The objective is so imposing that our colleague Miguel had all the trouble in the world to hold it in his hand for a memorable photo. In 1980, Nikon responded to a similar lens release by a competitor by launching the Nikkor 1200-1700mm. Development started in May 1989, and after just 10 months, the first prototype was born. The first photos captured with this lens were taken during the season opening game on March 27, 1990 at Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya, marking the beginning of a success story. This exceptional zoom was officially incorporated into Nikon’s catalog in 1994. The Nikkor 1200-1700mm consists of 18 elements divided into 13 groups, including 3 extra-low dispersion (ED) glasses.
