Samsung's QD-OLED TV panel key specifications have been disclosed by SGS (certifying). The new panels are capable of delivering over 1000 nits of peak brightness and displaying over 90% of the BT.2020 color space - both well above the specifications available for OLED panels already on the market.

QD-OLEDs are different from the regular panels LG Display has produced for quite some time. The latter use WRGB OLED - a combination of light from blue and yellow sources is passed through filters to create red, green and blue subpixels, as well as their tints. Newer TVs also use non-filtered white light sources to boost brightness - especially with HDR content.

QD-OLED emits blue light through so-called "quantum dots" that can convert it to red and green without the need for filters. Thanks to this, part of the light is not "lost" in the filters, which makes it possible to increase the brightness of the image and the energy efficiency of displays in comparison with classic OLEDs. In addition, even at peak brightness, distinct color rendition is maintained, while WRGB OLEDs under similar conditions discolor somewhat. In addition, the viewing angles, which are already quite large for OLEDs, are even higher for QD-OLEDs.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced Wednesday that CES 2022 is back on as a physical event and with virtual options, for those who would rather not risk exposure to the deadly pandemic that forced the cancellation of the 2021 event in Las Vegas last January.

“Following a successful all-digital CES 2021, CTA will convene the tech industry in-person and digitally, giving a global audience access to major brands and startups, as well as the world’s most-influential leaders and industry advocates,” the CTA said in a statement. “CES heads back to Las Vegas Jan. 5-8, 2022, with Media Days taking place Jan. 3-4, 2022.”

The Association said more than “1,000 companies have committed to showcasing their most innovative technologies in Las Vegas and companies are continuing to sign up.”

Among the companies the CTA lists as “committed” to showing up are: “Amazon, AMD, AT&T, Daimler AG, Dell, Google, Hyundai, IBM, Intel, Lenovo, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics and Sony.”

Exhibitions in 2022 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/26580/exhibitions-in-2022 Sun, 02 Jan 2022 12:55:03 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 26580@/talks/discussions CES: January

5-7 January, CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is a trade fair dedicated to electronic devices, has lot of new products, prototypes and new technologies in various fields. So far, it seems that the number of companies that are not exhibiting at the venue is increasing due to the influence of Omicron virus. Sony is scheduled to exhibit at this time.

CP +: Venue February 24-27 / Online February 22-27

CP +, which will be held in Yokohama, is a world premiere show of cameras and photographic images. They are planning to hold a hybrid event both locally and online. CP + has been held online last year, so I hope this year's CP + will be a more sophisticated event. Also, the way the exhibiting companies communicate, or the ability to communicate, is becoming more important.

WPPI: February 27th-March 3rd

An event focused  on weddings and portrait photography, held around the same time as CP +. Overseas, new information may appear from WPPI instead of CP +.

NAB

23-27 April, The NAB Show is said to be the world's largest broadcasting equipment exhibition, and is an event for professionals rather than consumers. In the last few years, the boundary between still images and videos has disappeared, and this is a video event that consumers are paying attention to. It will be a time when video-oriented mirrorless cameras and professional equipment are likely to be announced.

CHINA P & E: Is

It like CP + at a camera event held in China from April 15th to 18th. Unpublished Chinese interchangeable lenses and accessories may be exhibited and become a hot topic via overseas rumor sites.

PHOTONEXT:

Photographers & Photo Business Fair to be held at Pacifico Yokohama from June 7th to 8th . The main event is professional equipment and merchandise, photo seminars and outlets are also held, and admission is free without prior registration.

LA EXPO: June

9-12 CineGear Expo LA completely cinema-oriented event. Depending on the manufacturer, the development may be announced at NAB and officially announced at CineGearExpoLA. "ATL EXPO 2022" is scheduled to be held in Atlanta in October.

IFA:

Consumer Electronics Show in Berlin , September 2-6. It will be an event on a scale comparable to CES held in North America.

IBC Show:

Europe's largest broadcasting equipment exhibition to be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from September 9th to 12th. We can expect the announcement of professional equipment such as camcorders and cine lenses.

The Photography Show / The Video Show:

A photo and video event for beginners and professionals in the UK from September 17th to 20th.

PHOTOPIA Hamburg:

A trade fair held as an alternative event for Photokina from October 13th to 16th . At the time of the announcement of the event, it received a lot of attention, but unfortunately the news being held did not reach Japan. It will be interesting to see if this upcoming event will be a venue for major product announcements like Photokina.

PhotoPlus

2021 has been canceled and is scheduled to be held in 2022, but the detailed schedule has not been announced as of January 1, 2022. It is usually held in October and is a major photography event in North America. When Photokina existed, it was also the place where the new products announced at Photokina were first released to the public in North America.

