Take Apart GH1 LCD for External Monitor

Hi,

I searched around but did not find an answer for this. Has anyone tried this?

Basically, take apart the LCD on the GH1 and use the cabling or wiring to attach it to an external monitor.

I don't need HD output, I just want it for framing purposes when the GH1 is placed on a small crane.

Or has anyone physically taken apart the LCD?
Is there a tear down of the GH1 somewhere? (I googled but did not find it)
If so, were you able to put it back together?
Was the wiring plug and play or was the wiring soldered in?

Is there some other way to do external monitoring while recording if the camera is a small distance away, like on a crane?
I have read ideas about using a small cheap camera and film the lcd.

Remote monitoring for GH1/2

Hi!

The last bit for my steadycam I need, is a way to monitor the actual picture (framing and focus). I could go by only setting up a small monitor on the rig via HDMI, but remote focus operated by someone else would be much better.

So, I thought about going all wireless.

Option A:
Keeping my GH1, putting a small camera right on the view finder and adding a wireless video transmitter. This could be SD or HD.

Option B:
Get a GH2 and get some HDMI transmitter.

To view the picture, I would set up one monitor with receiver or via cable on the steadycam rig (for the steadycam operator) and one coupled with a remote focus controll extra.

I would also go with a b/w camera, if the IQ is better than with a colour camera, as I heard to focus (and light a scene) is much easier in b/w. The transmitter only needs a reliable range of 10m (no walls in between), which should be no problem.

Now comes the hard part: Besides working out how to remotely control a motor driving the focus gear I will have to find a small camera and/or transmitter that fits my needs.

1) What do you think about the idea at all?

2) Do you think using a video camera on the EVF will work? Will SD be good enough? Knows anybody a decent video camera with good IQ to do this?

3) 720p50 on the GH2 is still not working if a HDMI device is connected, right? (That would be a problem for me.) Do we get some analog output when recording in 720p50?

4) Has anybody a good guide on how to built your own wireless motor controll? (I think a stepper motor will be the best way to get precise focus controll)

Has anyone tried this (apparent Zacuto knockoff) viewfinder? I stumbled across it yesterday and the price is certainly right, but there's no mention of it on the other camera forums I read. I'm not sure if that's because it's considered taboo to discuss these derivative products, or if it's just not very good. You can buy one on Amazon at the moment (or eBay) for about $120.

Edit: Not sure how to get the image working up there. Use html :-)

Hello everybody
First of all thanks to Vitaliy for everything. Take your time. It will be great.

I have a GH2 with a set of old Russian Lomo anamorphic lenses.
Does any of you know a HDMI onboard monitor with a setting to desqueeze the anamorphic picture to proper 1:2.35 format for viewing?

I know the Zacuto EVF can do this. But is there a cheaper option?

I will be happy about any hints.
