes of warming and other changes in the climate system, accompanied by ocean acidification, increase the risk of severe, pervasive, and in some cases irreversible detrimental impacts," the report said.

World governments in 2009 set a goal of keeping the temperature rise below 2 degrees C (3.6 F) compared to before the industrial revolution. Temperatures have gone up about 0.8 C (1.4 F) since the 19th century.

Emissions have risen so fast in recent years that the world has used up two-thirds of its carbon budget, the maximum amount of CO2 that can be emitted to have a likely chance of avoiding 2 degrees of warming, the IPCC report said.

"This report makes it clear that if you are serious about the 2-degree goal ... there is nowhere to hide," said Alden Meyer of the Union of Concerned Scientists, an advocacy group. "You can't wait several decades to address this issue."

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the report demands "ambitious, decisive and immediate action."

"Those who choose to ignore or dispute the science so clearly laid out in this report do so at great risk for all of us and for our kids and grandkids," Kerry said in a statement.

The IPCC said the cost of actions such as shifting to solar and wind power and other renewable sources and improving energy efficiency would reduce economic growth only by 0.06 percent annually.

Pachauri said that should be measured against the implications of doing nothing, putting "all species that live on this planet" at peril.

The report is meant as a scientific roadmap for the U.N. climate negotiations, which continue next month in Lima, Peru. That's the last major conference before a summit in Paris next year, where a global agreement on climate action is supposed to be adopted.

The biggest hurdle is deciding who should do what. Rich countries are calling on China and other major developing countries to set ambitious targets; developing countries saying the rich have a historical responsibility to lead the fight against warming and to help poorer nations cope with its impacts. The IPCC avoided taking sides, saying the risks of climate change "are generally greater for disadvantaged people and communities in countries at all levels of development."<

Vimeo Video Playback is Choppy http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4289/vimeo-video-playback-is-choppy Sat, 18 Aug 2012 22:36:11 +0000 Roy_Batty 4289@/talks/discussions Has anyone else experienced choppy playback of Vimeo videos? I've tried watching some of the videos someone posted in the "sound" thread. All of the videos are Vimeo embeds, and I can't play any of them cleanly. They seize up and get very choppy, almost to the point where they become a series of stills. It doesn't seem to matter if I allow the video to load before I attempt to play it. I've had a similiar experience with Vimeo videos outside this site as well. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix? I can't seem to find a clear solution anywhere on-line.

By the way, I have a cable broadband connection. I don't think the speed of my connection is the problem. Judging by the boatload of Google links I've found, this is a very common problem with playback of Vimeo links; it's the solution that seems much murkier.

Thanks.

Anyway I am interested in things that might be achievable with the mechanics and processing power of the GH4.

My first thoughts are for the recording of internal 10 bit, could it be done if time restricted? is heat the problem or data? Or is it all down to Panasonic's marketing team and their schedule?

Interested in what other's would like to see come to the GH4?

AVLinux http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13687/avlinux Thu, 10 Sep 2015 10:45:11 +0000 apefos 13687@/talks/discussions First thing about Linux:

Get the distro called AVLinux 6.0.4 while you can...

I downloaded and tested lots of Linux distros pointed by http://www.distrowatch.com and I found AVLinux to be the best one for audio/video/graphics work because it is solid, robust, stable, full of softwares already installed in the live DVD, easy to install, no need updates to work properly, can be installed without internet connection, and has the best kdenlive video editor version, the 0.9.10, the most stable and bug free, and also other useful softwares, handbrake for pulldown removal, blender for video stabilization, can configure keyboard for different languages, has gparted for disk partition, can use ext4 format for better system performance and fast boot, the desktop is lightweight and colors can be configured. It is the most perfect free software bundle for audio/video I could find. And an extra gift: kdenlive can do separate audio sync in timeline, yadif deinterlace, lanczos upscale and firewire capture for old dv/d8/hdv cameras. I am learning how to use these linux softwares and I am amazed by them. I also like gimp, libre office, inkscape and lots of audio softwares which comes in AVLinux... Jack audio and low latency kernel are included for better audio performance with audio interfaces. Synaptic Package Manager can install more software from debian repositories, mypaint, krita, and extcalc are good ones. Not sure but it seems to have drivers for Wacom devices. It can use onboard gpu or nvidia with custom drivers or nvidia drivers. This distro is 32bit, but has pae to use more memory. In terms of free software, I perceived that a stable and well configured 32bit system is better than an unstable and incomplete 64bit system.

