GH2/Bmcc anamorphic lens http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10625/gh2bmcc-anamorphic-lens Tue, 17 Jun 2014 22:54:42 +0000 raf702 10625@/talks/discussions Hey all, I seem to have an issue in regards to my Isco anamorphic 2x lens. I have both a GH2 and a BMCC-EF, and when I use my Auto Chinon 35mm and Isco 2x I get no vignetting on the BMCC. BUT, on my GH2 with the same setup, I get very noticeable vignetting.

Any ideas, or reasons why this is happening? I want to use a wide prime on the GH2 with a 2x anamorphic without any vignetting.

I appreciate anyones help. Thanks!

Panasonic 20mm f/1.7, 14.5mm f/2.5 or Samyang 16mm f/2.0? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10570/panasonic-20mm-f1.7-14.5mm-f2.5-or-samyang-16mm-f2.0 Mon, 09 Jun 2014 18:48:46 +0000 brant_moore 10570@/talks/discussions Does anyone have experience with all three of these lenses that can chime in on what might work best for me.

The lens I purchase will be for the gh4 and gh2 to be used in a factory setting as well as action sports on a daily basis. I need something wide and fast. Autofocus isn't a deal breaker so the Samyang isn't out just for its lack there of. Autofocus is nice, but if the Samyang is superior enough I can deal without it. I will also use this lens for interviews occasionally. Just looking for a professional opinion for a the best quality all around lens that is wide and fast.

Right now I have the 14-42mm, Samyang 7.5mm and a 50mm f/1.4 Nikon with adapter. Im trying to stick around 300-400$ and willing to buy another adapter, so if there is another lens in this area please bring it up.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Source for replacement parts for Rokinon 85mm Cine? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10488/source-for-replacement-parts-for-rokinon-85mm-cine Thu, 29 May 2014 12:40:54 +0000 Sangye 10488@/talks/discussions So I bought a Rokinon 85mm Cine for Nikon on eBay last year for an absurdly low price, but it has a broken aperture mechanism. The internal components work fine, but the mechanism that connects the aperture to the external control on the rear element, as well as to the actual aperture ring, are broken. When I got it the aperture ring and rear aperture control worked, but it wouldn't open past around f/2.8. After taking it apart and tinkering with it, I got it to stay open at f/1.4, but in the process I lost control through the aperture ring, and can only adjust it by taking the lens off and manually moving the lever on the Nikon mount. I think some of the parts are bent, and the spring doesn't have enough tension to overcome that resistance and close the shutter back down again.

Basically, I need a new rear Nikon mount, and the parts to replace the mechanism that connects the rear mount to the internal aperture control rod / lever thing. My guess is it's the same parts as I would need, if I wanted to convert a 85mm Cine for Canon to Nikon. Just the parts that have to do with Nikon.

People here seem pretty clever, and savvy to sources for obscure asian camera technologies, direct from the manufacturers. Wondering, if anyone happens to know where I could find these replacement parts? Google hasn't turned up anything yet.

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 front element problems http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10444/canon-ef-16-35mm-f2.8-front-element-problems Sat, 24 May 2014 11:24:56 +0000 bonini12 10444@/talks/discussions Hello all.

Recently I bought a second-hand Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L USM (Mk1). I could see it was pretty much used, but the image quality and sharpness seemed OK, and the price was good. Well, I could see some semi-transparent specks on the front element, but I thought they were stains of some kind that will go off with the cleaning. And even if they don't - I thought - some front element blamishes should not effect the image quality... Unfortunately, I was wrong in both.

R.O.R. doesn't clean the specks, nor isopropyl alcohol, not even acetone (used carefully on the spot).

Do the specs affect the images? Well, yes. Especially in high contrast situations, and against strong sources of light there's much light dispersion and even light stains visible around light sources or objects reflecting strong light. This makes the lens practically useless for night photography, as the light helos/stains around street lamps etc. are just too strong.

In normal or low contrast, the stains become visible only when stopped down to F10-11 or more.

Is there anything I can do for this lens? Is it possible that the AR coating might be peeling off in those places? Could it look like that? Otherwise the lens is OK - the rear element and the inner elements (judging by a thorough inspection with a torch) seem totally OK, the images come out very sharp and all the mecanisms (AF, zoom, etc.) work fine.

========================================

Another problem is that there's some light dispersion overall ("softness", but not related to sharpness), visible at 100% magnification - not only where the stains are, but around any lit objects. Could this be related to quite a bit of dust particles visible behind the front element when I pass through the torch light? I unscrewed the plastic lid around the front element (by 2 little holes in it) to clean the front element, but - unlike with other lenses, the front element doesn't come out easily. Looks like it's hold by 3 locks that I marked on the 3rd pic. Any suggestion to how to open the locks?

I've read somewhere that after removing the front element on this lens, it needs recalibrating. Is it true, and is it possible to do at home?

Please have a look at the pics: http://s1273.photobucket.com/user/bonini12/media/_MG_8005-2_zps90d4ca68.jpg.html?sort=6&o=0

The Zuiko 12mm its good for still, but more expensive. The Rokinon have little tests and dont speak so well.

