Deconstructing The Ketchup Bottle Twist in 'Goodfellas'

The filmmaking community on Reddit is one of the great gifts to nerds, movie lovers, and everyone else. Today, I was randomly scrolling r/Movies and got the answer to a question I have always had in my life...Why does De Niro's character spin the ketchup bottle between his hands? Don't remember the scene? Well, I absolutely love the movie Goodfellas and think it's one of Martin Scorsese's best works. To remind you, there's a scene in the movie where Henry, Jimmy, and Tommy have a body in their trunk, and they make a pit stop at Tommy's house in the middle of the night. In that scene, De Niro picks up the bottle and puts it between his palms, then spins the bottle to get the ketchup out of it. I always thought that was funny, but never thought of asking why he did it.
