So I thought it may be my sd card (Sandisk 16gb @ 95mb/s), but all of the latest, highest bitrate patches work fine with all of my vintage/manual lenses. The moment I throw on the Lumix lenses, the first recording mode to fail is 720p on all patches. Is this common knowelge and if so, why is that happening?

A real newbie scenario here, and I’m hoping you’ll forgive my naivety.

I’ve hacked my GH2. I did it a few times, I struggled a little as I have a mac, but have a bunch of hacks on the card, and the camera updated. I’m now at the experimentation phase.

I’m using a Sandisk 32gb card/95 mbs

I chose a random few hacks, for no particular reason. And many thanks to the particular authors of the hacks for the hard work.

The hacks I have are :

Driftwood 244m GOP1

Driftwood 132m GOP3_AQ2

Driftwood 176m_GOP1_NOAQ

44m GOP12_AG4

66m_44m_GOP12_AQ2

something by @kae for 1080/24pH GOP3

Now- dumb questions time. Forgive me…

Where are they on the camera ? How do I locate the specific hacks ? Under which menu/location?

Do the hacks now reside in the camera, or on the SD card. i.e. can I scrub the SD card when it is full and will my hacks remain on the camera, or does the SD card always have to have the GH2__V10 file.

I’m primarily interested in upping the bit rate and the quality, seeing how I fare with the GH2, alongside to my larger camcorder (the AGAC 160). Matching the nitrates between the cameras, if I can find the settings, would be ideal.

But seeing what I have hacked, and controlling how I select the variables I’ve installed, is a bit of a mystery.

gh1 + imovie import: differing bitrates

Being new here: first of alle thanks a lot to Vtaly and Lpowell and all other guys and girls helping us squeeze the most of our cams !!!!

I have a new imac + latest imovie version + hacked gh1 + 100Mps Max Latitude Hack + pana gold class 10 card.

If I shoot FHD 1080p25fps and load the movie in quicktime directly from the sd card it tells me I have 108Mbit/s bitrate. If i now import using iMovie and again load the file to quicktime by clicking on the file stored in the imovie library (i.e. not using imovie at all) it tells me i have about 37Mbps. However, I cannot see any difference in quality.

What is the reason for this? Is it an OSX artifact?

I loaded the Lpowel 100Mbps max latitude hack without modification.

Help understanding GOP

Hi, I'm looking for some help in understanding the implications of selecting hacks with different GOP lengths (GH2). I've done some research and I'm beginning to get to grips with what a GOP is and why you would use different lengths of GOP and (kind of) understand what I,B and P frames are.

What I'm not sure about is this: If I need to render to an MPEG 2 with a closed GOP 15 frames long in format IBBP should this influence which hack I should choose to shoot with? Will selecting a hack with a different GOP structure be ok? Do I just specify this particular structure when I render from my NLE? Or is the GOP structure eternally fixed by the hack I choose to use?

Apologies if this has already been covered or if I'm just getting it all wrong! Any help will be much appreciated:-)

NOOB Question about restoring GH2 Original Firmware

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I recently Hacked my GH2 and tried a few different settings but I found that they just weren't reliable enough with the memory card I had, so I wanted to restore the original firmware, and I thought that I did, it seemed pretty intuitive and I noticed that I am no longer able to shoot video above 3200 ISO which I remember from before I hacked so it seemed right away that it had worked but in my movie modes I noticed that HBR is still present! Is this normal??

I've been using my GH2 with the drewnet v6 hack in NTSC output mode for a long time (in PAL land). Now that I've got an extra GF2 (also drewnet v6 installed), I want to combine footage of both the camera's. I'm thinking about using 720 25p on both camera's to do so (unless someone has a better idea). But I'm also in the middle of a bigger 1080 24p project on the GH2. When I change the GH2 from NTSC output to PAL, does this influence the 1080 24p footage in any way?

I know the GH2 hack topic has been discussed extensively on this forum and thanks to @driftwood for the great work, but as a noob I was hoping someone can help break down some of the benefits of the following Hacks that seem to be very popular. I want to get the best quality video and stills possible without compromising stability.

From my research these seem to be some of the most popular hacks out there: TerraQuake, Mysteron, Sedna, Quantum...

My main reason for purchasing the camera is to shoot a music video in the park. Lots of greens and earthy colors during the daytime. Yet I want to create my own versatile Cam for great video and stills while being stable.

Not sure if any of the patches I mention can produce stunning images and video in this setting. Would that same patch be good for shooting low light indoor settings? Also, maybe a silly question but do these hacks work with video and stills?

Simple question actually, the title says it all : which would be the best hack - or is it even necessary - for black&white on gh2? The black&white I have in mind as an ideal (I must repeat this : as an ideal!) is the film noir style, films like "The killers", "Criss Cross", directed by Siodmak...

Any thoughts and/or knowledge would be highly appreciated.

I have 95 mb/s 32gb sandisk memory card. i've tested it and rsult was 45mb/s. i hacked my gh2 with eoshd vanilla hack 44Mbit but after 3 sec recording it stops and camera freezes. can someone help me? should i use different hack or its because of card?

Hi, I have tried several stable hacks, Like flow motion, santiy 5.1/x. It does not span in HBR mode with native m4/3 lens. They all span with 24p mode. But I want one can span in 30p mode. What hack should I use then??

