The TH Swiss company would like to announce the expansion of its range of Irix accessories with the Edge 100 series filter system. Among new products, there will be a versatile holder – the IFH-100 - with dedicated adapters and a wide choice of 100x100mm and 100x150mm filters.

image

The Irix Edge IFH-100 filter holder

The Irix IFH-100 is a universal filter holder designed for size 100mm filters. Its lightweight compact construction and bayonet adapter are created especially for the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens, allowing the use of two filters at the same time without any vignetting effect. The construction of the filter holder base on the removable adapters allows for quick and easily attachment to the lens, along with free rotation around the optical axis when using the graduated or polarizing filters.

The ability to use removable adapters with thread diameters from 67mm to 82mm means that the holder can be used with lenses produced by Irix in the future, along with other brands. Each adapter has an additional thread for attaching the cap to the lens.

The filter holder is made of an aluminium alloy, which guarantees the high strength and stiffness of its structure. This has enabled to get an extremely compact size while keeping wide functionality, along with an aesthetic design together with the whole Irix product line. It is worth mentioning that the IFH-100 is the lightest holder of its class. The front surface of the filter holder is covered with a light-absorbing velvet fabric that blocks access to the side light, what is especially important when using high density optical ND filters.

The Irix Edge 100 filters

With the introduction of the IFH-100 filter holder, the Edge 100 series filters will also be available in two formats. The first, size 100x150, will contain gradual filters with a soft and hard transition, and also a reversed gradual filter dedicated to taking pictures of sunrises and sunsets. These rectangular filters will be available in ND4, ND8 and ND16 versions. In the square format, Neutral Density filters with densities ND32, ND128, ND1000, ND1000K will be available for the 100x100mm, along with a polarizing filter. There are future plans by the manufacturer to introduce filters which reduce light pollution.

Edge 100 series filters have a thickness of 2mm and are made from high quality optical glass which is also used in the production of the optical elements in lenses. Filters are coated on both sides with an anti-reflective nano-coating to keep high contrast and natural colours in pictures. The additional water and oil repellent coating also ensures easy cleaning of the surface.

The premiere at Photo Plus Expo 2017

The Edge series will be available at the Irix booth (No.929) during the Photo Plus Expo in New York City on October 26-28, 2017.

The full range of new Irix Edge accessories, along with pricing and availability information, will be published in the near future.

I just received my Lens Turbo II and tried to mount my FD 50mm 1.4 but I cant make the aperture work. I bring the red dot of the lens to the yellow dot of the adapter and twist it towards the red dot (so red dot of adapter and lens match up). While I do that i can feel that the metal screw of the adapter is moving the aperture hock (dont know how that is called), but when the red dots are lined up so the entire lens should fit into the adapter to move again in the other direction its not possible because where the screw is placed the lens pops out a bit and is not fitting into the adapter. if I lift the lens a bit and put it back it fits but the metal aperture hock is not in place anymore and when i screw the lens on the aperture ring is not functioning. i have looked for solutions online, found one guy that said for him it worked to make the screw of the adapter bigger with some rubber because in his case the screw was not lined up with the aperture hook of the lens (thats not the same in my case). tired this as well, funnily one time i somehow manage to get the lens on the adapter with the aperture working but after that always the same (it pops out a bit so i cant mount the lens on the adapter). I made a video, hope you can see the problem there

please help!

For owners of Canon EOS wide-angle or zoom lenses as well as Sony E-Mount lenses the NOVOFLEX RETRO-Adapters open up the world of extreme close-up photography with outstanding quality.

image

"The new NEX-RETRO reversing adapter from NOVOFLEX is a powerful addition to any Sony user's toolkit. It allows any Sony E mount lens to be attached to the camera in a reverse orientation changing the focal length to macro functionality with full electronic transmission as though the lens were mounted directly to the camera in its usual manner. We're delighted to bring this functionality to Sony users just as the EOS-RETRO provides to Canon users."

The NOVOFLEX RETRO-Adapters lets you mount the lens in reverse position on the camera. The ring transfers all control functions.

Example: With a Canon EOS 28-105 mm zoom lens in reverse position, you get an image ratio of 1:7 with a focal length of 105 mm from 1:7 to 2.8:1 at 28 mm.

This is a wider setting range than is possible with a macro lens.

