Portkeys has now officially released their new flagship 5.5” on-camera monitors, the BM5 IV and BM5 IV WR. Following in the footsteps of their predecessors, they feature a rugged aluminum design, a high-bright display with 2,000 nits, and camera control capabilities, but now come with a wholly redesigned operating system – called CINENORM OS – and even more. While Portkeys’ monitors start out as low as $99 with the HD7H, it’s their flagship BM5 series that has proven to be a great deal over the years, at least in my experience. Indeed, BM5 monitors are a good bang for the buck, offering a great balance between brightness, durability, and price. We already took a first look at the BM5 IV WR at the IBC Show in Amsterdam last month. But now, the company has unveiled all the specs (and pricing) of these fully-featured but still relatively affordable onboard camera control monitors. So, let’s take a look at what’s new!