GX7 Hack Question

Trying to drum up interest here. It costs half as much as the GH4, and it uses the same sensor as the GH4, and the 1080p quality is near identical. Maybe even the same processors too.

We know the priority is on the GH3 hacks right now - and the GH4 and GX7 haven't been de-crypted yet.

Hopefully possible to dump the firmware and coding onto the GX7 in the not too distant future? It could potentially be an even cheaper 4K power house!

Another thing interesting is that the mp4 bitrate on 24/25/30p is low compared to the AVCHD (averages 20Mbps vs 28Mbps), but the codec implementation of the mp4 and AVCHD is identical at 50/60P using 28Mbps. Hacking the bitrate higher on the mp4 mode would be ideal too.

Anyway just wanted to put it out there that this little camera is damn amazing and is worth a shot, because it's pretty similar to the GH4 minus a few of the above features.

Flowmotion 2.2 hack problem

I'm having some issues with my GH2 and fast moving water. I created the video below with the GH2 and the flowmotion 2.2. hack. As you can see, everything is OK until the last scene where the 2 guys are fishing. It just gets really pixilated and the water is choppy. I edited the video is sony vegas using the avchd files. I used magic bullet looks and rendered to wmv 11. Any suggestions on how to fix this? The guys fishing look perfectly fine on the camera lcd screen in playback, not sure why it falls apart in post...

Hack does only work for MJPEG but not for AVCHD

Hi guys,

I just started hacking my GH1. I know I am late to the party. Anyway, I tried to apply some patches but its rather strange. For example ticking native 24p/25p works but only for AVCHD, but higher bitrates only for MJPEG. So I want to shoot highbitrate native 24p 1080p footage and tried the Max Latitude and the Reliable 75MBPS patch from LPowell but for both its only working in MJPEG mode. What could I have done wrong?

Hi there. First of all thanks alot for all the work that so many people put into this website/forum. I'm only starting out 2 years or so, but so far this place has been very helpful.

For an upcoming wedding service I'm about to film I really like to get rid of the european 30 min. recording limit. My SD card is the 32GB extreme pro 45MB/s, of which I've read not particular good reviews on for using them for hacking the Gh2.

Is there a way I'd be able to shoot for at least 75 min. on this card (regarding both size and speed)?

Help would be very nice.

I installed the flowmotion and then the driftwood moon hack, but whenever I try to record in the manual mode, which I guess is the mode pros are using, I get the "card is too slow" error and the camera just hangs. I actually had the same error with a 8gb extreme pro and switched to the 32gb one because I thought the 8gb one might be too small.

Would be very nice if somebody could help me out finding a solution. 24p mode works fine though most of the time.

I also tried both cards in two different GH2 models and got the same result (accidently bought two bodys).

edit: Is the 24p mode the one I should be using anyway, or are the hacks turning the manual mode also into shooting 24fps, I am a little confused by that to be honest.

Newbie here trying to figure this out. When a new hack is out like the moon t7, does this work across all movie settings (i.e. cinema mode, hbr) or just specific one? Similarly, will this work when I save as 1080i vs 720p vs JPEG? In other words, all these hacks, do they work the hbr magic at all settings? Some do specify this but other don't. Would appreciate some input and/or pointing me to the right forum/post for this. Thanks

Hey guys, next month, I'll be shooting my Final uni film, and im looking to make my shoot look phenomenal... I have a 'Class 10, 45/mbs sandisk Extreme 32GB card' and I will be shooting it on a (if all goes to plan) Canon 50mm (F/1.4) There's alot of dialogue in the film, and im planning to try roll from one end of the convosation to the other (about 10 minuets in length) (im not sure if this will cause 'spanning' (I think its called) ) Long story short... I'm looking for the best cinematic-looking hack that i can can shoot for 10 minuets without fear of overheating and won't fill up my card like crazy (as I have about a 6 hour shoot, so am looking to be able to carry a fair amount of footage (obvously i won't be shooting for 6 hours straight, but i'll still walk away with a fair bit of footage)

Question about reliable playback hack

I Have owned my GH2 for a good few months now and tried a few different hacks. I was running the 44mb/s vanilla hack and have a few gripes that I was wondering if anyone can help me with. 1st I occasionally get some distortion for a sort period on some shots usually at the start of a clip. 2nd with all the hacks i have tried I always have a playback on the camera problem. I have read if you turn the camera off/on you can playback the file but it doesn't work for me. I have a "ScanDisk 32gb extreme pro 95mb/s"

Now I have tried to look through the many hacks there are on this forum for hours but still can't find an answer to my problem (playback issue) I would like a hack that shoots well in low light and also is good for the occasional 60fps shoot (for slow motion) Would like to be able to get around 45mins of footage on my card.

What camera/ lenses for action

I am a stuntman and free runner looking for a good camera for video and some stills. I have never used a dslr or M43 for any great length of time. I need 1080 p and 60 fps for slow motion. In my price range I'm looking at the Panasonic G6 or the new Nikon D3300. I'm having trouble deciding and was wondering if anyone with the G6 has experience shooting sports video with it. Also what glass would you recommend? Most shots will be during the day in Texas sun. At least one with shallow depth of field for some artistic shots and a wide angle. Should I get the kit on Amazon with the 14-42mm and add from there? I saw some people recommending cannon lenses, cheap but good I think. Which camera do you think would have better video quality in 60 fps? I know that can effect editing with plugins like twixtor.