The NOVOFLEX RETRO-Adapters are supplied standard with a 58 mm filter diameter. Stepping rings are available for other filter sizes.

  • Bring to life the finest details: NEX-RETRO allows reverse mounting of Sony E-mount lenses for close focus macro applications.
  • No compromise in flexibility: NEX-RETRO retains complete electronic functionality between Sony E-mount lenses and bodies.
  • Precision engineering: NEX-RETRO is the perfect tool to make the perfect picture even better.

PR

Caldwell Photographic Inc. and Metabones is pleased to announce the Speed Booster Q666, a.k.a. “The Devil’s Speed Booster”, exclusively for Pentax Q series cameras. With its 0.5x magnification and world-record f/0.666 maximum speed, it is crazy wicked fast. So make a deal with the devil today and turn your Pentax Q with its back-illuminated sensor into a monster low-light machine unlike anything ever seen in photography. Attach a f/1.2 lens and stop down a little to see how Stanley Kubrick made do with f/0.7 for filming those famous candle-lit scenes in “Barry Lyndon”. Or open up all the way to f/0.666 and probe the darkness in a way that no photographer has ever been able to do until now.

With an advanced 6-element optical design, the Q666 packs lots of optical horsepower in a small package. Sharpness is excellent even at f/0.666 and is downright superb if you stop down to f/1.0. Distortion is very low, with a maximum value of, naturally, 0.666%. And thanks to the back-illuminated sensor used in Pentax Q cameras, the full f/0.666 maximum aperture can be utilized with minimal pixel vignetting effects commonly seen in other cameras used with high-speed lenses.

At f/0.666 (i.e., with a f/1.2 master lens) the MTF is high near the axis and only falls off gradually toward the corners. As the aperture is reduced to f/1.0 and then f/2.0 the MTF becomes very high and more even across the field. There is less than 1 stop of corner illumination falloff even at f/0.666. And guess what - there is no vignetting at all after the output aperture reaches f/1.82. Rectilinear distortion added by the Speed Booster Q666 is negligible at less than 0.666%.

Like all Metabones Speed Boosters, the Speed Booster Q666 is optimized to fully account for the camera’s filter stack located near the sensor surface. This is especially critical at the record-setting f/0.666 aperture now possible with the Q666. As a result, an enormous range of optics, from vintage film lenses to the latest digital designs, will function flawlessly when adapted to any Pentax Q camera. Planned lens mounts for the Speed Booster Q666 include a Pentax-K version and a Nikon F/G version with the most advanced Nikon G aperture adjustment mechanism in the industry.

Canon EF to Fujifilm GFX Techart adapter http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17793/canon-ef-to-fujifilm-gfx-techart-adapter Wed, 20 Sep 2017 13:34:06 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 17793@/talks/discussions image

The innovative adapter developer, Techart, who has previously launched the first autofocus adapter for manual lenses, has unveiled the world’s first Autofocus adapter for Canon EF lenses & Fujifilm GFX 50S camera. The Techart EF-GFX adapter provides autofocus function as well as in-body aperture control for using Canon /Sigma EF-mount lenses on the Fujifilm GFX body.

Techart has tested extensively on the modern Canon / Sigma EF-mount lenses in the market and found the autofocus performance on the GFX is satisfactory. Aperture of the lenses can also be adjusted on the camera by simply turning the command dial. The EF- GFX adapter currently supports AF-S mode for shooting and supports the lens Image Stabilization function (if applicable). Focal length and aperture data will also be saved into the adapter.

Techart is also working to unlock the AF-C and video-shooting feature. It is expected to be seen in future firmware release. The firmware of the adapter is user-upgradable and can be done by simply plugging the adapter into a computer via the Micro USB cable and running the update program.

The short flange distance of Fujifilm GFX 50S provides a perfect platform for adapting different mount lenses. Although not every one of the full frame EF-mount lenses has a big enough image circle to cover the GFX sensor, Techart EF-GFX adapter still opens up a wide range of lenses options for GFX users to consider.

Pricing and Availability

The Techart Canon EF – Fujifilm GFX Autofocus Adapter is currently available for pre- order at our official website (http://www.techartpro.com). The recommended retail price is USD 499/pc. Free shipping will be provided during the promotion period. Delivery will commence from mid Oct onwards. 1-year warranty is included.

