FUJIFILM North America Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the FUJINON XF10-24mm F4 R OIS WR Lens, the 36th interchangeable lens designed for Fujifilm's X Series digital camera system. The lens, an update to the current FUJINON XF10-24mm F4 R OIS Lens, also features significant design and usability updates.

The new XF10-24mm F4 R OIS WR Lens is an ultra-wide zoom lens covering focal lengths from 10mm to 24mm (equivalent to 15mm-36mm in the 35mm format). "XF10-24mm F4 R OIS WR packs many updated features including an f-stop scale on its aperture ring, an Auto-position lock, and a new weather-resistant design," said Victor Ha, senior director of marketing and product development for FUJIFILM North America Corporation. "We're confident that this lens will be a top choice among landscape and nature photographers who need an ultra-wide angle zoom lens designed to withstand the elements."

Additionally, the internal structure has been redesigned to make the focus and zoom rings slimmer, giving the XF10-24mm F4 R OIS WR lens a lower overall weight than its predecessor by 25g (.88 oz). Also, Optical Image Stabilization has been extended in the new version by 1 stop, bringing the total stabilization effect of the new lens to 3.5 stops.

The new lens utilizes the same optical design from the original XF10-24mm OIS Lens to provide similar image-resolving performance and also has a maximum aperture of F4.0 across the zoom lens' entire focal length range.

Main product features

A new, weather-resistant design and usability updates

  • Updated aperture ring with f-stop scale and Auto-position lock
    The aperture ring of the new XF10-24mmF4 R OIS WR lens has been updated with an f- stop scale to allow photographers to visually check what aperture the lens is set to, eliminating the need to check through the camera's EVF or LCD Display. The ring also features an Auto-position lock, similar to that found on Fujifilm's GF lenses, which is designed to prevent unexpected aperture ring movements, and ultimately ensure the photographer's shooting efficiency.
  • Added weather-resistance features
    This new lens is both dust and moisture resistant, is able to operate in temperatures as low as 14°F (-10° C) and weighs 0.88 ounces (25 grams) less than the previous model, despite the addition of the weather resistant features.
  • Improved optical image stabilization
    A new, sophisticated gyro sensor used in this lens improves image stabilization by 1.0 stop from the previous model, to 3.5 stops. When used with a new X Series camera, like FUJIFILM X-T4, the lens and camera work together to achieve approximately 6.5 stops of 5-axis image stabilization.

Optical design that delivers advanced image resolving performance

  • The new lens consists of 14 lens elements, including four aspherical elements and four extra-low dispersion elements, in 10 groups. The aspherical elements are designed to minimize spherical aberration, field curvature and distortion, while the extra-low dispersion elements are designed to correct chromatic aberration, delivering crisp, edge- to-edge sharpness. Despite its compact form factor, the lens can maintain the maximum aperture of F4.0 across its focal length range from the ultra-wideangle 10mm to wide- angle 24mm (equivalent to 15mm -- 36mm in the 35mm format), while still allowing users to keep a constant f-stop value at any focal length.
  • The front lens element is carefully coated to minimize ghosting, which tends to occur with the extremely concave elements normally found on an ultra-wide angle zoom lens, to give a high level of image sharpness and clarity.
  • With a minimum working distance of just 24cm (9.5in), the lens is also suitable for macro-style photography. Use the lens to close in on a subject while also taking in the background at the same time, thereby creating powerful images that take maximum advantage of the available ultra-wideangle focal lengths.

Fast and near-silent autofocus (AF)

  • The use of lightweight focusing elements and a high-precision motor allows for fast and near-silent AF, even when using it with an X Series cameras' Face / Eye AF functions.

Pricing and Availability

The new FUJINON XF10-24mmF4 R OIS Lens is expected to be available in the U.S. and Canada markets commencing November 2020. Pricing for the lens will be at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $999.95 USD and $1,349.99 CAD.

The APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH.: A state-of-the-art, wide-angle lens for the Leica SL-System

Leica Camera is delighted to launch the first true wide-angle lens for the SL-System, the APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH. This latest addition joins the APO-Summicron-SL series – a lens range renowned for its fast, top-level optical performance and reliable autofocus.

Joining the existing focal lengths of 35, 50, 75 and 90mm in the series, the APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH. features the same dimensions and filter size as its relatives. Its angle of view makes the lens particularly suitable for reportage, interior and architectural photography.

Both the construction and the design of the cutting-edge Summicron-SL series represent the next step forward in the development of lenses for the Leica SL-System. New, extremely precise manufacturing methods and measuring technologies have been developed specifically for the production of these lenses – resulting in more compact dimensions and a considerably lower weight, as well as a truly outstanding imaging performance.