Does APS-C glass vignette on GH2 + Speedbooster? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8807/does-aps-c-glass-vignette-on-gh2-speedbooster Sun, 17 Nov 2013 22:12:26 +0000 Sangye 8807@/talks/discussions I just sold my Voigtlander and ordered a Nikon-MFT Speedbooster, and am planning on buying a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 to use with it. However, I just ran the math and am a little confused.

If the crop factor on the GH2 is 1.86, and the MBSB effectively reduces the crop factor by 0.71, then the new virtual crop factor should be 1.86*0.71 = 1.32. 1.32 is more like APS-H size, not APS-C. Doesn't that mean APS-C glass will vignette?

Another way to look at it would be to begin with the Nikon APS-C crop size, 1.5, and divide it by the MBSB coefficient, 0.71. This returns 2.11. If my math and my understanding is correct, that's the maximum sensor size, expressed as a crop factor of full frame, that a APS-C Lens with a Speedbooster should cover. So it should cover the BMCC, but not the GH2.

Am I thinking about this right, and will I encounter significant vignetting if I tack an 18-35 with a MBSB onto my GH2?

Nikon AI(S) vs Canon FD for Video (GH2, GH1)? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/384/nikon-ais-vs-canon-fd-for-video-gh2-gh1 Thu, 14 Jul 2011 22:18:06 +0000 qwerty123 384@/talks/discussions
The pricing of these lenses seems to be getting closer by the day (FDs seemed to be cheaper a few years ago). But apart from the way the focus turns, is there much of a difference between these lens lines for video work?

Specifically, I'm interested in IMAGE QUALITY / DIFFERENCES.

I've heard some people say they like the contrast and rendition of Canon FDs (Hunter Richards, I think), and that Canons tend to be a little "warmer" in color than Nikons. Wouldn't white balancing cancel out that effect?

(I know that there is the L series of FD... but we can leave that issue to the side unless you think it is important.)]]>

I primarily do video. I have three native MFT lenses: Panasonic 25mm f/1.4, 14mm f/2.5, and 14-140mm f/4.0-5.6. I have done a lot of searching about the Metabones Speed Booster but want some confirmation if I should go ahead and get one. I really like Nikkor AIS lenses and am wondering if it would be wise to invest in a set of AIS lenses (and possibly some others) and a Speed Booster rather than more native MFT glass.

The reasons I want the Speed Booster are pretty obvious: extra stop of light, wider viewing angle... But I want to know if it's really worth it. Will it actually make my lenses look better? I really want to know what the downsides are. Are there GH2/3 shooters who use the Speed Booster exclusively?

I'd really appreciate any pointers or discussion on this.

Using focal reducers with GH1/2 and old lenses? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/577/using-focal-reducers-with-gh12-and-old-lenses Wed, 03 Aug 2011 15:24:12 +0000 Psyco 577@/talks/discussions
As I dont like the result of using wide angle adapters and it is not easy to find cheap bright and wide lenses, I did some tests with a focal reducer.

The idea is, to use the much bigger image circle of the full frame lenses and squeeze it onto the m4/3 sensor. As a result this would give more light and more angle of view. As there is enough space between the backend of the lens and the image sensore, it would be possible to modify this cheap adapters (like Nikon/Canon/.. to m4/3 adapters you find on ebay) to fit a focal reducer in it. This would not only set the angle of view back to what you will get on a full frame DSLR, but also brighten the image by the same factor!

After some testing with my GH13, Antares 0.5x 2" focal reducer and Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm f1:1.4 ...
image

Test Image without reducer at high F-stop (sorry for the boring subject;-):
image

Same lens, high F-stop, same setup but WITH focal reducer:
image
Obviously, the field of view is wider - just not as much as I like it to be. But a "stronger" focal reducer might solve that problem. The image is also brighter - in this case I used a different shutter speed - which was pretty much what I expected.

But as we all know, high F-stops are not what we want. Same setup, same lens without focal reducer, but at F1.4:
image

And finally the lens at F1.4 WITH focal reducer:
image
Wider field of view, brighter image but horrible IQ. The white glow is known as coma (thanks to hopeless_4ever for that information).

There are also coma correctors out there, but there is not enough space between the lenses to fit one of these also in there.

Bitcrusher did some very interesting tests with the rear element of a Tokina lens. Hopeless_4ever also pointed out, that Olympus did reworked some lenses with focal reducers to fit m4/3 - so, it is possible.

These last bits of information point in a promising direction, but there is still a lot of things to test and think of.

If we could find a setup to project the full frame image circle in good quality onto the m4/3 sensor, we wouldn't need the crop mode on the GH2 and the tiny c-mount lenses or buy the very expensive m4/3 lenses...

...but the ultimate goal would be a 1.5x anamorphic focal reducer - small, not as expensive as a full lens and the choice of the main lens would still be up to us!

Hopefully someone has a good idea, as how to proceed from here. Focal reducers with stronger light bending exist, but without solving the coma-problem, that doesn't get us closer to something usefull.