If you want free software for audio/video AVLinux 6.0.4 is the way to go:

German movie sets new IMDB score record for eternity! http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13672/german-movie-sets-new-imdb-score-record-for-eternity Mon, 07 Sep 2015 13:36:05 +0000 karl 13672@/talks/discussions Being a German myself, I just have to relay this awesome news to you: A contemporary German movie not only set an unprecedented IMDB score record, it did so by a wide margin, making it not unlikely to stay #1 on this

IMDB list for eternity.

Should I be embarassed that it leads the list of... well... the less appreciated manifestations of moving picture artwork? Not really. With its whopping "1.0" score it (a) correctly indicates the pathetic state of our local movie industry (which certainly does not fall short in terms of technology, given how many succesful international movies are produced here), and (b) it gives honest feed back to what results when a bunch of moronic "Youtube celebrities" collect money from their even more brain-dead followers to expose their lack of ideas, talent, determination, intelligence, and everything else that could make a movie interesting to watch in the cinemas.

This work is so abysmal, it will hardly be beaten by anything intended to be a "trash movie", because to intentionally make a trash movie, you at least need some determination and knowledge about the movie business, something completely absent from this pile of crap.

Ah and please, don't feed the makers egos by watching this. Knocking your forehead to a wall for 90 minutes would be more fun and less painful for sure!

Stock prices around the world continued to plunge on Friday, threatening to end one of the longest bull runs in the history of the United States stock market.

A searing six-year rally in United States stocks had advanced into the summer months, shrugging off challenges like the dispute over Greece’s debt that nearly led to the country crashing out of the euro. But in the last two weeks, world markets tumbled as investors grew increasingly concerned about economic conditions in China, which unexpectedly devalued its currency last week, and the outlook for the economies of other large developing countries.

As the selling accelerated Friday afternoon, some benchmark indexes were at or near 10 percent below their recent peaks — a “correction” in Wall Street parlance. “This is likely going to go down as the first meaningful correction in four years,” said David Rosenberg, an economist and strategist at Gluskin Sheff.

Sell-offs in the financial markets need not cause harm in the real economy. In many cases in the postwar period, the United States stock market has recovered after reacting negatively to problems overseas. Strong employment numbers and other economic indicators suggest that the United States economy remains resilient.

Still, fear in financial markets can feed on itself. And the declines in the markets are coming not only as China struggles, but also as the Federal Reserve is winding down its huge stimulus efforts. Trillions of dollars of cheap money from the Fed has fueled economic growth and helped push markets higher around the world. Now, the question is whether the world can stay on the recovery path without the Fed’s largess.

Such concerns on Friday helped push stocks far below the peaks they reached just weeks ago when investors were ebullient. The Dow Jones industrial average is more than 10 percent below the high it reached in May. At Friday’s close, the index was down 530.94 points, to 16,459.75, a loss of 3.1 percent on the day.

The Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index, a broader benchmark, fell below the psychologically important 2,000 mark. It was down 3.2 percent on the day and more than 7 percent below its recent peak. It fell 64.84 points, to 1,970.89. The index lost $1.14 trillion in value this week, according to S.&P.

How Much Would it Cost to Build a Camera? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13560/how-much-would-it-cost-to-build-a-camera Sun, 16 Aug 2015 05:44:35 +0000 babypanda 13560@/talks/discussions Could you build your own camera? And would you want to?

It will definitely cost more like $100K ... So, while the incredible level of integration in electronics is largely responsible for the rapid recent developments in professional video cameras, I don't think we're going to see a proliferation of generic camera camera brands posing a threat to the existing, well known, manufacturers.

mobile phones and action cams...

That's right - you can have your own phone designed an in production for as little as $1000, if you go to the right place in China. And these phones won't be rubbish. They may lack some of the finesse of the larger manufacturer's phones, but they will look and feel essentially as good.

How is this possible?

It's because modern phones are largely made from commoditised components and software. While it's true that the supergiants of the phone industry - Apple, Samsung for eg - rely on their own innovations in design and spec for their flagship products, these quickly get cloned and made available for anyone who wants to make their own versions.

The parts that make up a phone are now so easily available that, according to a recent article in Bloomberg, customers can pick and choose from a range of standardised components and put their own phone together for as little as $1000.

Let's say you want to sell an action cam, not because you really want to be in the camera business, but because you want to have a quintessentially cool product associated with your brand. Do a quick search on alibaba.com and you'll find dozens of "no-name" action cams - some bearing a strong resemblance to the well-known names! You can easily imagine how you could have one of these designs make with your own branding. How good are they? Probably not bad, because they will have access to many of the same components you'll find in the top named brands.
