GH2, 20mm Pancake and follow focus? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5664/gh2-20mm-pancake-and-follow-focus Fri, 04 Jan 2013 14:42:56 +0000 rod 5664@/talks/discussions Hello, I use a GH2 and a Edelkrone Pocket Rig. My problem: I need a follow focus I can use with my Pana 20mm, 1,7. Problem: The focus ring of the pancake optic is very close to the camera body. With "normal" solutions the lens gear is blocked by the camara body. Any ideas?

The follow focus should also work with the Pana 7-14 and 14-42, Nikkor: 24 2,8; 35 2.0; 85 2.0; 180 2,8. I guess, with all these lenses there will be no problem - hopefully.

Friend's daughter works at Adultshop locally. She was with him he came over I was trying out all types of elastic bands etc to find something that slipped over the gear of my Lanparte follow focus so I could use as a friction follow focus on lenses with continuous rotating focus rings.

She offered to take it to work .. she was sure she had something .. she came over the next day with the perfect solution.

A 1 and a 1/4 inch cock ring .. perfect fit for Lanparte .. those with smaller or larger units than me may need a different size :P

It seems like the lens moves because of the torque applied to it, causing the image to move. I got a gini FF, some nikon & yashica lenses, but the problem appears with every lenses... Just to be clear I'm not speaking about "breathing" but some kind of unwanted movement from the lens while focusing. Is there a solution or is it a well-know issue with still lenses ?

Thanks in advance

If you are bored with price hike and shipping delays with other follow focus model, it can be very good deal.

Need advice on lens gears http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3377/need-advice-on-lens-gears Sun, 27 May 2012 12:15:59 +0000 disneytoy 3377@/talks/discussions Hello!

I bought the Gini follow focus. VERY BEEFY! But I have no lens gears. At the moment I have the kit 14-42mm, 20mm, Helios 44 58mm, some tiny c-lenses like the 35mm Fujian.

I read the review on the Cinematic lens gears. Very affordable. Well under $10 each.

Any advice on what lens gears would work for me?>

Thanks!

Repeatable Focus Moves with Focus By Wire lenses http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3344/repeatable-focus-moves-with-focus-by-wire-lenses Fri, 25 May 2012 16:22:35 +0000 bheath 3344@/talks/discussions Here is my little contribution to PV. These focus by wire lenses are maddening. So, I've been trying to finda way to manage repeatable focus moves. Here's where I'm at: Physically superimposed marks on the LCD or monitor. (Stick on) I first tried camera tape strips with pen marks. Not bad but ugly. Also grease pencil and so forth. What I came up with (and could be improved is this: (see photo) screen protectors for cameras and Iphones havee a little scale for cutting with precision, I just cut off the scale and stuck it over where the distance slider appears when you manually focus an auto lens. It's transluscent with marks and numbers. Then I used the focus chart and tape measure and memorized distance for each auto lens. (sort of) It could work for your focus puller, or piss her off. But i like it for hitting a couple of marks without spazzing out on the focus ring. It's something. With the 12-35 pana, it could be promising eh? Photo taken with camera phone looking into the varavon loupe diopter, mounted on gh2... Good Loupe! Thanks Vitaly Let's get 'er in focus dammit!

Follow Focus Torque and Lens Adapter Mounts http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2349/follow-focus-torque-and-lens-adapter-mounts Mon, 20 Feb 2012 17:07:07 +0000 itimjim 2349@/talks/discussions Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help of give me advice. I have the JinFinance Canon FD adapter for my GH2, which I've had no problems with, that is until now.

I've put a follow focus on my rig, with one of those cable tie type gears. The torque that's applied by the follow focus moves the lens quite significantly when in operation, which gives an obvious wobble when recording, and even worse will slip gears. It looks like the base of the lens adapter is moving and is sloppy.

Does anyone have any advice around a better adapter for Canon FD, or is this just a common pitfall with this line of lenses?

Thanks in advance.

Tim

DIY "remote" focus control (accurate, LEGO!) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2282/diy-remote-focus-control-accurate-lego Tue, 14 Feb 2012 16:40:33 +0000 Matt 2282@/talks/discussions Okay, so this is not a particularly clever invention, but it actually works and is quite useful, which makes it worth sharing. :)

Now, I've had an idea in my head for quite a while now; remotely controlling a DSLR's lens' focus ring using (I don't know the proper word) 'motor mirroring'. Basically using one motor as the "generator", and the other to control the focus. So it happens that I found my LEGO and made my idea! Really pleased with how it turned out, so I thought I'd make a video demonstrating it and to show it to everyone here, as I think it's of interest to the people who browse these forums.

It's pretty useful for me personally, because of my shooting style. If you have LEGO, try and build yourself one. Mine took an hour, but I'm sure if one was to invest more time a better device could be created!

Post below if you are interested!

Price would be around$100/gear but if they're of the same quality as the very solid looking OCT19 gears he makes I'd have em ;p

EDIT - you may only need 1 for all the lenses as the diameter of the focus area is commonly 56/57 mm

I quite like the look of it for a really light system, not sure how well it will work. I'm very tempted though.

I tried messaging them to ask about using the device on metal lenses like the Voigtlander ones, I don't fancy putting something metal on metal, its clearly designed for the more normal rubberised focus wheels. I reckon you could put something in between the metal wheel and this device to protect it though.

Anyone had any experience with them?]]>