Inter BEE: A

Comprehensive media and entertainment exhibition to be held in Japan from November 16th to 18th. 2021 was a hybrid of the venue and online, but we don't know the details of what will happen in 2022 at this time. I personally check Canon's online events.

SALON de la PHOTO

A photography event held in Paris, France. It seems that it has not been updated since 2019.

“Next year we will focus on RF lenses,” Burnhill says. “We will take a break — there will be no EF lenses next year. We’ll focus on RF. We know we have to catch up, so we have to move the production from that to RF so we can try to produce more lenses to catch up with our competitors.

“The lens manufacturing can only produce X amount of lenses. We can either produce 5 here 3 there, or we can produce 10 of these. And we realized we’re behind here.”

It is expected that we will see in this year only 1 updated advanced DSLR camera and 1-2 of cheapest models with only cosmetic changes.

Big Canon M mount APS-C cameras sale can happen in the spring with gradual sellout of all cameras and lenses except 2-3 models. Canon APS-C mirrorless system can cease to exist in 2020 completely after fall holidays big sale.

In 2021 dealers talk only about single top DSLR body from Canon as both entry level and middle lineups will move to mirrorless with only refurbished and used camera market available to get replacements.

2021 will be also year of EF lenses lineup shakeup with almost 50% of lenses being phased out, present management idea is to try to make good stock and do such without nay public announcement to avoid legal issues.

Best family cameras, my strange opinion http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/26513/best-family-cameras-my-strange-opinion Thu, 09 Dec 2021 01:29:05 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 26513@/talks/discussions I personally have little strange opinion about that cameras are best for family photos and videos (aside from smartphones)

image

My first love is Sony HDR-TD10E, camera has various issues (like 1080i shooting in 3D) but.. you can't produce simple stable amateur 3D footage for such price otherwise.

And 3D is SUPER important for your personal family stuff.

For photos - Samsung 45mm 2D/3D lens + NX500 (much cheaper NX300 will do also)

image

Again - making 3D photos is superb thing that you can only understand years ahead.

I also have Fijifilm W3 and if you go outside with nice light around, for fast stuff, it is good 3D camera.

Video codecs have several dozen parameters that subtly affect the encoding rate, quality and size of the compressed video. Codec developers, as a rule, provide standard presets that on average yield acceptable performance for all videos, but for a given video, certain parameters may yield more efficient encoding. In this paper, we propose a new approach to predicting video codec presets to increase compression efficiency. Our effort involved collecting a new representative video-sequence dataset from Vimeo.com. An experimental evaluation showed relative bitrate decreases of 17.8% and 7.9%, respectively for the x264 and x265 codecs with standard options, all while maintaining quality and speed. Comparison with other methods revealed significantly faster automatic preset selection with a comparable improvement in results. Finally, our proposed content-adaptive method predicts presets that archive better performance than codec-developer presets from MSU Codec Comparison 2020 [1].

Patreon is building a video hosting solution and native player. CEO Jack Conte confirmed the project to The Verge, alongside news that he is joining many executives before him in launching a podcast called The Creator Economy.

“We already host podcasts, and now we’re starting to host video, as well,” he says. “We’re building a video product ... So in terms of how we’ve approached our strategy, and what exactly it is that we’re building, we’re building the horizontal architecture for any creator, no matter their medium, or no matter the upload format, to be able to build a business around their work.”

Conte didn’t share more details on the product, but it’s presumably a way for creators to host and share video without leaving the platform.

Youtube is hosting most videos made by creators now, but Vimeo also gets nice money. Considering horrible shape of dying Vimeo hosting it can be final blow.

DDR5 memory coming, and it is sad long story http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17800/ddr5-memory-coming-and-it-is-sad-long-story Thu, 21 Sep 2017 02:25:43 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 17800@/talks/discussions Rambus now has working prototypes of DDR5 , the next major interface for DRAM dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs). The register clock drivers and data buffers could help double the throughput of main memory in servers, probably starting in 2019 — and they are already sparking a debate about the future of computing.

The Jedec standards group plans to release before June the DDR5 spec as the default memory interface for next-generation servers. However, some analysts note it comes at a time of emerging alternatives in persistent memories, new computer architectures and chip stacks.

“To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to have functional DDR5 DIMM chip sets in the lab. We are expecting production in 2019, and we want to be first to market to help partners bring up the technology”

DDR5 is expected to support data rates up to 6.4 Gbits/second delivering 51.2 GBytes/s max, up from 3.2 Gbits and 25.6 GBytes/s for today’s DDR4. The new version will push the 64-bit link down to 1.1V and burst lengths to 16 bits from 1.2V and 8 bits. In addition, DDR5 lets voltage regulators ride on the memory card rather than the motherboard.

CPU vendors are expected to expand the number of DDR channels on their processors from 12 to 16. That could drive main memory sizes to 128 Gbytes from 64 GB today.