In the construction of the APO-Summicron-SL lenses, particular attention was paid to the prevention of stray light and reflections. In addition to optimising the optical and mechanical design, the developers also reduced unavoidable reflections to an absolute minimum by applying a high-quality coating to the lens surfaces. Thanks to their effective sealing against dust, moisture and water spray, as well as the Aquadura coating of the exposed lens surfaces, these extremely durable lenses can be used in almost any weather conditions without any reason for concern.

As is generally the case with Leica lenses, the maximum aperture is synonymous with the effective aperture. Its maximum aperture – which is large for this focal length and can be used without any loss of image quality – offers additional creative possibilities through the controlled application of sharpness and blur. Consequently, there is no need to stop down to increase the image quality – instead, reducing the aperture is only necessary for compositional purposes. Natural skin tones, soft transitions into bokeh, exceptionally contrast-rich details and edge-to-edge sharpness across a distortion-free image: these qualities are very much the norm for Leica lenses. Thirteen lens elements (three of which feature aspherical surfaces on both sides) in ten groups contribute to a maximum level of image quality even at a wide open aperture.

The APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH. is further distinguished by its apochromatic correction, which is a notable feature in a lens of this focal length. To ensure the optimal correction of chromatic aberrations, the majority of the grouped lens elements feature anomalous partial dispersion and are made of high-quality, specialist glass types whose construction is so elaborate that even Leica’s most innovative production methods are utilised to every inch of their capacity.

The autofocus drive of all Summicron-SL lenses employs extremely robust and high-performance stepping motors with DSD® (Dual Syncro Drive™). This enables the AF to travel the entire focusing range in around 250 milliseconds. At the same time, Leica Camera also takes an innovative approach to manual focusing technology: Summicron-SL lenses feature an entirely new manual focus ring construction in the form of an embedded ring magnet with alternating north-south polarisation. When the ring is turned, the magnetic field changes its polarity. A sensor monitors the status of the magnetic field and sends the data to the main processor. The drive then shifts the lens to the corresponding focusing position based on the angle of rotation and the rotational speed – this, in turn, enables even faster and more precise manual focusing.

Thanks to the L-Mount standard, the APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH. is equally compatible with cameras made by other partners of the L-Mount Alliance that have been equipped with the Leica-developed lens mount.

The Leica APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH is available now at the Leica retail stores (book your virtual appointment here) or online at store.leica-camera.com/uk

  • MC RUBINAR 500/8 Macro
  • MC RUBINAR 500/5.6 Macro
  • MC RUBINAR 300/4.5 Macro

Moscow, February 01, 2021 Press Release

The line is represented by lenses with focal lengths of 300, 500 and 1000 mm, which are suitable for creative and astronomical photography. The developers of Shvabe Holding Company of Rostec State Corporation have updated the design and improved technical characteristics.

MC Rubinar 10/1000 Macro, MC Rubinar 8/500 Macro, MC Rubinar 5,6/500 Macro and MC Rubinar 4,5/300 Macro are now on sale. The new versions of these devices got a redesigned lens hood, improved matte inner surfaces, and enlightened optical details – which is especially relevant for digital photography.

The metal body is not made from a tube, but milled from a billet. Such a solution ensured a higher manufacturing accuracy and stability of the optical circuit during operation. The Lytkarinsky Optical Glass Plant (LZOS) of Shvabe, which developed the products, notes: at the moment Rubinar is the only serial mirror-lens lens in Russia with such characteristics.

“The lenses have become more modern in their new guise and have gained a number of advantages. For example, creative people will enjoy bokeh in the form of rings and macro mode. At the same time, our specialists retained the M42 mount thread for greater unification with all existing mounts through simple and inexpensive adapters. Currently, the first production batch has been manufactured,” noted Alexander Ignatov, LZOS General Director. For astrophotographers, LZOS developers offer an additional service of lens adjustment “MS Rubinar 10/1000 Macro”. This model is suitable for photographing the surface of the Moon, stars and planets of the Solar System.

The NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct that Nikon is currently developing will be a large aperture, standard 58 mm prime focal-length, the fastest lens in Nikon’s history*, manual-focus lens positioned at the very top of the S-Line. It will symbolize the Nikon Z mount system’s new dimension in optical performance.

It has inherited the design concept behind the original AI Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/1.2, a standard prime lens released in 1977, named for “Nocturne” (a musical composition inspired by or evocative of the night), and popular for its ability to finely reproduce point light sources as point images. This new Noct lens that is currently in development will take advantage of advanced design flexibility, afforded by the Z mount, pursuing ultimate optical performance. Development continues with the goals of achieving an extremely fast maximum aperture of f/0.95, offering the ultimate in NIKKOR rendering performance with superior detail and sharpness. Additionally, the goal is to achieve beautiful blur characteristics, or bokeh, with good continuity, while ensuring outstanding point-image reproduction capabilities for more compelling, three-dimensional imaging.

