SIRUI has just released a firmware update for their Sniper series of APS-C lenses, and more specifically for the FUJIFILM X-Mount version. This firmware will improve lens-to-camera communication, so you’ll get better autofocus and IBIS performances. Let’s take a closer look at it! During IBC 2023, we had the chance to take an exclusive first look at the SIRUI Sniper lenses, which were officially announced a few months later, and we finished a full review of the SIRUI Sniper lenses recently, which you can watch here (video embedded at the end of the article too). At launch, the SIRUI Sniper series consists of three focal lengths – 23mm, 33mm, and 56mm – all with a fast F/1.2 maximum aperture. These lightweight lenses cover APS-C image sensors and are available in Sony E, FUJIFILM X, and Nikon Z Mounts. Also, the Sniper are the first autofocus lenses by SIRUI. My colleague Johnnie had a chance to review the SIRUI Sniper with his trusty FUJIFILM X-H2, and while he mostly had no issues with the pre-production lenses during his tests, there were still a couple of things that could be fine-tuned. However, thanks to the built-in USB-C port on the SIRUI Sniper, a firmware update is an easy thing to do. SIRUI released a firmware update version 1.0.6 for the FUJIFILM X-Mount versions that should significantly improve the lenses’ performance. The SIRUI Sniper 56mm F/1.2.