The DDR5 standard will arrive about the same time Jedec releases its NVMDIMM-p interface for memory modules supporting a mix of DRAM and persistent memory. Intel said it will roll out server DIMMs next year using its 3D XPoint chips.

A lot of people don’t think DDR5 will be the next-generation memory interface. Process technology shrinks for DRAMs are approaching the physical limits of its core capacitors, leading experts to project the end the memory designs in five to ten years. Higher error rates are already requiring correcting code circuitry on the chips.

Nikon Live Remote Shooting Course http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/26239/nikon-live-remote-shooting-course Sat, 25 Sep 2021 14:05:12 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 26239@/talks/discussions

During a Live Remote Shooting course, customers can participate by either watching along from the photographer’s point of view, seeing the exact in-camera setup in real-time or by actively taking part in changing the camera settings themselves from their home device.

Neil Freeman, Training Manager for Nikon School UK says: "We’re really excited about introducing Live Remote Shooting to our course line-up, providing all photographers with accessibility to remote locations and the unique opportunity to see and shoot as we do in picturesque sites around the UK and beyond. We hope by offering this opportunity, it will enable photographers to experience photographing with new and recently announced lenses and cameras out in the field, as well as testing Nikon equipment they’ve been considering purchasing, without the need for lengthy or costly travel.

This is also a perfect opportunity for them to ask us specific questions and test out unique features live, allowing participants to see how these changes reflect in the final images they’ll receive at the end of the day."

How the live remote shooting works:

  1. A Nikon School trainer travels to a difficult to access location e.g Waterfalls and tethers the camera to a laptop.
  2. The course will be live-streamed via a video hosting platform and photographers will be able to join virtually.
  3. The Nikon School trainer will share their screen and give the photographer joint control over their laptop; this screen includes the same button functionality as if they were using the camera in real life.
  4. The photographer now has the opportunity to guide the Nikon School trainer in positioning the camera into a desired frame.
  5. With free reign over controls, the photographer has the chance to play around with settings and either direct or capture an image.
  6. Once taken, the image will display immediately on the screen providing an opportunity to see how the settings, camera and lens they chose affected the way the final picture looks.
  7. The photographer is welcome to request specific lenses or cameras to be used, including those not yet available in-store, and ask any advice Nikon School can offer.
  8. Afterwards, Nikon School will send the customer their RAW images taken on the course, allowing them to post-process to their desired specification.

Live Remote Shooting courses will join the Nikon School lineup at https://www.nikonschool.co.uk from October 2021.

GSPRINT4510- Gpixel expands high-speed GSPRINT series with a 4/3” 10MP 2000fps global shutter image sensor.

Gpixel announces a high-speed global shutter image sensor, GSPRINT4510, a new member of GSPRINT series targeting high speed applications.

GSPRINT4510 is a 10 Megapixel (4608 x 2176) 4/3” (22.9mm) high speed image sensor designed with the latest 4.5 µm charge domain global shutter pixel. It achieves more than 30 ke- charge capacity and less than 3 e- rms read noise. Using an advanced 65 nm CIS process with light pipe technology, the sensor achieves >65% QE and more than 1/40,000 shutter efficiency. With on-chip charge binning, full well capacity can be further increased and frame rate is almost quadrupled.

GSPRINT4510 will be offered in two variants to support in the most optimal way different end-use use cases. One version is dedicated to 3D laser profiling and supports 144 pairs sub-LVDS channels running at 1.2Gbps each, which delivers a stunning 2000 fps in 8-bit operation at 2048 rows and > 3500 fps with an ROI of 1024 rows in combination with several HDR modes. Incorporating unique, tailored features such as a thinner glass lid to reduce stray light reflection, the option to have no micro lenses, and either a sealed or removable glass lid makes GSPRINT4510 the ideal solution for 3D laser scanning applications.

For other applications including high-speed industrial inspection, life science imaging and 4K video applications, the sensor is offered in monochrome, color and achieve up to 500 fps @ 12-bit, 1008 fps @ 10-bit and 1928 fps @ 8-bit with full resolution. On-chip 2×2 charge binning can boost frame rates more than x3 with a full well charge increase to 120 ke-. Flexible output channel multiplex modes make it possible to reduce frame and data rate to make it compatible with all available camera interface options. This version of the sensor incorporates micro lenses on top of the pixels and a sealed glass lid making GSPRINT4510 the ultimate choice for many applications such as 4/3”(Micro Four Thirds) format global shutter cameras in slow motion capture or drone-mounted videography.

Both versions of GSPRINT4510 are packaged in a 454-pin uPGA ceramic package which is pin-compatible with GSPRINT4521. GSPRINT4510 monochrome engineering samples can be ordered today for delivery in October 2021. For more information, please visit GSPRINT4510 product page or contact us at info@gpixel.com.