Video-Friendly Lenses for Lumix DSLRs http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/859/video-friendly-lenses-for-lumix-dslrs Mon, 05 Sep 2011 14:46:59 +0000 LPowell 859@/talks/discussions

* Stabilization and control of camera movement
* Matte box shading of camera lens
* Direct, tactile control of lens aperture
* Follow focus control of lens focus

Lenses that adapt well to these requirements will possess a combination of subtle features that are often omitted from manufacturers' data sheets and overlooked in published reviews. While vintage lenses provide full manual controls, their compact, old-school design often makes them unsuitable for use on a rig. At the other extreme, modern trends in auto-focus lens design have eliminated a number of manual lens features that remain essential to videographers. In many cases, the most usable lenses for video come from early generations of auto-focus lenses that combined vintage manual controls with modern lens design.

Here's my list of features that make a lens video-friendly:

* Manual aperture ring
* Direct-coupled focus ring
* Proper focus ring rotation
* Non-rotating outer barrel (internal focus)
* Non-extending outer barrel (internal zoom/focus)
* Constant field of view
* Constant f-stop aperture
* Rotational zoom ring

While few lenses possess all the above features, a good video lens will make up for any deficiencies with solid performance in other aspects.

* Manual aperture ring

Lenses that lack a manual aperture ring are problematic for video.

Vintage manual-focus lenses all have manual aperture rings, and most can be set to an auto-iris mode for in-camera control of aperture in shutter-priority mode. Many auto-focus lenses have eliminated the manual aperture ring, relying entirely on camera controls to set aperture in manual mode. This includes all Lumix, Zuiko Digital, Canon EOS, and Nikon G-type auto-focus lenses, as well as most currently manufactured lenses by Tokina, Tamron, and Sigma.

* Direct-coupled focus ring

Lenses with an electronic focus ring are problematic for video.

While all auto-focus lenses can be manually focused, not all of them are truly manual. The focus rings on Lumix, Zuiko Digital, and many Sigma HSM lenses are not directly coupled to the lens' internal focusing mechanisms. As a result, their focus rings continue to rotate uselessly beyond max and min focus limits. Lenses like this cannot be used on rigs with follow focus attachments, since focus ring position is completely uncalibrated.

* Proper focus ring rotation

Lenses with contrary focus ring rotation are problematic for video.

When mounted on a rig with a follow focus attachment, the focus ring rotation of the lens will determine the rotation direction of the follow focus wheel. Regardless of which side of the lens the FF wheel is mounted on, it's important that focus-pulling direction be consistent among all lenses used on the rig.

With Lumix, Zuiko, EOS, and Sigma lenses, infinity focus is at the counter-clockwise end of focus ring rotation. With Nikon and Pentax lenses, infinity focus is at the clockwise end of focus ring rotation. Tokina, Tamron, and Samyang/Rokinon lenses are usually built with the appropriate focus ring rotation for each type of lens mount. Sigma lenses, however, always rotate in the Lumix direction, regardless of the lens mount. For follow focus use, I prefer lenses that rotate in the Nikon direction because it pulls focus closer as I rotate the FF wheel toward me.

* Non-extending outer barrel

Lenses with an extending outer barrel are problematic for video.

Most zoom lenses, both manual and auto-focus, are designed with outer lens barrels that extend when the lens is zoomed and/or focused. While the barrels on most vintage prime lenses do not rotate, they usually extend when focused. A lens whose length changes can be awkward to use on a rig with a matte box.

* Non-rotating outer barrel

Lenses with a rotating outer barrel are problematic for video.

Most vintage zoom lenses are built with the focus ring on the outer lens barrel. This causes any attached lens filter to rotate as the lens is focused, making these lenses unsuitable for use with polarizer and anamorphic attachments. Most modern auto-focus lenses use internal focusing mechanisms that avoid these issues.

* Constant field of view

Lenses that breathe noticeably while focusing are problematic for video.

The focal length of almost all lenses will change slightly as the lens is focused. This effect, known as "lens breathing", alters the framing of a shot when pulling focus, making the lens appear to zoom as well as shift focus. This can ruin a shot if it is noticeable enough to be distracting.

* Constant f-stop aperture

Lenses with variable f-stops are problematic for video.

On many zoom lenses, the actual aperture will vary when the lens is set at its widest f-stops. This will cause zooming at wide f-stops to visibly affect exposure settings, which can ruin a video clip.

* Rotational zoom ring

Lenses with push-pull zoom rings are problematic for video.

Virtually all modern zoom lenses use individual focus and zoom rings. Many vintage zoom lenses were designed with a combined zoom/focus ring which zooms by sliding along the length of the lens barrel. Lenses like this are usually impractical to use on rigs with follow focus attachments.

In the next post I've reviewed a list of video-friendly manual-focus lenses that I've found well-suited for use with Lumix DSLRs. In addition, you can find a list of auto-focus zoom lenses for Lumix DSLRs at the following link:
