Cheapest laptop for basic video editing http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12963/cheapest-laptop-for-basic-video-editing Mon, 11 May 2015 11:18:05 +0000 flablo 12963@/talks/discussions Hello, I'm looking for a cheap solution for a laptop to make some basic video editing using Premiere CC. This is because once in a month I happen to need a laptop for fast editing on-site just after the shoot. I'm Mac based, but for the relatively simple and occasional need, I'd prefer non to spend on a Mac laptop. So I'm wondering if there is some cheap Chinese (or not) laptop that someone tested which can get the work done. Small size and weight would be a plus. Thank you guys!!

Obviously the result would be scaled, but I'm looking for an option to take on dive boats with me to backup and review footage taken throughout the day/trip. I'm not looking for tablets that "claim" they are 4k, but rather actual tablets that have been proven to play GH4 4K/UHD files smoothly. Thanks!

The processors will feature a 2.3Ghz Core Clock and a 2.9Ghz Turbo Clock. Another configuration will have 2.2 Ghz Core Clock with an absolutely depressing 2.4Ghz of Turbo. TDP will be 95W and 80W respectively.

Reason can be very high thermal specs of GPU parts that push CPU performance much lower.

Web streaming + HDMI recording 2-3GHx's http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6391/web-streaming-hdmi-recording-2-3ghxs Wed, 13 Mar 2013 13:56:30 +0000 andrevanberlo 6391@/talks/discussions As there are quite a few videographers around here that use much of the same equipment i do I thought this forum is the best place to post my question.

I want to use the HDMI of my 2 GH3’s for webstreaming using some software like wirecast but also for recording instructional videos on my Mac.

Now I’ve been looking at solutions from AJA, Matrox, and Blackmagic but I’m unsure which one actually does what i need it to do.

This is the short list of features that I’m looking for: 2 hdmi inputs that can be streamed simultaneously to the web Able to record the HDMI of both cams to an SSD the device or card would help out with any rendering done by FCPX , Pr, AE, etc...

Extra’s: I have also one GH2, I’ve read that the HDMI of the GH2 is useless for recording but maybe it can be used for streaming? The possibility of adding the GH2 to the setup and thus having 3 cams would be a welcome bonus but not necessary.

I have an RME fireface 800 that i'll be using for audio capture.

What would you all see as the best way to go about doing this?

Has Samsung 4K panel. Around $800 price. The new Mi TV 2 comes powered by a MStar 6A928 quad-core 1.4GHz processor paired with Mali-760 MP4 GPU. The company says that it has re-designed the Bluetooth subwoofer and sound bar. It comes with a Dolby MS12 virtual surround sound system. Other features include a 2GB DDR3 RAM and 8 gigs of eMMC5.0 flash storage. Much like the FHD variant of the Mi TV 2, the new version also supports H.265 codec, and out of the box support for popular media formats including MKV, and MP4 among others. The TV also supports the Dual-band 802.11ac WiFi. If for some reason you were still not satisfied, the new TV also supports 3D movie playback. The company hasn't specified the operating system, but it is likely running on Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI skin on top.

Multiple camera live event, streaming with PC, wireless HDMI solution and Starcraft. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12148/multiple-camera-live-event-streaming-with-pc-wireless-hdmi-solution-and-starcraft. Sun, 11 Jan 2015 08:00:21 +0000 256colour 12148@/talks/discussions Hey. I've been lurking around here for years while toying with my gh2. Got some really valuable knowledge from here and made some fun artsy things for myself. Recently i have found myself a new ambition for my gh2.

For some years I’ve done local lanparties here in my little 1 million population country. There has been somewhere around 150 participants, we have played some older and newer games and it has been fun.

Last year i also did some streaming for event’s tournament (in estonian language) and got surprisingly quite few people watching. I got some feedback saying that it’s pretty fun and all that but there is something missing, it lacks a little bit of that „live“ effect. Unfortunately I’dont have much time to play these days, but I really want to do something extra for local community this year to add a little excitement.

So the plan I want to realize is like this:

Up to 2-3 cameras in sync with eachother, one of them totally wireless with video and sound. Commentary table with 2 mics, lavalier or headworn type which could be used in the schools halls and corridors where events usually take place. Create tv-show or sportslike viewer friendly experience with live editing.

The resources i have: ’Laptop with usb3 port. (haven’t bought yet, need one with good usb3 interface and nvidia chip) ’PC computer with usb3. ’Firewire camcorder hv20 with analog output (firewire connection has 3 secs of lag so can’t be used) ’GH2 ’H4N ’Firewire external sound card with 1 XLR and 2 Hi-Z line inputs (H4N can be connected through line input) ’1 lav mic(works only with h4n 3,5 input, not Hi-Z / line ones) ’Rode videomic

The budget i have is somewhere about 2000€. All gear must be availible for shipping to Estonia (no extra tax inside EU) The things i think i need to buy but are not totally sure about are:

’USB3 HDMI Capture card. It would be good if i could connect two cameras into one, or i might need to use 2 capture cards. But is that even possible? Does USB interface allow such bandwidth? ’Used camcorder with CLEAN hdmi output and usable as usb webcam. I know some Canon camcorders are useable with USB, but i don’t have any idea about delay’s and sync, would be very useful feature nonetheless. ’2 lavalier or headworn microphones for commentary table ’Wireless hdmi video and sound transmitter with minimal to no delay (uncompressed signal is a must?) ’External sound card with more inputs or analog mixer (h4n itself might be enough in some situations) 'usb webcam (do these things have delay?)

