Century anamorphic lens, how to get better image quality. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5935/century-anamorphic-lens-how-to-get-better-image-quality. Mon, 28 Jan 2013 17:32:26 +0000 gh2hacked 5935@/talks/discussions Alot of peoples are using the Century anamorphic lens also refer to as Century 16:9 ratio converter. So, I thought I share a little discovery that can help you get better image quality out of this lens. The Century anamorphic lens in my opion has better center sharpness than the La7200. It is lighter, smaller, and has better build quality. What is so interesting about this lens is that it is one of the very few anamorphic lens that allows you to use with wide angle lens of 30mm or less. It has a stretch factor of 1.33x. Making it very ideal for cameras that has 16:9 censors. It one major draw back is the blurry edge. The blurry edge kind of kills everything so great about this lens. Although, not much of a problem if you film indoor and work your scenes. Sometime the blurry edge can enhance the shallow depth of field. So, how do we overcome this flaw? To overcome this problem, I have discover that if you attach a +1 diopter in front of the Century, the blurry edge are gone. Now, you can focus the image as close as 1.5 feet. Infinity focus is not being affect at all! I guess the original design is for a small censor size camera and the +1 diopter seem to fix all the problems. Now the Century is back in the game for me and hopefully it will for you too! I hope everyone found this article helpful and please share your though and comments.

Does anybody know the display diameters of the Kinetal, and has someone tried em on the GH2?

Looking for zoom lens recommendation with requirements http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6111/looking-for-zoom-lens-recommendation-with-requirements Wed, 13 Feb 2013 21:43:28 +0000 super_spyder 6111@/talks/discussions Hey there I'm looking for a recommendation for a zoom lens with the following things, but am having a hard time finding it. This is going to be used with a Preston FI+Z or C-Motion unit on an FS700, possibly with a speedbooster if it is a FF lens.

-Hard stops on zoom and focus, most likely a manual lens. I'd be afraid of breaking an AF lens even if it has hard stops.

-Zoom and focus rings can't change position while zooming or focusing

-Must be in the "normal" to wide range on the wide end, so anything with a 17 or 24 or 28 or 35 on the wide end. I don't care much about the long end.

-Constant aperture, is a major plus.

I do not need constant volume on the lens, or anything very fast.

Any help would be appreciated.

Voigtländer Nokton 42.5mm f/0.95 double http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6079/voigtlaender-nokton-42.5mm-f0.95-double Sun, 10 Feb 2013 10:00:49 +0000 joe1946 6079@/talks/discussions Voigtländer has announced the Nokton 42.5 mm f/0.95 lens for Micro Four Thirds mount. The lens features 11 elements in 8 groups and 10 aperture blades for smooth bokeh. At 42.5mm, the lens will offer an equivalent field of view of 85mm on a Micro Four Thirds camera thanks to the 2x crop factor – making it a potentially great portrait lens for cameras like the Olympus OM-D E-M5.

The lens should be available in Summer 2013 with no price yet announced. Based on the price points of the Nokton 25mm f/0.95 and the 17.5mm f/0.95 for Micro Four Thirds, I would guess that a $1200-$1300 street price would be expected for the 42.5mm f/0.95 when it finally ships. http://www.photographybay.com/2013/02/10/voigtlander-nokton-42-5mm-f0-95-announced-for-micro-four-thirds-cameras/

I bought with my GH2 and already own a SLR Magic HyperPrime 12mm/f1.6 and an old Canon 50mm (with adaptor about 70mm)/f1.4 lens. Both never let me down. What I'm currently looking for is a lens for most kind of shots that would be between 20mm and 30mm (so finally more or less 50mm equivalent). I've already read about the 20mm/f1.7 Pancake from Panasonic (40mm equivalent and not thaaat a big difference to 12mm) and the Sigma 30mm (adaptor needed, so it would actually be about 80mm then)/f1.4 but still have absolutely no idea which one to choose... I've heard about the Voigtländer 25mm/f0.95, but that's far too expensive.. What is important to me: - fast lense - nice bokeh (that might match the 12mm HyperPrime a bit) - more or less 50mm equivalent, even with adaptor - max. price ~ 500 € (!)

Thank you in advance Simon

Real stops (T-stops) tested for a few lenses http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5767/real-stops-t-stops-tested-for-a-few-lenses Sun, 13 Jan 2013 14:09:21 +0000 nomad 5767@/talks/discussions I had the opportunity to put a cine Distagon, the Arri/Zeiss 40mm 2.1 T, on my GH2 today and thought I'd check a few of my stills lenses against it for exposure.

The results are interesting: while I thought that all marked F-stops would be slower than the marked T-stops, this is wrong!

All lenses were slower in T-stops when wide open, but starting from the first stop closed down, the values were constantly identical to the F-stops (within an error margin well below one third stop).

One example: the Minolta Rokkor 58mm f1.2 (aka Bokeh-Monster) has a T-stop of 1.4 (true speed) wide open. At f2.0 the value is identical to the lens with the marks in T-stops. This was the same on all the lenses I tested, a few Minoltas, Zeiss Contax and one Voigtländer. OK, not a scientific test, but good enough for me. For most practical purposes I can consider my lenses closed down as marked like T-stops, only the WO values are exaggerated.

Voigtländer 25mm @ f0.95 is a T 1.1.5 Minolta Zoom @ f3.5 is a T 3.8 Both Rokkor PG and Contax Zeiss @ f1.4 are T 1.6 Even the Rokkor 28mm @2.0 is a T 2.1

Thought some might find this useful…

Is a cheap 28mm lens suitable for filming with GH2 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5740/is-a-cheap-28mm-lens-suitable-for-filming-with-gh2 Thu, 10 Jan 2013 15:57:52 +0000 FilmCat 5740@/talks/discussions Hi,

I have recently invested in a GH2, it's hacked and ready to go, I didn't think It would get me into photography as much as it has! But I bought it especially for my film projects.

I'm 17 and shoot small scale short films when I can. I previously used a sony A1E HDV camcorder and so focusing was nothing of an issue.

I have the 14-42mm lens and focusing well is an issue, the auto-focus from what I have seen using the camera simply isn't suitable for film projects (this is what had expected). So as this lens is not a an option for pulling focus as there is no direct-drive focus I have bought a nikon adapter to use a 50mm 1.4 (lovely) lens I have and shoots great and I am able to pull focus but it is simply cropped far too much so I assume a 28mm will fix the cropping issue. I also already have a canon EOS adaptor for the GH2.

My question is: Should I buy a cheap but sharp 28mm lens from ebay with a smooth direct drive focus ring and use this to pull focus (as I believe 28mm will produce the best results as anything shorter would distort the image?) when shooting or is there a better option?

I've done some searching for answers but nothing conclusive, my budget is at most £100 for a lens.

Thank you very much for any help, Max Herman.
