War: Australia fully turns into police state
    • The Australian government passed a broad surveillance bill this month that is far more intrusive than any other member of the Five Eyes.

The Surveillance Legislation Amendment (Identify and Disrupt) Bill 2020 provides the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) with three new powers to combat online crime:

      1. Data disruption warrant: gives the police the ability to “disrupt data” by modifying, copying, adding, or deleting it.
      2. Network activity warrant: allows the police to collect intelligence from devices or networks that are used, or likely to be used, by those subject to the warrant.
      3. Account takeover warrant: allows the police to take control of an online account (e.g. social media) for the purposes of gathering information for an investigation.

If you become a suspect in a serious crime investigation, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission will soon have the power to modify, add, copy, or delete your data.

The fact that there is no judicial oversight makes this legislation even worse. A member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal can issue a data disruption or network activity warrant without the need for a judge’s approval.

China: Total ban on reality shows also
    • The Chinese authorities have banned TV channels from broadcasting reality talent shows, whose young participants become idols of young Chinese. This was reported by The Guardian.

In this way, the country's leadership hopes to counter the fan culture that enriches the entertainment industry and allegedly misleads young people by instilling in them the wrong values.

"Broadcasters and television establishments must not broadcast idol development programs or pop and reality shows with children of celebrities," such regulations are now in force in China.

The authorities also called on the media to "resolutely oppose displays of wealth and pleasure, an interest in gossip and privacy, negative hot topics, vulgar internet celebrity and bottomless confessions of ugliness" in entertainment.

      Good move.

China: Ban on all sissies on TV and internet
    • Broadcasters will now have to "put an end to male sissies and other abnormal aesthetics," the agency overseeing Chinese television said. Channels are now required to avoid promoting "vulgar Internet celebrities" and worshiping wealth and fame. Instead, portrayal of "excellent Chinese traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced culture of socialism" will be encouraged.

Earlier it was reported that the country's authorities are afraid that the appearance of Chinese pop stars, which they have adopted from South Korean and Japanese performers and actors, cannot induce Chinese young people to be more courageous.

      Traditional family, traditional values.

Samsung ISOCELL GN5 sensor with Dual Pixel Pro AF
    • The ISOCELL GN5 is the industry’s first 1.0μm image sensor to integrate Dual Pixel Pro, an all-directional autofocusing technology, that can substantially boost autofocusing capabilities. This technology places two photodiodes, the smallest in the industry, within each 1.0μm pixel of the sensor either horizontally or vertically to recognize pattern changes in all directions. With one million phase-detecting multi-directional photodiodes covering all areas of the sensor, the ISOCELL GN5’s autofocusing becomes instantaneous, enabling sharper images in either bright or low-lit environments.

The image sensor also makes use of Samsung’s proprietary pixel technology, which applies Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) on a Dual Pixel product for the first time in the industry. Despite the microscopic photodiode size, FDTI enables each photodiode to absorb and hold more light information, improving the photodiodes’ full-well capacity (FWC) and decreasing crosstalk within the pixel.

    Samsung ISOCELL HP1 - 200Mp for smartphones
    • image

Samsung Electronics, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today introduced the ISOCELL HP1, the industry’s first 200-megapixel (MP) image sensor with 0.64μm pixels, and ISOCELL GN5, the first image sensor to adopt all-directional focusing Dual Pixel Pro technology with two photodiodes in a single 1.0μm pixel.

“Samsung has been pioneering ultrafine pixel technologies that are taking high-resolution image sensors to the next level,” said Duckhyun Chang, executive vice president of sensor business at Samsung Electronics. “With the ISOCELL HP1 that is breaking barriers and ISOCELL GN5 bringing ultrafast auto focus, Samsung will continue to lead the trend for next-generation mobile imaging technologies.”

For ultimate low-light photography, the ISOCELL HP1 features an all-new ChameleonCell technology, a pixel-binning technology that uses a two-by-two, four-by-four or full pixel layout depending on the environment. In a low-lit environment, the HP1 transforms into a 12.5MP image sensor with large 2.56μm pixels by merging 16 neighboring pixels. The newly formed 2.56μm pixel is capable of more light absorption and sensitivity, producing brighter and clearer photos in in-doors or in the evening. In bright outdoor environments, the sensor’s 200-million pixels can capture ultra-high-definition photography on mobile devices.

      image

The ISOCELL HP1 can take 8K videos at 30 frames-per-second (fps) with minimum loss in the field of view. The HP1 merges four neighboring pixels to bring the resolution down to 50MP or 8,192 x 6,144 to take 8K (7,680 x 4,320) videos without the need to crop or scale down the full image resolution.

    War: Apple crossed the line
    • Apple has asked all of its US employees to share their vaccination status voluntarily. The company recently sent out a memo requesting workers, whether they currently work out of an office or not, to share that information by September 17th. Apple reportedly plans to use the data it collects to inform its ongoing COVID-19 response.

The company told employees it would keep their vaccine status “confidential and secure” by aggregating the information but said that could change in the future.

Not only they are asking information that is none of their business, but they also threaten to sell or make public this information.
