Sony FE 50-150mm F2 GM Unveiled – A Zoom Lens with Prime Features

Sony has announced the FE 50-150mm F2 GM, introducing what they’re calling the world’s first telephoto zoom lens with a maximum focal length of 150mm and constant F2 aperture. Set to be available in early June 2025, this new addition to Sony’s G Master series aims to provide filmmakers with a versatile focal range in a single lens package. While Sony is still letting us wait for long-overdue upgrades to their Alpha and Sony Cinema lines of cameras, and shortly after announcing the Sony VENICE Extension System Mini, they just released a new medium-to-telephoto zoom lens, the Sony FE 50-150mm F2 GM. The lens features a 50-150mm focal range (equivalent to 75-225mm on APS-C cameras) with a constant F2 aperture throughout. Weighing 1,340g (47.3 oz) and measuring 102.8 x 200mm, the lens has been designed with internal zoom mechanisms that maintain the same physical length regardless of focal position—a particularly valuable feature for gimbal-based setups.