SLR Magic ND Filters http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17605/slr-magic-nd-filters Thu, 24 Aug 2017 17:13:57 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 17605@/talks/discussions

SLR Magic expands its filter lineup with fixed ND filters

Hong Kong, China (August 23rd, 2017) - To achieve a shallow depth of field, cinematographers use ND filters to control exposure to shoot at wider apertures. To achieve motion in still pictures, photographers use ND filters for long exposures. Modern digital sensors have a broad color spectrum and sensitive to far red for better color response. However, when ND filters are used, only light in the visible spectrums are suppressed without accounting for far red to infrared suppression. As ND density is increased, infrared contamination occurs.

As a result of these simple yet frequent problems, we bring to you new additions to the SLR Magic ND range.

Here are several problem solving factors that gives us a competitive edge:

  • The SLR Magic ND contains no dichroic coating and will not vignette green, magenta or cyan at wide angles.
  • The SLR Magic ND filter suppresses far red along with visible light to avoid issues of color shift and far red pollution when higher density ND is used.

Its not so common knowledge that many digital sensors are more sensitive to infrared light. So for best results, we also recommend using the SLR Magic Image Enhancer Pro filter for IR control.

All our filters are manufactured and optimized to deliver colour accuracy and sharpness across all brands of lenses, and, when utilized with our proprietary lenses, the results are evident. This very commitment to consistency in optics is fast becoming the standard and ethos at SLR Magic.

Here are the technical details:

These new SLR Magic fixed ND filters are available in the following densities.

  • 0.3 (1 Stop) – 82mm
  • 0.6 (2 Stop) – 82mm
  • 0.9 (3 Stop) – 82mm
  • 1.2 (4 Stop) – 82mm
  • 1.5 (5 Stop) – 82mm
  • 1.8 (6 Stop) – 82mm
  • 2.7 (9 Stop) – 82mm
  • 3.0 (10 Stop) – 82mm

The SLR Magic ND filter (MSRP: $99 US) will be available from authorized dealers starting September 2017.

Initial impressions after playing with it for short:

I really like quality, all but filter frames and their side holding stuff are from metal.
Feels really sturdy.
Has four flags (top, bottom, and two side flags).
Flags (and all mattebox :-) ) are much better than indian stuff, thicker, better made, internal sides are covered with dark velvet.
Right now it feels like one of the best gear purchases.

I'll later try to review it in more detail, but after more real work.

Btw they no longer have this awful screws heads on top of inside velvet on flags, now they use proper screws with flat heads that are below velvet.

Lee ProGlass IRND Filters http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17273/lee-proglass-irnd-filters Fri, 30 Jun 2017 14:25:47 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 17273@/talks/discussions image

Two years in the making, the ProGlass IRND range from LEE Filters sets a new standard in neutral-density filters.

ProGlass IRND filters were originally designed for the film industry, to meet the exacting needs of the world’s leading cinematographers, and have already been hailed as the best neutral-density filters on the market. Now, they are available to the stills photographer, in sizes to fit the LEE Filters Seven5, 100mm and SW150 systems.

Advances in coating technology mean that the filters, which are manufactured from 2mm-thick, optically flat glass, are available not only in strengths of two (0.6ND), three (0.9ND), four (1.2ND) and six (1.8ND) stops, but also in ultra-long 10 (3ND) and 15-stop (4.5ND) versions. Not only this, but all filters in the range – whatever their strength – are designed to be free of colour casts, with extremely accurate stop values, ensuring consistency in all shooting conditions and allowing for absolute precision when exposing images. Their neutrality also means less time spent tweaking colour balances in postproduction.

In addition, filters in the ProGlass IRND range are designed to block both infrared and ultraviolet pollution. As a result, blacks are rendered truly black, whites are clean, and results reveal a crispness that is second to none.

The 6, 10 and 15-stop versions of the ProGlass IRND filters come with a foam seal to prevent light leaks during long exposures, and should be placed into the filter slot closest to the lens. While the 2, 3, 4 and 6-stop versions do not feature a foam seal, it is still recommended also to place them into the slot closest to the lens.

All filters in the ProGlass IRND range can be used in conjunction with other filters, including neutral-density grads and the polariser.
