Paramount and Skydance are still trying to finalize their merger, and regulators are making sure these companies are in compliance with everything the government wants. Well, under the new Trump administration, the dismantling of DEI is one of his priorities. So it seems like Paramount is trying to comply with that to make sure the merger happens. Trump has instructed the U.S. Attorney General and heads of his agencies to “encourage the private sector to end illegal discrimination and preferences, including DEI.”And this falls under that purview. On Wednesday, Paramount co-CEOs George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy, and Brian Robbins released a memo to employees saying the Trump mandates require “changes in the way the company approaches inclusion moving forward. As a result, some of our policies must change to comply with these new mandates.”This memo was obtained by Variety, which reports that the memo said the company will "no longer set or use aspirational numerical goals related to the race, ethnicity, sex or gender of hires.” The memo continues, “To be the best storytellers and to continue to drive success, we must have a highly talented, dedicated, and creative workforce that reflects the perspectives and experiences of our many different audiences. Values like inclusivity and collaboration are a part of the Paramount culture and will continue to be. ”It's good to hear they still value those things, but it's hard to see them bending over to strip away the guardrails for it.