The programs used will be Open Broadcaster or Xsplit, but can also be something else if it’s not too expensive. I have done research about allmentioned things myself and later I try to post some of my own conclusions after i have sorted all the links. At the moment things feel a little overwhelming, but it’s ok. ;)

At the moment the thing I haven’t figured out is how will i be able to monitor the cameras if i should buy 2 capture cards. I want to avoid buying Blackmagic ATEM just for monitoring function. I need a some way to monitor capture card inputs without showing them on Xsplit stream window. Basically, I need to preview the camera feeds that you'd throw live before you switch to them. At the moment it’s not possible with Open Broadcaster, Xsplit has a preview scene function in beta 2.0 at the moment which can be a workaround i guess. But maybe there are some other program to monitor capture cards inputs? I think Wirecast supports it, if can’t find any workaround then I might be forced to buy it..

There is also an older thread with also some good discussion: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6391/web-streaming-hdmi-recording-2-3ghxs/p1

I would be most grateful if you would share me your advice and knowledge to make this Starcraft dream of mine happen. = )

Haswell-E versus Ivy Bridge-E http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11455/haswell-e-versus-ivy-bridge-e Tue, 30 Sep 2014 13:04:38 +0000 powderbanks 11455@/talks/discussions So the time has come to replace my aging Samsung laptop as my main editing machine. I've put together two builds on PCPartPicker, one with the Ivy Bridge-E 4930K (3.4GHz, 6 core) and one with the Haswell-E 5930K (3.5GHz, 6-core). Aside from the CPU's, the motherboards and the RAM are the only differences (X79 vs X99 chipsets and DDR3 vs DDR4 RAM), but the price difference is less than $1. I'm in between amateur and professional, I'd like to make video/film work my primary source of income, so it does need to be stable (I'll still probably overclock slightly...the nerd in me won't let me have a stock system [most of the reason I have a GH2]), but any new workstation is going to run circles around my laptop. As far as 'future-proofing,' I think the Haswell will be the way to go, but as far as stability goes, it seems the Ivy Bridge will be the better choice. I'm probably going to go with the Haswell, but if anyone has any thoughts, please chime in.

Ivy Bridge build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/honorableninja/saved/w2wmP6

Haswell build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/honorableninja/saved/xB6NnQ

As far as hard drive setup goes, Samsung is for OS/programs, Crucial SSD for media cache/renders/export, WD Blue for media files, WD Black for archiving/old footage. I would like to have a RAID array for the archiving, but I have a bunch of external 1 and 2 TB drives that will be made redundant with the new system, so I'll use them for backups for now.

Replacing 2009 Macbook Pro 17" for under $2100 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11429/replacing-2009-macbook-pro-17-for-under-2100 Sun, 28 Sep 2014 14:37:31 +0000 Sangye 11429@/talks/discussions My 2009 17" MacBook Pro (3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, 512mb 9600M GT) is on its last legs. It was once the top-end MacBook Pro that money could buy ($2800), but now it can't keep up with 4K material from my GH4, crashes often, and just in general is showing its age. This is happening at a bad time where I've had a lot of expenses recently come up, but I can budget as much as $2100 to replace it.

I've thought about building a Hackintosh, but the more I think about it, the more I want to have a laptop. I travel a lot, and often work away from home. Really I've built a lifestyle around being able to edit on the go, and I don't want to sacrifice that. And although I am using Premiere and could theoretically switch to Windows, I have invested in other software that is Mac-only. I know that I could afford a much better Windows computer for the same price, but I'm tending to want to stay on a Mac.

This leaves me just the choice between the different configurations of 2011 (non-Retina), 2012, 2013, and 2014 15" Macbook Pros. I am looking at lightly used, seller refurbished, and manufacturer refurbished options on eBay.

Basically, here's what I'm wondering: How much better is the 750M (Late 2013) than the 650M graphics card? How much better are both of these than Iris Pro graphics? And how much better are all three than 2011-year Radeon 6750 graphics? How helpful is CUDA when editing in Premiere (which is only supported on the 650M and 750M)?

How much of a difference does CPU clock speed make for video editing on these quad-core i7 Macbooks? How about the performance differences between Sandy Bridge (Early 2011), Ivy Bridge (Mid 2012), and Haswell (Late 2013)?

I do plan on getting 16GB of RAM, since it's not user-upgradeable.

I don't care as much about the hard-drive, since I plan to upgrade to a 1TB SSD a little later, once I have money to spend again and prices have hopefully gone further down. I also don't care about battery life very much.

Any advice is helpful. Thank you!

My computer setup is a Dt5500 with a Nivada 5000 card. Grading with colorista 2/resolve with editing using Perimere CC. I don't have the cash for a proper 10bit pro monitor so i was looking into something like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/963178-REG/dell_469_4030_24_ultrasharp_u2413.html Any good? Or are there better ones out there with a similar price tag. Before you ask too, was going to use a pro grader but the money fell through :( Cheers
