Which rig/stabilizer for imparting 'energy' into shots?

All-

Going to be filming a corporate video here shortly; one of the effects that I would like to achieve is the slight 'motion' in the side/angle shots of an interview. See this interview with Shane Hurlbut to see what I mean:

Essentially, primary camera is on a tripod; then secondary camera for footage of interviewee from the side is either shoulder-mounted, handheld, or on some sort of Glidecam-esque device. The problem is, I don't know what type of device is being used.

I had been looking to obtain a shoulder mounted rig to achieve the same end- am I looking on the right path? Or should I be considering something else entirely? Basically, I want an option that allows me to get non-shaky footage, but that DOES have some motion to the shot so that not all of my shots are straight up stationary or on a slider.

This was fun... kinda. Today I learned that one should never fly indoors without good calibration... Also GoPro is better camera than GH2 when it comes to crashing into walls.

I further modified my Smoothee to where I'm happy with the performance now. As it's very lightweight, there's still an issue with windy days, but for some specific shots I'm really happy that I can chuck this little baby in a carry-on bag or backpack.

what is your go to tool for smooth camera movement (other than tripod), i know we have many choices (slider,dolly,spider dolly,jib,steadycam) ,what do you guys find your self using the most (with best result)..i just made a diy spider dolly , i love how easy to set it up, but it need a flat surface ..

I have the lite, which works fine, but am interested in the crane and the longer version. They also have little wheels that attack to the bottom of the crane that made me giggle... want them too...

does anyone have any tips on how to get steady speed on sliders with out crank other then handpush.pull? I've been using rubber bands with my lite slider and gh2, rokinon 35mm and loupe gets good results most of the time

maybe a future deal on here? eh

A while back I connected my blackbird to a painters pole to do a very quick and dirty jib shot.

Anyone else tried it? I've got another job coming up this week and I want to give it another shot. the rotational movement of the blackbird makes it a very hit and miss affair

What makes stabilizers effective

I see a wide range of image stabilizers from DIY through very expensive. Can anyone explain what accounts for a stabilizer's effectiveness? Is it size, weight, design, etc? Looking forward to perspectives from this knowledgeable group.

PS I very often make these posts incorrectly and am not always sure what I have done wrong. If this is the case with this post, please explain the correct approach so I eventually get it. Thanks

im borrowing a gh2 and fs-100 for a project where i need a stabilizer that can handle the individual weight of both cams. will be using a longer zeiss lense so gh2 set up is a bit heavier than the typical stock setup. should i get a lighter rig for them (hd2ooo) or something like the hd4ooo? the gh2 config weighs in @ 3.5lbs (lens + base plate w/camera). anyone used the hd4000 extensively with smaller dslrs? if so, please share your experiences. thanks

Sorry for german sites. It's all about an Octocopter for GH2 Camera with GPS, Live Monitor vor 2 Guys, one who controls camera and other one who controls the flight unit. Follow modus and much more. Im wondering, if there is something similar the normal user could get without getting blank (of money). Does anybody know something similar? Those guys are only lean this thing.

I made this several days ago for a low budget short so I thought I'd share. It's very heavy duty, and can support a fully loaded RED ONE with ease. I used it with a fully loaded AF100 with a Hyperdeck Shuttle, rods, mattebox, FF, SmallHD, etc. It might be overkill for a GH2 tho. I accidentally tightened the two halve together too much and got flat spots in the wheels, so I'm in the process of replacing them as well as a few more little modifications. I'm not super happy with the rail design on the ends, but I needed something quick for the shoot. I'll probably update that at some point as well.

Has anyone tried out this discoverycam slider? Very tempted, it looks great, I would love to use my 75mm bowl mount head on a slider, but at the price, I could buy a different dedicated head and a juicedlink kit. Thoughts?
